Charges in taxi robberies

The Calgary Police Service can now release the name of the man charged in last week’s taxi robbery.

Evan Thomas TROTCHIE, 20, of Calgary has been charged with one count of robbery and three counts of breach of probation in relation to the incident which occurred in the early morning on Friday, Aug. 21, 2015. The original release can be found on The City of Calgary Newsroom.

Following further investigation by detectives in the CPS Centralized General Investigations Section, TROTCHIE has also been charged in connection to an incident that occurred on Friday, Aug. 14, 2015.

At approximately 1 a.m., on Friday, Aug. 14, 2015, a cab driver picked up a male passenger in the area of 17 Avenue and 47 Street S.E. After driving a short distance, the passenger asked the taxi to pull over in the 2200 block of 47 Street S.E. The man produced a weapon, demanded money and told the cab driver to exit the vehicle. The driver complied, and the man drove off in the cab. No one was injured during this robbery.

Shortly after the incident occurred, police found the unoccupied vehicle in the 5300 block of Hubalta Road S.E. No suspect was located.

In relation to this incident, TROTCHIE is facing additional charges of two counts of breach of probation, robbery, theft under $5,000, theft of a motor vehicle and three Traffic Safety Act offences.

TROTCHIE will next appear in court today, Friday, Aug. 28, 2015.
