Fatality Collision update 26 St x Oakfield Dr.

On Saturday, September 14, 2013, at approximately 1714 hours, a fatal collision occurred at the intersection of 26 Street and Oakfield Drive S.W.

 

A 2008 Suzuki Boulevard motorcycle, driven by a 44 year old male with a 53 year old female passenger, was westbound on Oakfield Drive S.W. approaching 26 Street S.W. A 2000 Ford Taurus, driven by a 21 year old female, was southbound on 26 Street S.W. The Taurus advanced onto Oakfield Drive against a yield sign and “T-Boned” the motorcycle on its right side. Both occupants of the motorcycle were ejected approximately 15 metres southwest of the area of impact. The motorcycle fell onto its right side and skidded 15 metres southbound. The Taurus continued travelling southbound on 26 Street, mounted the west side sidewalk and collided with a tree 30 metres south of the area of impact. 

 

The driver of the motorcycle sustained serious injuries. The passenger of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Taurus sustained serious injuries.

 

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section is investigating the incident. Alcohol and speed appear to be factors in the collision.
