Calgary road closures and lane restrictions for September 23, 2013

New road closures and lane restrictions
Southeast
15 Street S.E. between 9 Avenue S.E. to Blackfoot Trail S.E. is closed until 7 p.m. on Monday, September 23 for urgent rail repairs.

17 Avenue S.E. between 17 Street S.E. and 17A Street S.E. will be closed from 10 p.m. on Monday, September 23 to 6 a.m. on Friday, September 27 for urgent rail repairs.

Northbound Macleod Trail will have two left lanes closed between 7 Avenue S.E. and 10 Avenue S.E. from 8 a.m. Saturday, September 28 to 9 p.m. Sunday, September 29, for utility repairs.

The existing various single lane closures will continue on Blackfoot Trail northbound and southbound Blackfoot Trail south of Heritage Drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily Monday to Friday and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays during the month of September, to allow for new roadway construction at the future 85 Avenue S.E. connection to Blackfoot Trail. The 60 km/h speed reduction will remain in effect 24/7 for southbound; however, northbound will be reduced to 50 km/h 24/7 starting at 8 p.m. Monday, September 23 due to the narrowing of the northbound right lane and construction activities adjacent to edge of roadway. More information is available at Blackfoot Trail Bridge rehabilitation project.

Starting at 9 a.m. Monday, September 23, the exit ramp from southbound Barlow Trail to westbound 61 Avenue S.E. will be closed and the speed limit on Barlow Trail reduced to 60 km/h for approximately one week, to allow for gas main upgrades. Traffic affected by the closed ramp will be detoured around the turn island to re-connect with westbound 61 Avenue S.E. with the exception of trucks.  Trucks will be directed to use 66 Avenue S.E., due to a limited turn radius on the provided 61 Avenue S.E. ramp detour. This is the stage two detour and is part of the gas main replacement project at Barlow Trail and 61 Avenue S.E., which will have various stages of construction during the month of September and early October. Updates for this project will be provided as information becomes available.

Southwest
9 Street S.W. at 12 Avenue S.W. will be closed at 9 a.m. on Monday, September 16 for approximately three weeks for utility work. Delays are expected, please use alternate routes.

Ongoing road closures and lane restrictions

Northwest
Northbound Crowchild Trail will have a left turn restriction onto 24 Avenue N.W. daily from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. starting Monday, August 19 and lasting through to the end of November. This is part of a traffic flow pilot and will include a closure of the left turn lanes along northbound Crowchild Trail between 16 Avenue and 24 Avenue.

Northeast
Edmonton Trail between 28 Avenue N.E. and 41 Avenue N.E. will be restricted to the two east lanes, one lane in each direction. The two west lanes are closed for reconstruction for approximately eight to 10 weeks. Access to several roads on the west side of Edmonton Trail is also restricted. Businesses and residents will still have access from the west. The sidewalks along the east side are closed and bus stops will be temporarily re-located. For more details, see the Edmonton Trail Road Reconstruction Project.

24 Street S.E. between 86 Avenue S.E. and Quarry Park Boulevard, will have all traffic shifted to an adjacent detour road on the east side of existing roadway, to allow for utility installations and surface upgrades starting at 5 a.m. Wednesday, August 21. In addition, 85 Avenue S.E. west of Shepard Road will be restricted to local traffic only with commuter traffic detoured to the new 86 Avenue S.E. alignment, that connects to the 24 Street S.E. detour road. This stage of development is expected to last for approximately six to eight weeks at which point an upgraded section of 24 Street S.E. will fully open to traffic. Updates will be supplied as project progresses.

The left turn lane on northbound Seton Way S.E. is closed for construction beginning at 6 a.m., Thursday, August 8 and will continue until Tuesday, December 31 at midnight. Drivers are advised to watch for directional signage.
