Calgary road closures and lane restrictions for May 8, 2013

New road closures and lane restrictions
Northwest
The intersection of Shaganappi Trail and John Laurie Boulevard will have a left lane closed in each direction, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily on Thursday, May 9, for construction.
 
Eastbound 16 Avenue N.W. between Bowness Road and Shaganappi Trail will have one left lane closed from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 9 and Friday, May 10, for bridge rehabilitation.
 
14 Street N.W. at 8 Avenue N.W. will be reduced to one lane from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, for construction.
 
Northeast
Southbound 36 Street N.E. at 26 Avenue N.E. will have the left lane closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Friday, May 10, Monday, May 13 and Friday, May 17, for the NE LRT Platform Extension Project.
 
Southeast
Northbound 52 Street S.E. at Peigan Trail the right lane will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily Thursday, May 9 to Friday May 10, to allow for new roadway construction related to the Peigan Trail extension.  52 Street S.E. is already part of a construction zone with a reduced speed limit of 50 km/h that will remain in effect 24/7 due construction activities close to roadway.

1 Street S.E. between 4 Avenue S.E. and 5 Avenue S.E.  will have a right lane closed from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, for construction.

Northbound Macleod Trail N.E. between Park Road and 15 Avenue S.E. will have a right lane closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily on Thursday, May 9 until Friday, May 10, for construction related to Calgary Transit.
 
Motorists heading north on Deerfoot Trail to travel east on Stoney Trail will be re-routed to a different off ramp for eight weeks beginning Thursday, May 9, 2013. The existing eastbound off ramp is being removed so a new ramp can be built in its place as part of the Calgary Ring Road.
 
Southwest
Westbound 10 Avenue S.W. between 19 Street S.W. and Bow Trail will have the right lane closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily between Thursday, May 9 to Friday May 10 to allow for concrete repairs.
 
Southbound Crowchild Trail to eastbound Bow Trail will have the speed limit reduced to 50 km/h and the exit ramp lane narrowed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily Thursday, May 9 to Friday, May 10 to allow for concrete repairs.

Ongoing road closures and lane restrictions
Special Events
Scouts Canada Soap Box Derby
From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, the route of the Scouts Canada Soap Box Derby will be closed to motorists. These closures affect the following roads:
  • Lake Ontario Drive S.E. between Lake Crimson Drive S.E. and Lake Sylvan Drive S.E.
Dashmesh Culture Centre – Annual Sikh Parade
From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, the route of the Dashmesh Cultural Centre – Annual Sikh Parade will have the following lane reductions and road closures:
  • Martindale Boulevard N.E. will be closed between Martindale Gate N.E. and Falconridge Boulevard N.E.
  • Falconridge Boulevard N.E. will be reduced to two lanes on the east side of the road between Taradale Drive N.E./Martindale Boulevard N.E. to 64 Avenue N.E.
  • 64 Avenue N.E. will be reduced to two lanes on the south side of the road between Falconridge Boulevard N.E. and Martindale Gate N.E.
  • Martindale Gate N.E. will be reduced to two lanes on the west side of the road between 64 Avenue N.E. and Martindale Boulevard N.E.
Due to the expected turnout, local residents are advised to plan errands before 11 a.m. or after 3 p.m.
 
Forzani Group Foundation 36th Annual Mother’s Day 5 km and 10 km Road Race
From 6 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Sunday, May 12, the route for the Forzani Group Foundation 36th Annual Mother’s Day Run and Walk will be closed to motorists. The lane closures, which will accommodate runners and pedestrians along the route, are:
  • Macleod Trail will be reduced to two lanes for northbound traffic between Glenmore Trail and Mission Road.
  • Macleod Trail will be reduced to one lane for southbound traffic between Glenmore Trail and Mission Road.
  • Elbow Drive will be reduced to two lanes on the south side between 4 Street S.W. and Lansdowne Avenue S.W.
  • 4 Street S.W. will be closed between 42 Avenue S.W. and 58 Avenue S.W.
  • 58 Avenue S.W. will be closed between 5 Street S.W. and Macleod Trail.
  • Mission Road S.W. will be reduced to one lane, northbound only, between 4 Street S.W. and Macleod Trail.
Delays are expected in this area and motorists are advised to use an alternative route such as, Blackfoot Trail. Due to the expected turnout, residents of the 4 Street area are advised to plan errands before 9 a.m. and after 11 a.m.

Northwest
Westbound 16 Avenue N.W. west of Sarcee Trail, one lane will be closed, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, from Tuesday, April 9 until Wednesday, May 15, for noise wall replacement.
 
