Calgary road closures and lane restrictions for May 17, 2013

New road closures and lane restrictions
Northwest
Northbound Crowchild Trail at 5 Avenue N.W. will have the right lane closed, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, for water services repair.
 
14 Street N.W. at 20 Avenue N.W. will be reduced to one lane in each direction, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, for water services repair.
 
Southwest
Eastbound 9 Avenue S. between 14 Street S.W. and 3 Street S.E. will have various lanes closed from 3 p.m. Monday, May 20 to 5 a.m. Tuesday, May 21 for paving preparations. The Calgary Police service will be on site to assist with temporarily closing the side street approaches as crews work through intersections. Alternate routes are recommended as major delays are expected.  This closure will be repeated on Tuesday, May 21 and Wednesday, May 22 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.

Northbound Crowchild Trail to eastbound Bow Trail will have the speed limit reduced to 50 km/h and the exit ramp closed from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, May 19 for paving preparations. Traffic will be directed to use the 17 Avenue S.E. exit as an alternate route.
 
Southbound Crowchild Trail to eastbound Bow Trail will have the speed limit reduced to 50 km/h and the exit ramp closed from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, May 19 for paving preparations. Traffic will be directed to use the 10 Avenue S.E. exit as an alternate route.
 
Eastbound Bow Trail to northbound Crowchild Trail will have the speed limit reduced to 50 km/h and the exit ramp closed from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 19 for paving preparations. Traffic will be detoured to westbound Bow Trail via 16 Street S.W. to connect with northbound Crowchild Trail.
 
Eastbound Bow Trail between Crowchild Trail and 14 Street S.W. will have various lanes closed and the speed limit reduced to 50 km/h from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 19 for paving preparations.  Alternate routes are recommended as major delays are expected.

Spruce Drive between 37 Avenue S.W. and 38 Avenue S.W. will be closed from 7 a.m. on Saturday, May 18 until 12 p.m. on Monday, May 20, for emergency water services repair.
 
Southeast
52 Street S.E. between 86 Avenue S.E. and 90 Avenue S.E. will be closed from 7 a.m. on Friday, May 24 until 5 a.m. on Monday, May 27, for utilities. The speed limit will be reduced to 50 km/h. Delays are expected and motorists are advised to use Barlow Trail as alternative route.
 
90 Avenue S.E. between 52 Street S.E. and 60 Avenue S.E. will be closed from 7 a.m. on Friday, May 24 until 5 a.m. on Monday, May 27, for utilities. The speed limit will be reduced to 50 km/h. Delays are expected and motorists are advised to use Barlow Trail as alternative route.

Special Events
Ahmadiyya Muslin Jama’at
54 Avenue N.E. between 44 Street N.E. and Westwinds Drive N.E. will be closed from the following dates:
  • 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22.
  • 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Friday, May 24.
There will be no parking in this area from Wednesday, May 22 until Tuesday, May 28.
 
The Calgary International Children’s Festival
the following road closures and lane restrictions will apply from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22 until Saturday, May 25.
  • No buses allowed between Macleod Trail and 1 Street S.E.
  • Buses will be loading and unloading children on west side of 1 Street S.E. between 7 Avenue S.E. and 9 Avenue S.E.
  • Southbound of 9 Avenue S.E. from Centre Street to 1 Street S.E. will be unloading children from buses.
Motorists are advised to drive with caution in this area and watch for children.

Northwest
14 Street N.W. between 5 Avenue N.W. and 2 Avenue N.W. will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 9 a.m. on Friday, May 17 until 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, for water service utilities.
 
Eastbound 16 Avenue N.W. at Crowchild Trail will be reduced to one lane from 9 a.m. on Friday, May 17 until 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, for sound wall replacement.

Bowness Road at 16 Avenue N.W. will be reduced to one lane in each direction, from 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15 until 5 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, for bridge repair.

Northeast
Northbound 36 Street N.E. north of 25 Avenue N.E. will have the left lane closed from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, for LRT Extension Project.
 
Eastbound Centre Avenue at 23 Street N.E. will have the left lane closed from 7 a.m. on Saturday, May 18 until 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, for water services repair.

Southbound 36 Street N.E. south of 26 Avenue N.E. will be closed from 8 p.m. on Friday, May 17 until 6 p.m. on Monday, May 20, for the LRT extensions project.  There will be one southbound lane open during the time of 12 a.m. on Saturday, May 18 until 7 a.m. on Monday, May 20.  Delays are expected in this area and motorists are advised to use alternative routes, such as, west on 26 Avenue N.E. to south on 32 Street N.E. or east on 26 Avenue N.E.
 
Southwest
Northbound Crowchild Trail south of 33 Avenue S.W. will have the two right lanes closed, from 9 a.m. on Friday, May 17 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 19 for water services utilities.

8 Avenue S.W. between 5 Street S.W. and 6 Street S.W. will have two way traffic maintained on the south side from 9 a.m. on Friday, May 17 until 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, for water services utilities.

The northbound right lane on Centre Street between 6 Avenue S.W. and 5 Avenue S.W. is closed until further notice. This is due to emergency utility work.
 
 
Southeast
3 Street S.E. between 6 Avenue S.E. and 8 Avenue S.E. will be closed from 6 p.m. on Friday, May 17 to 5 a.m. on Tuesday, May 24, for the LRT Refurbishment Project.

Westbound 90 Avenue S.E. west of 52 Street S.E. will have the right lane closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily from Tuesday, May 21 until Thursday, May 23, for utilities.

Northbound 52 Street S.E. south of 90 Avenue S.E. the right lane will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily from Tuesday, May 21 until Wednesday, May 22, and from 9 a.m. on Thursday, May 23 until 5 p.m. on Monday, May 27, for utilities.

Northbound Macleod Trail between 13 Avenue S.E. and 17 Avenue S.E. will have the right lane closed, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, for Enmax utilities.
 
Northbound Macleod Trail between 17 Avenue S.E. and 25 Avenue S.E. will have the right lane closed from 7 p.m. on Friday, May 18 until 5 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, for road construction.
 
Westbound 90 Avenue S.E. west of 52 Street S.E. will have the right lane closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 16 and also from 9 a.m. on Friday, May 17 until 5 a.m. on Tuesday, May 21, for ATCO Gas utilities.
 
Southbound Macleod Trail will have the left lane closed at 210 Avenue S.E. from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily between Tuesday May 14 until Saturday May 18 to allow for construction related to intersection upgrades.  Macleod Trail is already part of a construction zone with a reduced speed limit of 60 km/h that will remain in effect.
 
Northbound 52 Street S.E. at Peigan Trail will have the right lane closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily starting on Tuesday, May 14 to Saturday May 18, to allow for new roadway construction related to the Peigan Trail extension.  52 Street S.E. is already part of a construction zone with a reduced speed limit of 50 km/h that will remain in effect due to construction activities close to the roadway.
 
Northbound Blackfoot Trail south of Heritage Drive will have the right lane closed and the speed restricted to 60 km/h from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, starting on Tuesday, May 14 until Saturday May 18, to allow for new roadway construction at the future 85 Avenue S.E. connection to Blackfoot Trail. The 60 km/h speed reduction will remain in effect due to construction activities close to the roadway.
 
100 Street S.E., between Glenmore Trail and Venture Avenue, will be closed for approximately six weeks starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 2 to allow for water service upgrades and utility connections. Traffic will be directed to 84 Street S.E. to bypass the construction. Local business access will be maintained.
 
 
Long Term road closure and lane restrictions – projects
Northwest
Eastbound 2 Avenue N.W. between 10 Street N.W. and 9A Street N.W. will be closed from 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8 until 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, for construction.
 
Northeast
36 Street N.E. will be closed between 80 Avenue N.E. and Country Hills Boulevard, beginning Monday, April 8, between Airport Trail and Country Hills Boulevard for the roadway to be reconstructed from two lanes to four lanes. The closure, which will last approximately four months, will allow Airport Trail connections to be made to 36 Street N.E. eastbound from the Airport Trail tunnel. Motorists are advised to use Métis Trail N.E. as an alternative route. For more information, visit 36 Street N.E. road reconstruction and widening.
 
Lane closures on Centre Street between Laycock Drive and Thorncrest Road will restrict traffic to a single lane in each direction starting at 4 a.m. Monday, April 22, for the Centre Street Reconstruction and Transit Priority project. Southwest
Westbound 13 Avenue S.W. between 1 Street S.W. to 4 Street S.W. will be closed starting at 7 a.m. on Monday, April 29, for approximately two months for the 13 Avenue Heritage Greenway Project.
 
Southeast
68 Street S.E. between 106 Avenue S.E. and 108 Avenue S.E. will have all traffic shifted to an adjacent eastside road, to allow for utility installations and surface upgrades, starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 6. The speed limit of the detour road will be reduced to 30 km/h. This stage of construction is expected to last until mid-May. Updates will be provided as the project progresses.
 
52 Street S.E. at 126 Avenue S.E., one lane will be reduced to one lane in each direction and there will be no left turns at the intersection from 7 a.m. on Friday, May 3 until the end of June, for utility installation.
 
Motorists heading north on Deerfoot Trail to travel east on Stoney Trail will be re-routed to a different off ramp for eight weeks beginning Thursday, May 9, 2013. The existing eastbound off ramp is being removed so a new ramp can be built in its place as part of the Calgary Ring Road.
 
11 Avenue S.E. between Maggie Street and 8 Street S.E. will be closed from 7 a.m. on Monday, May 13 until 6 p.m. on Friday, June 7, for construction.
