Calgary road closures and lane restrictions for August 9, 2013

Upcoming Special Events
 
S-Park
10 Street S.W. will be closed between 6 Avenue and 7 Avenue from 6 a.m., Friday August 9, to 9 p.m. Sunday, August 25 for S-Park. Business access between 6 Avenue and alleyways will be maintained on weekdays.
 
Inglewood Night Market
From 1 p.m., Friday, August 9, to 6 a.m., Saturday, August 10:
  • 10 Street S.E. between 9 Avenue and 10 Avenue will have a partial closure of 10 Avenue S.E.
China Town Street Festival
From 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, August 10, there will be the following closures:
  • 2 Avenue S.E. between Center Street S.E. to Riverfront Avenue S.E.
  • 3 Avenue S.E. between Center Street S.E. to 1 Street S.E.

Marda Loop Marda Gras Street Festival
From 5 a.m. to 7 p.m., Sunday, August 11, there will be the following closures:

  • 19 Street S.W. from 32 Avenue S.W. to 34 Avenue S.W.

  • Northbound Sarcee Road S.W.

  • Westbound Glenmore Trail S.W., west of 101 Street S.W.
  • Speed in the lane reduced areas will be reduced to 50 km/h

Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer – Race Leg Two
The second leg of the ride will proceed from Okotoks to Grey Eagle Casino & Bingo in Calgary. From 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday, August 11, there will be various lane restrictions along the following:
  • Eastbound Highway 22X will have a single, right lane closure from 37 Street S.W. to 24 Street S.W. from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday, August 11.
From 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday, August 11, there will be the following lane restrictions:
  • Northbound 37 Street S.W.
  • Northbound Oakfield Drive S.W.
  • Speed in the lane reduced areas will be reduced to 50 km/h
  • Drivers are advised to be aware of cyclists in the curb lanes of these areas
  • Calgary Police Service will be on site to direct traffic
New road closures and lane restrictions for August 9, 2013
 
Northwest 
6 Avenue N.W. at 18 Street N.W. will be reduced to one lane in both directions from 8 a.m. Saturday, August 10 to 6 p.m. Sunday, August 11, for utility work.
 
18 Avenue N.W. at 4 Street N.W. will be reduced to one lane in both directions from 7 a.m. Saturday, August 10 until 6 p.m. Sunday, August 11, for utility work.
 
20 Avenue N.W. will be closed between 1 Street and 2 Street N.W. from 7 a.m. Saturday, August 10 until 6 p.m. Sunday, August 11, for utility work.
 
Northbound Crowchild N.W. at 16 Avenue N.W. will have a right lane closure from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, August 10, for concrete curb replacement.
 
Symons Valley Road N.W. between 144 Street and Range Road 261A will be reduced to one shared lane with flaggers directing traffic from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, August 10 and Sunday, August 11 for paving preparation. Drivers should be prepared for delays.
   
10 Street N.W. between 5 Avenue N.W. and 13 Avenue N.W. will be reduced to one lane in both directions until 6 p.m., Saturday, August 10, for an emergency utility repair.
 
A single, left lane will be closed on Kensington Crescent N.W. resulting in one-way traffic in the westbound lane.  The reason for the closure is due to construction equipment being moved in the left lane.  The closure is from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Monday, August 12.  There is also impact to pedestrians due to a related sidewalk closure.  Vehicular and pedestrian traffic are advised to plan accordingly.
 
Westbound McKnight Boulevard will be reduced to one lane over the Palmer Bridge and just east of Edmonton Trail from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, August 9 for bridge and road construction.
 
Northeast
Country Hills Boulevard N.E. between 14 Street N.E. and Deerfoot Trail will have the left lane closed in both directions for construction.  Closures are as follows:
  • Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., from Monday, August 12 to Friday, September 6
  • Saturdays  and Sundays, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., from Monday, August 12 to Friday, September 6
Northeast LRT Platform Extension Project

Southwest
The load ban on 25 Avenue Bridge S.W. has been lifted as of Saturday, August 3.
 
