Investigation into Fatal Collision
The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section continues to investigate a fatal collision that occurred yesterday.
At approximately 5:05 p.m., on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, emergency personnel responded to a collision in the west bound lanes of Glenmore Trail S.E., approximately 300 metres west of Deerfoot Trail.
A Dodge Ram truck had been travelling eastbound on Glenmore Trail, when it appeared to lose control. It crossed into the centre median, into the path of a tractor-trailer unit that was in a westbound lane.
The two vehicles collided, rotating the pick-up truck into the right hand westbound lane.
Two children who were seated in the rear of the Dodge Ram were taken to hospital by EMS. A one-year-old boy was pronounced deceased a short time later. A four-year-old boy remains in hospital in stable condition.
The driver of the Dodge Ram was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, and has since been released.
At this time, it is believed that excessive speed for the road conditions was a major factor in this collision.
Alcohol and drugs were not involved.
Anyone who may have witnessed this collision and has not yet spoken to police is asked to call the CPS Traffic Section at 403-567-4000 or Crime Stoppers anonymously using any of the following methods:
