Crime Stoppers Re-enactment – Copper Theft

A Crime Stoppers re-enactment will take place today, Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at 10 a.m., to seek assistance from anyone with information about a copper wire theft that occurred last December.

At 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, culprits used cutting tools to remove a section of temporary TELUS telecommunications cable from the southwest corner of 52 Street and 90 Avenue S.E.

The culprits loaded the cable into a dark-coloured Ford F250 or F350 and fled the scene.

It is believed three offenders were involved in the theft. One of them was wearing a reflective vest.

The theft of copper and other metals can create significant safety issues for the community and first responders, as well as economic impacts when critical infrastructure is targeted.

All affected stakeholders are working together to combat metal theft, including infrastructure-related companies, government, law enforcement and scrap metal dealers.

A media availability will be held at the scene of the re-enactment. S/Sgt. Jason Bobrowich of the CPS Centralized General Investigations Section will be joined by TELUS spokesperson Chris Gerritsen.

The re-enactment will take place at the southwest corner of 52 Street and 90 Avenue S.E. The parking and staging area will be at Western Star Trucks.