Eastbound 2 Avenue N.W. between 10 Street N.W. and 9A Street N.W. will be closed from 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8 until 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, for construction.
 
Northeast
McKnight Boulevard between Centre Street and Greenview Drive will have various lane closures, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily from Wednesday, May 8 until Friday, May 10. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes as delays are expected in this area, for the Centre Street Reconstruction and Transit Priority Project.

Westbound Memorial Drive, west of 28 Street N.E.  the left lane will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, between Monday, May 6 until Friday, May 10, for construction for the NE LRT Platform Extension Project.

36 Street N.E. at 4 Avenue N.E. the southbound to eastbound left turn will be closed, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, for the NE LRT Platform Extension Project.

12 Street N.E. at 45 Avenue N.E. there will be various lane closures from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8 until Friday, May 10, for water main installation.

45 Avenue N.E. between 12 Street N.E. and 11 Street N.E. will be closed from 9 a.m. Monday, April 29 until 6 p.m. approximately Friday, May 10 for utility installation.
 
Southwest
11 avenue S.W. between 1 Street S.W. and 2 Street S.W., will be reduced to one lane, from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, for crane setup.
 
Westbound 6 Avenue S.W. at 11 Street S.W. will have one lane closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily between Wednesday, May 8 until Friday, May 10, for construction.

The northbound right lane on Centre Street between 6 Avenue S.W. and 5 Avenue S.W. is closed until further notice. This is due to emergency utility work.
 
Southeast
1 Street S.E.  between  5 Avenue S.E. and 6 Avenue S.E.  will be reduced to two lanes from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily on Tuesday, May 7 to Thursday, May 9, for construction.
 
1 Street S.E. between 5 Avenue S.E. and 6 Avenue S.E. will have a right lane closed from 6 a.m. on Tuesday, May 7 until 3 p.m. on Thursday May 9 for construction.

Southbound Macleod Trail (1 Street S.E.)  between 4 Avenue S.E. and 5 Avenue S.E. will be reduced to one right lane starting 7 p.m. on Monday, April 26 until 5 a.m. on Friday, May 31, for construction.
 
Southbound Deerfoot Trail speed will be reduced to 50 km/h in the construction zone and motorists may experience delays from April 21 until May 10, for trucks moving materials from Deerfoot Trail S.E. between Highway 22X and Cranston Avenue/Seton Boulevard S.E.

Northbound 3 Street S.E. at 7 Avenue S.E., the right lane will be closed. In addition, the eastside of sidewalk on 3 Street S.E. north of 7 Avenue S.E. will be closed. This will start at 9 a.m. on Monday, April 15 until 6 p.m. on Friday, May 10, for construction.
 
100 Street S.E., between Glenmore Trail and Venture Avenue, will be closed for approximately six weeks starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 2 to allow for water service upgrades and utility connections. Traffic will be directed to 84 Street S.E. to bypass the construction. Local business access will be maintained.
 
 
Long Term road closure and lane restrictions - projects
Northeast
36 Street N.E. will be closed between 80 Avenue N.E. and Country Hills Boulevard, beginning Monday, April 8, between Airport Trail and Country Hills Boulevard for the roadway to be reconstructed from two lanes to four lanes. The closure, which will last approximately four months, will allow Airport Trail connections to be made to 36 Street N.E. eastbound from the Airport Trail tunnel. Motorists are advised to use Métis Trail N.E. as an alternative route. For more information, visit 36 Street N.E. road reconstruction and widening.
 
Lane closures on Centre Street between Laycock Drive and Thorncrest Road will restrict traffic to a single lane in each direction starting at 4 a.m. Monday, April 22, for the Centre Street Reconstruction and Transit Priority project. Southwest
Westbound 13 Avenue S.W. between 1 Street S.W. to 4 Street S.W. will be closed starting at 7 a.m. on Monday, April 29, for approximately two months for the 13 Avenue Heritage Greenway Project.
 
Southeast
68 Street S.E. between 106 Avenue S.E. and 108 Avenue S.E. will have all traffic shifted to an adjacent eastside road, to allow for utility installations and surface upgrades, starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 6. The speed limit of the detour road will be reduced to 30 km/h. This stage of construction is expected to last until mid-May. Updates will be provided as the project progresses.
 
52 Street S.E. at 126 Avenue S.E., one lane will be reduced to one lane in each direction and there will be no left turns at the intersection from 7 a.m. on Friday, May 3 until the end of June, for utility installation.
