Southeast
17 Avenue S.E. between 15 Street and 17A Street S.E. will be closed from 10 p.m. Wednesday, September 18 until 7 p.m. Thursday, September 19 for emergency rail repairs.
Southeast
17 Avenue S.E. between 15 Street and 17A Street S.E. will be closed from 10 p.m. Wednesday, September 18 until 7 p.m. Thursday, September 19 for emergency rail repairs.
15 Street S.E. between 9 Avenue S.E. to Blackfoot Trail S.E. is closed until 7 p.m. on Monday, September 23 for urgent rail repairs.
17 Avenue S.E. between 17 Street S.E. and 17A Street S.E. will be closed from 10 p.m. on Monday, September 23 to 6 a.m. on Friday, September 27 for urgent rail repairs.
Northbound Macleod Trail S.E. north of 25 Avenue S.E. will have various lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3p.m. daily on September 18, 19 and 20 and various lane closures from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 21 for road construction.
The right lane will be closed on westbound 90 Avenue S.E. at 44 Street S.E. from 7 a.m. Monday, September 16 until 7 p.m. Friday, September 20, to allow for utility upgrades.
There will be daily single lane closures on the McKenzie Towne Boulevard traffic circle from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays from Wednesday, September 11 to Saturday, September 21 to allow for roadway construction.
There will be various single lane closures and a speed restriction of 60 km/h on northbound and southbound Blackfoot Trail S.E. south of Heritage Drive S.E. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily Monday to Friday and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays during the month of September. This is to allow for new roadway construction at the future 85 Avenue S.E. connection to Blackfoot Trail. The 60 km/h speed reduction will remain in effect 24/7 due to construction activities close to roadway.
Northbound Blackfoot Trail at the bridge over Glenmore Trail will have multiple lanes closed from 9 p.m. Saturday, September 21 to 8 p.m. Sunday, September 22 to allow for work related to the Blackfoot Trail Bridge rehabilitation project. Alternate routes are recommended as major delays are expected. The Blackfoot bridge will then open to the next detour stage with a new lane marking alignment in the northbound direction. The speed limit on Blackfoot Trail will remain at 50 km/h and the speed limit on Glenmore will remain at 60 km/h for the duration of construction. The exit ramp from westbound Glenmore Trail to southbound Blackfoot Trail will remain closed to accommodate the Blackfoot Trail bridge re-hab. Please note, there will be various stages of construction which will have traffic pattern changes on Blackfoot Trail and lane closures on both Blackfoot Trail and Glenmore Trail for the remainder of 2013 and into the construction season of 2014. Starting at 9 a.m. Monday, September 23, the exit ramp from southbound Barlow Trail to westbound 61 Avenue S.E. will be closed and the speed limit on Barlow Trail reduced to 60 km/h for approximately one week, to allow for gas main upgrades. Traffic affected by the closed ramp will be detoured around the turn island to re-connect with westbound 61 Avenue S.E. with the exception of trucks. Trucks will be directed to use 66 Avenue S.E., due to a limited turn radius on the provided 61 Avenue S.E. ramp detour. This is the stage two detour and is part of the gas main replacement project at Barlow Trail and 61 Avenue S.E., which will have various stages of construction during the month of September and early October. Updates for this project will be provided as information becomes available.
The right lane will be closed on southbound Blackfoot Trail S.E. at 71 Avenue S.E. from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday, September 23 to allow for roadway maintenance. The speed limit will be lowered to 50 km/h during construction.
Southwest
2 Street S.W. between 14 Avenue and 13 Avenue S.W. will be reduced to one lane going southbound from 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, September 20 for concrete work.
26 Street S.W. between Bow Trail S.W. and 14 Avenue S.W. will be closed from 8 a.m. on Saturday, September 21 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 22 for utility work.
Crowchild Trail S.W. from 24 Street S.W. to 26 Avenue S.W. will have a southbound right hand lane closure from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, September 20 for construction to the sound wall. The exit to 17 Avenue S.W. will be maintained during construction.
25 Avenue S.W. between 4 Street S.W. and 5 Street S.W. will be closed from 10 p.m. on Thursday, September 19 until 1 a.m. nightly until Monday, September 23 for the moving of portable schools.
