Charges in Dangerous Driving Incident

The Calgary Police Service has charged a man in relation to a dangerous driving incident that occurred downtown yesterday.

At approximately 9:20 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, an officer attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle in the 5200 block of Coral Shores Dr. N.E. The suspicious vehicle fled southbound and the officer disengaged.

Utilizing ground and air resources, the suspicious vehicle was observed driving the wrong way down busy main roads, running red lights and exceeding speed limits.

Just before 10 p.m. the driver exited the car in attempt to run to another vehicle, at which point he was arrested.

Sheldon David MARCELLUS, 34, has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failing to stop for a peace officer, operating a vehicle while disqualified, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and driving an uninsured motor vehicle.

MARCELLUS will next appear in court on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014.