29 Street S.W. between 23 Avenue S.W. and 25 Avenue S.W. will be closed from 7 p.m., Friday, August 9 to 8 p.m., Sunday, August 11 for construction.
 
Westbound Premier Way at 10 Street S.W. will be closed from 7 a.m., Friday, August 9 to 12 p.m., Saturday, August 10 for construction.
 
8 Avenue S.W. will have three surrounding  intersections closed from Friday, August 9 to Saturday, August 10 for road maintenance, milling and paving.  The closures are as follows:
  • 8 Avenue S.W. at Centre Street South is closed from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.,  Friday, August 9
  • 8 Avenue S.W. at Centre Street South  is closed from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.,  Saturday, August 10
  • 8 Avenue S.W.  at 1 Street S.W. is closed from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.,  Friday August 9
  • 8 Avenue S.W.  at 1 Street S.W. is closed from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.,  Saturday, August 10
  • 8 Avenue S.W.  at 2 Street S.W. is closed from 11 p.m.,  Friday August 9 to 3 p.m., Saturday, August 10
Southeast
The left turn lane on northbound Seton Way S.E. is closed for construction beginning at 6 a.m., Thursday, August 8 and will continue until Tuesday, December 31 at midnight.  Drivers are advised to watch for directional signage.
 
Southbound Macleod Trail S.E. between 162 Avenue S.E. and 194 Avenue S.E. up to Highway 22X, will have various lane closures from 8 a.m., Friday, August 9 to 10 p.m., Sunday, August 11.  Drivers are advised to watch for directional signage.  Work is dependent upon weather conditions.
 
Ogdendale Road S.E. from 61 Avenue S.E. to Ogden Road will have various lane closures for paving from 5 a.m., Saturday, August 10 to 8 p.m., Sunday, August 11.
 
52 Street S.E. between 90 Avenue and 130 Avenue S.E. will be reduce to one lane with a mobile closure, nightly from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting on Sunday, August 11 and lasting until Friday, August 30 for paving. Police will be on scene to direct traffic, speeds will be reduced to 50 km/h and construction will begin southbound and switch to northbound. 
 
Dartmouth roundabout (Dartmouth Road S.E. at 26 Avenue S.E.) will have various lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily on Tuesday, August 13 for road construction.
 
The off-ramp from northbound Deerfoot Trail to Memorial Drive westbound will be closed from 10 a.m. Friday, August 9 until 8 p.m. Sunday, August 11 for a storm water-main repair. Detours will be provided.
 
Ongoing road closures and lane restrictions
Northwest
Westbound 16 Avenue, west of Sarcee Trail N.W., will have one, right lane closed for sound wall construction from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday, August 8 and again from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, August 9.
 
Eastbound Kensington road between 10A Street and 10 Street N.W., will be reduced to one lane for construction, daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., beginning on Thursday, August 8 until Tuesday, August 13.
 
Northeast
Samis Road N.E. between Centre Street North and 1 Street N.E. will be closed from 9 a.m. Monday, July 29 until Saturday, August 17 at 6 p.m., for utility work.
 
McKnight Boulevard N.E. between 19 Street N.E. and 52 Street N.E. will be reduced to one lane nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. from Monday, July 29 until Saturday, August 24, for paving.
 
Edmonton Trail between 28 Avenue N.E. and 41 Avenue N.E. will be restricted to the two west lanes, one lane in each direction starting at 6 a.m. on Saturday, July 21. The two east lanes are closed for reconstruction for approximately three months. Access to several roads on the east side of Edmonton Trail is also closed. Businesses and residents will still have access from the east. The sidewalks along the east side are closed and bus stops will be temporarily re-located. 36 Street N.E. will be closed between 80 Avenue N.E. and Country Hills Boulevard, beginning Monday, April 8, between Airport Trail and Country Hills Boulevard for the roadway to be reconstructed from two lanes to four lanes. The closure, which will last approximately four months, will allow Airport Trail connections to be made to 36 Street N.E. eastbound from the Airport Trail tunnel. Southeast
84 Street S.E. will be closed from 9 Avenue S.E. to 17 Avenue S.E. for the utility installation of a water line from 7 a.m., Thursday, August 8, to 6 p.m., Sunday, August 11. Detour signage will be posted. Residents are advised to use 100 Street, also known as Garden Road, to detour the area.
6 Avenue S.E. at 1 Street S.E. will be reduced to two lanes for utility work daily, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday, August 8 and again from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, August 9.
 