Hillcrest Avenue S.W. between 8 Street S.W. to Earl Grey Crescent S.W. will be closed from 10 p.m. on Thursday, September 19 until 3 a.m. nightly until Monday, September 23 for the moving of portable schools.
17 Avenue S.W. from 33 Street S.W. to east of 35 Street S.W. will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 4 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, September 22 for paving.
11 Street S.W. between 11 Avenue S.W. and 9 Avenue S.W. will be closed from 4 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 21, with detours in place on 10 Avenue S.W. at 10 Street S.W. and 12 Street S.W. preventing through traffic but allowing local traffic. There will also be no right turns onto 11 Street S.W. from 9 Avenue or 11 Avenue S.W. during these times. This closure is to accommodate paving in the area.
11 Street S.W. between 6 Avenue S.W. and 9 Avenue S.W. will be closed from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, with detours in place on 8 Avenue S.W. at 10 Street S.W. preventing through traffic but allowing local traffic. The Kerby Centre access will be provided via the alleyway off 10 Street S.W. There will also be no left turns onto 11 Street S.W. from 6 Avenue or 9 Avenue S.W. during these times. This closure is to accommodate paving in the area.
11 Street S.W. between 5 Avenue S.W. and 6 Avenue S.W. will be closed from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, watch for detour signs. This closure is to accommodate paving in the area.
10 Street S.W. between 11 Avenue S.W. and 12 Avenue S.W. will be closed from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, September 21 for the installation of traffic signals.
The lower deck of the Centre Street Bridge will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting on Tuesday, September 17 and lasting until Saturday, September 21 to accommodate utility repairs.
9 Avenue S.W. at 14 Street S.W. will be reduced to one lane from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, September 18 for bridge construction.
The intersection at 67 Avenue S.W. and 5 Street S.W. will be completely closed from 4 p.m. Friday, September 20 until 3 p.m. Saturday, September 21 for paint the pavement.
4 Street S.W. at 13 Avenue S.W. will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 8 a.m. on Monday, September 16 to 7 p.m. on September 20. Additionally, 13 Avenue S.W. between 4 Street S.W. and 5 Street S.W. will be closed from 8 a.m. on Monday, September 16 to 7 p.m. on September 20. This work is for underground utility construction related to the 13 Avenue Greenway Heritage project.
9 Street S.W. at 12 Avenue S.W. will be closed at 9 a.m. on Monday, September 16 for approximately three weeks for utility work. Delays are expected, please use alternate routes.
14 Avenue S.W. between 1 Street S.W. and 2 Street S.W. will be closed on Tuesday, September 17 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. for crane work.
Northwest
Centre Street North at 15 Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 7 p.m. Friday, September 20 until 8 p.m. Sunday, September 22 for utility work.
Kensington Road N.W. between 14 Street N.W. and 19 Street N.W. will be closed from 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 17 until 6 a.m. Wednesday, September 18 for a house move.
4 Street N.W. between 14 Avenue N.W. and 12 Avenue NW will be closed from 9 a.m. on Friday, September 20 until 6 p.m. Sunday, September 22 for utility work.
Ongoing road closures and lane restrictions
Northwest
Northbound Crowchild Trail will have a left turn restriction onto 24 Avenue N.W. daily from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. starting Monday, August 19 and lasting through to the end of November. This is part of a traffic flow pilot and will include a closure of the left turn lanes along northbound Crowchild Trail between 16 Avenue and 24 Avenue.
Northbound Crowchild Trail will have a left turn restriction onto 24 Avenue N.W. daily from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. starting Monday, August 19 and lasting through to the end of November. This is part of a traffic flow pilot and will include a closure of the left turn lanes along northbound Crowchild Trail between 16 Avenue and 24 Avenue.
Northeast
Edmonton Trail between 28 Avenue N.E. and 41 Avenue N.E. will be restricted to the two east lanes, one lane in each direction. The two west lanes are closed for reconstruction for approximately eight to 10 weeks. Access to several roads on the west side of Edmonton Trail is also restricted. Businesses and residents will still have access from the west. The sidewalks along the east side are closed and bus stops will be temporarily re-located. 36 Street N.E. between 80 Avenue N.E. and Country Hills Boulevard, has opened to single lane of traffic in each direction. For more information, visit 36 Street N.E. Road Reconstruction and Widening.
