Fatality Collision - 2600 16 Avenue NW

On Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at approximately 1616 hours, a fatal collision occurred in the 2600 block of 16 Avenue NW.
 
A 2002 Pontiac Aztek, driven by a 36 year old female, was eastbound in the 2600 block of 16 Avenue NW when it lost control, jumped the median and encroached into oncoming traffic. The Aztek collided with a 1985 Ford F150 pick-up truck, driven by a 63 year old male, that was westbound in the median lane of 16 Avenue NW. The F150 was pushed into the curb lane of westbound 16 Avenue NW and was struck from behind by a 2007 GMC Sierra pick-up truck, driven by a 49 year old male. The F150 rolled onto its roof and slid off the north side of the road. The F150 came to rest against a large sign pole 24 meters northwest of the area of impact. The Sierra spun 90° clockwise and exited the north side of the road. The Sierra came to rest 33 meters northwest of the area of impact. The Aztek spun 180° and came to rest on the median at the area of impact
 
The driver of the Aztek sustained minor injuries.
 
The driver of the F150 was pronounced deceased at the scene.
 
The passenger of the F150 sustained minor injuries.
 
The driver of the Sierra was not injured. 
 
The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section is investigating the incident. Speed appears to be factor in the collision. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the collision.
