Fatal Collision Update

The driver of a vehicle involved in a serious collision last week has succumbed to his injuries.

At approximately 5:15 a.m., on Friday, April 12, 2013, emergency crews responded to a collision on the westbound Memorial Drive exit ramp from northbound Deerfoot Trail S.E.

A 2004 BMW with one occupant was northbound on Deerfoot Trail when the driver lost control, skidded across the road and collided head-on into a concrete embankment.

The 26-year-old male driver of the BMW was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries, but several hours later succumbed to his injuries.

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section is investigating speed and alcohol consumption as possible contributing factors in the collision.

The victim’s next-of-kin have yet to be notified.
