Special Events
Governer General Presentation – Tuesday, September 17
  • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.: 9 Avenue S.E. between 1 Street S.E. and Macleod Trail S.E. will be reduced to three lanes to accommodate media trucks.
  • 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.: 1 Street S.E. between 9 Avenue S.E. and 7 Avenue S.E. Will be reduced to three lanes.
Inglewood Night Market – 6 p.m. Friday, September 13 to midnight on Saturday, September 14
  • 10 Street S.E. between 9 Avenue S.E. to 10 Avenue S.E. will be closed.
Gumball Classic – 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 14
  • Lake Ontario Drive S.E. will be closed between Lake Crimson Drive S.E. and Lake Sylvan Drive S.E.
McKenzie Lake Community Association Frenzie Parade – 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 14
  • McKenzie Lake Boulevard S.E. will be reduced to one lane in each direction between the north and south leg of McKenzie Lake Way.
  • Delays in this area expected. Police will be onsite to assist with traffic.
Beakerhead: Beaker Night – 8 a.m. Saturday, September 14 to 4 a.m. Sunday, September 15
  • Confluence Way S.E. will be closed between 5 Street S.E. and 6 Street S.E.
 
New road closures and lane restrictions
Southeast
Northbound Macleod Trail S.E north of 25 Avenue S.E will have a single right hand lane closure from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18 for concrete work.
 
Northbound Macleod Trail S.E. north of 25 Avenue S.E. will have a single left hand lane closure from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, September 19 and Friday, September 20 for concrete work.
 
Northbound Macleod Trail S.E. north of 25 Avenue S.E. will be reduced to one lane from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, September 21 for concrete work.
 
44 Street S.E. north of 90 Avenue S.E. will be closed from 7 a.m. Saturday, September 14 to 7 p.m. Sunday, September 15 to allow for utility upgrades. Traffic will be detoured to 40 Street S.E. and 48 Street S.E. to bypass construction. In addition, the right lane will be closed on westbound 90 Avenue S.E. at 44 Street S.E. Local business access will be maintained.
 
The right lane will be closed on westbound 90 Avenue S.E. at 44 Street S.E. from 7 a.m. Monday, September 16 until 7 p.m. Friday, September 20, to allow for utility upgrades.
 
There will be daily single lane closures on the McKenzie Towne Boulevard traffic circle from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday thru Friday and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays from Wednesday, September 11 to Saturday, September 21 to allow for roadway construction.
 
The right lane will be closed on westbound 90 Avenue S.E. at 44 Street S.E. Additionally, 44 Street S.E. north of 90 Avenue S.E. will have traffic shifted to the west side of the roadway into two narrow lanes, starting at 7 a.m. Wednesday, September 11 to 7 a.m. Monday, September 16, to allow for utility upgrades.
 
There will be various single lane closures and a speed restriction of 60 km/h on northbound and southbound Blackfoot Trail S.E. south of Heritage Drive S.E. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily Monday to Friday and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays during the month of September. This is to allow for new roadway construction at the future 85 Avenue S.E. connection to Blackfoot Trail. The 60 km/h speed reduction will remain in effect 24/7 due to construction activities close to roadway.
 
Southwest
Southbound Sarcee Trail S.W. between Glenmore Trail/Highway 8 and Richmond Road S.W. will be closed from 4 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 14. Southbound Traffic will be detoured.
 
Northbound Sarcee Trail between Glenmore Trail S.W. and Richmond Road S.W. will be closed from 4 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, September 15. Traffic will be detoured.
 
4 Street S.W. at 13 Avenue S.W. will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 8 a.m. on Monday, September 16 to 7 p.m. on September 20. Additionally, 13 Avenue S.W. between 4 Street S.W. and 5 Street S.W. will be closed from 8 a.m. on Monday, September 16 to 7 p.m. on September 20. This work is for underground utility construction related to the 13 Avenue Greenway Heritage project.
 
The two right hand lanes on 9 Avenue S.W. at 9 Street S.W. will be closed at 9 a.m. on Monday, September 16 for approximately three weeks for utility work. Delays are expected, please use alternate routes.
 
