Fatal Snowmobile Collision

On 2013/01/13 at approx. 0235 hours a snowmobile collision took place in a farmer’s field on the southeastern city limits in the City of Calgary.  A 25 year old male was the operator of the snowmobile and a 21 year old female was a passenger on the 1997 Arctic Cat snowmobile.

 

The snowmobile was traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound across a field when it drove into a large ditch and then again vaulted from the far side of the ditch for a distance of approx. 23.0 meters.  Upon landing the snowmobile was severely damaged and the occupants experienced severe trauma.  The male was pronounced deceased at the scene. The female was transported to the Foothills Trauma Center with serious injuries.

 

It appears that speed and alcohol were factors in this collision.