Southeast
Barlow Trail at 61 Avenue S.E. will have various stages of construction during the month of September to allow for gas main upgrades beginning at 9 a.m., Tuesday, September 3. Drivers are advised to plan alternate routes, such as Deerfoot Trail, because delays are expected. Updates will be provided as timelines for the various stages become available.
24 Street S.E. between 86 Avenue S.E. and Quarry Park Boulevard, will have all traffic shifted to an adjacent detour road on the east side of existing roadway, to allow for utility installations and surface upgrades starting at 5 a.m. Wednesday, August 21. In addition, 85 Avenue S.E. west of Shepard Road will be restricted to local traffic only with commuter traffic detoured to the new 86 Avenue S.E. alignment, that connects to the 24 Street S.E. detour road. This stage of development is expected to last for approximately six to eight weeks at which point an upgraded section of 24 Street S.E. will fully open to traffic. Updates will be supplied as project progresses.
UPDATE: 114 Avenue S.E. between 68 Street S.E. and Stoney Trail will have speed reduced to 50 km/h due to construction activities adjacent to the roadway. Watch for traffic pattern change on Tuesday, September 17 due to a new road opening. This work is being completed for Stoney Trail tie-in work.
The left turn lane on northbound Seton Way S.E. is closed for construction beginning at 6 a.m., Thursday, August 8 and will continue until Tuesday, December 31 at midnight. Drivers are advised to watch for directional signage.
Southwest
The single lane bridge on 9 Avenue S.W. over 14 Street S.W. will be closed beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 15. Traffic will be maintained on the two eastbound lanes on 9 Avenue S.W. over 14 Street S.W. In addition, 14 Street S.W. under the 9 Avenue S.W. bridge will have various lane closures starting at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 15 continuing until the end of September, for the 9 Avenue bridge over 14 Street S.W. rehabilitation.

Alberta Transportation projects
Modular classrooms will be moving by truck down Highway 2 tonight through Sunday for schools and students impacted by the June floods in High River and Calgary. In Calgary, 12 modular classrooms will be moved over the course of three evenings (approximately 8 p.m.) from Highway 2, then along Elbow Drive S.W. to their final destination of Earl Grey School along Hillcrest Avenue S.W. Signs are in place in the Mount Royal neighbourhood regarding ‘temporary no parking’. Please watch for the wide loads and thanks for your patience.
Stoney Trail N.W. between Country Hills Boulevard N.W. and Beddington Trail N.W. will be under construction. Traffic will be impacted as follows:
- There will be various lane closures on the eastbound passing
- The northbound median shoulder of Stoney Trail N.W. has speed is reductions from 100 km/hr to 80 km/hr through work areas
- All travel lanes will be open between the hours of 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., and 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday thru Friday.
- Two lanes of traffic will be maintained during construction work.
- Drivers are advised that construction personnel will be on site and that speed reductions are in place
Stoney Trail at Highway 22X and Stoney Trail at Sun Valley/Chaparral will remain under construction in preparation for the opening of the new interchange from Monday, September 2 to Tuesday, September 17. It is expected that eastbound and westbound traffic on Stoney Trail at Highway 22X and northbound and southbound traffic on Sun Valley Boulevard S.E. and Chaparral Boulevard S.E. will be impacted by construction activities. Deerfoot Trail (Hwy 2) at Memorial Drive eastbound Bridge: Construction update. Please be advised traffic patterns will change on Deerfoot Trail.
On Tuesday, September 17 Deerfoot Trail southbound traffic will be:
- Reduced to two left lanes on Deerfoot from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.
- Reduced to one lane on Deerfoot from 11 p.m. on Tuesday, September 17 to 5 a.m. Wednesday, September 18.
On Wednesday, September 18 Deerfoot Trail northbound traffic will be:
- Reduced to two left lanes on Deerfoot from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.
- Reduced to one lane on Deerfoot from 11 p.m. until midnight on Thursday, September 19.
- Eastbound Memorial Drive to Deerfoot northbound will be closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Thursday, September 19.
Drivers are advised to be on the lookout for construction crews and equipment.