33 Avenue S.W. between 17 Street and 18 Street will be closed at 7 p.m. Saturday, September 14 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 15 for underground utility installation.
 
6 Street S.W. between 5 Avenue S.W. and 6 Avenue S.W. will be closed from 6 p.m. Friday, September 13 to 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 14 for crane work. Detours will be in place to accommodate traffic.
 
4 Street S.W. between 7 Avenue S.W. and 8 Avenue S.W. will be reduced to two lanes on Saturday, September 14 from 6 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. for crane work.
 
4 Street S.W. between 15 Avenue S.W. and 17 Avenue will be closed from 7 p.m. on Friday, September 13 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, September 15 for utility work.
 
14 Avenue S.W. between 1 Street S.W. and 2 Street S.W. will be closed on Tuesday, September 17 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. for crane work.
 
Northwest
Kensington Road N.W. between 14 Street N.W. and 19 Street N.W. will be closed on Tuesday, September 17 at 8 p.m. until Wednesday, September 18 6 a.m. for a house move.
 
13 Avenue N.W. will be closed at Kingston Street N.W. from 6 p.m. on Friday, September 13 to 5 a.m. on Monday, September 16 for utility work.
 
4 Street N.W. between 14 Avenue N.W. and 12 Avenue NW will be closed from 9 a.m. on Friday, September 20 until 6 p.m. Sunday, September 22 for utility work.
 
Ongoing road closures and lane restrictions
 
Northwest
Symons Valley Road N.W. from 144 Street N.W. to just past the city limit at Range Road 261A will be reduced to one shared lane of traffic, requiring flag personnel to direct traffic until, and a speed reduction to 50 km/h until mid-September for road paving. 
 
Northbound Crowchild Trail will have a left turn restriction onto 24 Avenue N.W. daily from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. starting Monday, August 19 and lasting through to the end of November. This is part of a traffic flow pilot and will include a closure of the left turn lanes along northbound Crowchild Trail between 16 Avenue and 24 Avenue.
 
Northeast
Edmonton Trail between 28 Avenue N.E. and 41 Avenue N.E. will be restricted to the two west lanes, one lane in each direction starting at 6 a.m. on Saturday, July 21. The two east lanes are closed for reconstruction for approximately three months. Access to several roads on the east side of Edmonton Trail is also closed. Businesses and residents will still have access from the east. The sidewalks along the east side are closed and bus stops will be temporarily re-located. 36 Street N.E. will be closed between 80 Avenue N.E. and Country Hills Boulevard, beginning Monday, April 8, between Airport Trail and Country Hills Boulevard for the roadway to be reconstructed from two lanes to four lanes. The closure, which will last approximately four months, will allow Airport Trail connections to be made to 36 Street N.E. eastbound from the Airport Trail tunnel. Motorists are advised to use Métis Trail N.E. as an alternative route. Southeast
Eastbound 61 Avenue S.E. between 30 Street S.E. and Barlow Trail S.E. will be closed at 9 a.m., Monday, September 3 for about one week, for gas main upgrades. Local business traffic only will be allowed to enter eastbound 61 Avenue S.E. with remaining traffic detoured to 72 Avenue S.E. and 66 Avenue S.E. This is the stage one detour and is part of the gas main replacement project at Barlow Trail and 61 Avenue S.E., which will have various stages of construction during the month of September. Updates for this project will be provided as information becomes available.
 
Barlow Trail at 61 Avenue S.E. will have various stages of construction during the month of September to allow for gas main upgrades beginning at 9 a.m., Tuesday, September 3.  Drivers are advised to plan alternate routes, such as Deerfoot Trail, as delays are expected.  Updates will be provided as timelines for the various stages become available.
 
24 Street S.E. between 86 Avenue S.E. and Quarry Park Boulevard, will have all traffic shifted to an adjacent detour road on the east side of existing roadway, to allow for utility installations and surface upgrades starting at 5 a.m. Wednesday, August 21. In addition, 85 Avenue S.E. west of Shepard Road will be restricted to local traffic only with commuter traffic detoured to the new 86 Avenue S.E. alignment, that connects to the 24 Street S.E. detour road. This stage of development is expected to last for approximately six to eight weeks at which point an upgraded section of 24 Street S.E. will fully open to traffic. Updates will be supplied as project progresses.
 
