Man charged in taxi robbery

The Calgary Police Service has charged one man in relation to a robbery involving a taxi early this morning. 

At approximately 2:30 a.m., on Friday, Aug. 21, 2015, a cab driver picked up a man from a business located near 50 Street and 17 Avenue S.E. The passenger asked to be taken to the intersection of 46 Street and 23 Avenue S.E.

Upon arrival, the passenger produced a knife and demanded money from the cab driver. The cab driver then exited the vehicle and the passenger drove off in the cab. No one was injured during this robbery.

Officers found the cab abandoned at a gas station in the 2100 block of 52 Street S.E. With the assistance of the CPS Canine Unit, the suspect was located a short distance away and was taken into custody without incident. 

A 20-year-old man from Calgary has been charged with one count of robbery and three counts of breach of probation. Due to an ongoing investigation, his name will not be released at this time.