UPDATE: 68 Street S.E. south of 114 Avenue S.E. will be closed from Monday September 9 at 7 a.m. to Tuesday, September 17, at 6 p.m. for construction. Motorists can access the Shepard Landfill via 64 Street S.E. Watch for traffic pattern change on Tuesday, September 17 due to a new road reopening. Southbound 68 Street will be closed at 114 Avenue S.E., motorists can access the Shepard Landfill via 64 Street S.E. 114 Avenue S.E. between 68 Street S.E. and Stoney Trail will have the speed reduced to 50 km/h due to construction activities adjacent to the roadway. This work is being completed for Stoney Trail tie-in work.
 
The left turn lane on northbound Seton Way S.E. is closed for construction beginning at 6 a.m., Thursday, August 8 and will continue until Tuesday, December 31 at midnight. Drivers are advised to watch for directional signage.
 
Southwest
The single lane bridge on 9 Avenue S.W. over 14 Street S.W. will be closed beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 15. Traffic will be maintained on the two eastbound lanes on 9 Avenue S.W. over 14 Street S.W. In addition, 14 Street S.W. under the 9 Avenue S.W. bridge will have various lane closures starting at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 15 continuing until the end of September, for the 9 Avenue bridge over 14 Street S.W. rehabilitation.

Alberta Transportation projects
 
Stoney Trail N.W. between Country Hills Boulevard N.W. and Beddington Trail N.W. will be under construction .  Traffic will be impacted as follows:
  • The northbound median shoulder of Stoney Trail N.W.  has speed is reductions from 100 km/hr to 80 km/hr through work areas
  • All travel lanes will be open between the hours of 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., and 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday thru Friday.
  • Two lanes of traffic will be maintained during construction work.
  • Drivers are advised that construction personnel will be on site and that speed reductions are in place
Stoney Trail at Highway 22X and Stoney Trail at Sun Valley/Chaparral will remain under construction in preparation for the opening of the new interchange from Monday, September 2 to Tuesday, September 17.  It is expected that eastbound and westbound traffic on Stoney Trail at Highway 22X and northbound and southbound traffic on Sun Valley Boulevard S.E. and Chaparral Boulevard S.E. will be impacted by construction activities.  Drivers are advised to expect delays and detours in the area.  Visit www.sestproject.ca for more information.
Deerfoot Trail (Hwy 2) at Memorial Drive EB Bridge will have night time traffic pattern changes on September 11, 12 and 13 for construction crews and aerial equipment working on Deerfoot Trail and the south side of Memorial Drive Bridge.
 
Please be advised a new sign will be installed at Deerfoot Trail and Highway 22X, effective Friday, September 13.
On Friday, September 13 northbound traffic will be:
  • Reduced to two right lanes on Deerfoot Trail from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • The ramp for Memorial Drive eastbound to Deerfoot Trail northbound will be completely closed from 11 p.m. Thursday, September 12 until 5 a.m. Friday, September 13.
  • From 11 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Friday, September 13 traffic on Deerfoot Trail will be reduced to one right lane.
  • From 12:30 a.m. traffic will be reduced to one left lane.
  • The normal traffic pattern will be re-established on Deerfoot Trail northbound and the ramp for Memorial Drive eastbound to Deerfoot Trail northbound at 5 a.m. on Friday, September 13. 
On Tuesday, September 17 Deerfoot Trail southbound traffic will be:
  • Reduced to two left lanes on Deerfoot from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Reduced to one lane on Deerfoot from 11 p.m. on Tuesday, September 17 to 5 a.m. Wednesday, September 18.
On Wednesday, September 18 Deerfoot Trail northbound traffic will be:
  • Reduced to two left lanes on Deerfoot from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Reduced to one lane on Deerfoot from 11 p.m. until midnight on Thursday, September 19.
  • Eastbound Memorial Drive to Deerfoot northbound will be closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Thursday, September 19.
 
Drivers are advised to be on the lookout for construction crews and equipment.