1 Street S.E. will be reduced to two lanes between 5 Avenue S.E. and 6 Avenue S.E. for utility work daily, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday, August 8 and again from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, August 9.
 
5 Avenue S.E. will have one lane closed through rush hour for utility work daily, from 3 p.m., Thursday, August 8, to 8 p.m., Sunday, August 11.
 
1 Street S.E. will have one lane closed through rush hour for utility work daily, from 3 p.m., Thursday, August 8, to 8 p.m., Sunday, August 11.
 
68 Street S.E. between Abercove Drive S.E. to Applewood Drive S.E. will have one lane closed in each direction from7 a.m., Tuesday, August 6 to 6 p.m., Monday, August 12, for water services maintenance.
 
48 Street S.E. north of 90 Avenue will be closed until 3 p.m. on Monday, August 19, for utility work.
 
90 Avenue S.E. between 48 Street S.E. and 52 Street S.E. will have one lane closed in each direction from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily from Monday, July 22 until Friday, July 26. In addition, the lane will be restricted between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Monday, July 29 until Monday, August 19, for utilities.
 
3 Street S.E. between 7 Avenue S.E. and 9 Avenue S.E. will have one lane in both directions closed until the end of September, due to flood damage.
 
15 Street S.E. (Heritage) between Heritage Drive to westbound Glenmore Trail will be closed until approximately Thursday, August 15, for reconstruction of the road due to flood damage.
 
114 Avenue S.E. between 68 Street S.E. to Stoney Trail will have the speed reduced to 50 km/h from 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 16 until the end of September due to construction activities adjacent to the roadway. This work is being completed for the Stoney Trail tie-in work.
 
68 Street S.E. north of 114 Avenue S.E. will be closed for construction from 6 a.m., Friday August 9, to 12 p.m., on Monday August 12.
 
Southwest
22 Street S.W. at 27 Avenue S.W. will be closed for a community event from 12:00 p.m., Thursday August 8, to 1:00 pm on Saturday August 10.
 
The single lane bridge on 9 Avenue S.W. over 14 Street S.W. will be closed beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 15. Traffic will be maintained on the two eastbound lanes on 9 Avenue S.W. over 14 Street S.W. In addition, 14 Street S.W. under the 9 Avenue S.W. bridge will have various lane closures starting at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 15 continuing until the end of September, for the 9 Avenue bridge over 14 Street S.W. rehabilitation.

Alberta Transportation projects
Eastbound Memorial Drive over Deerfoot Trail N.E. will be reduced to the two right lanes from east of St. George’s Drive N.E. Drivers wishing to travel south on Deerfoot Trail from eastbound Memorial Drive will need to use the St. George’s Drive off ramp exit. Drivers wishing to travel northbound on Deerfoot Trail from eastbound Memorial Drive can still access the northbound ramp from the right lane. This traffic pattern is expected to last for four weeks before switching to the left lanes. Traffic speeds have been reduced to ensure the safety of travellers and construction crews. This work is part of Alberta Transportation’s Deerfoot Trail Operation and Maintenance project.
  • On Saturday, August 10 and Sunday, August 11 northbound Deerfoot Trail at Memorial Drive S.E. will be reduced to the two right lanes from 9 p.m. top 11 p.m. at which point traffic will be reduced to one right lane from 1:30 a.m. to 5 a.m. on Sunday morning.

Stoney Trail/Highway 22X will be reduced to one lane in each direction between the Deerfoot Trail interchange and east of the McKenzie/Cranston intersection nightly between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. from Saturday, July 29 to Saturday, August 10 to accommodate bridge work. Lanes will shift throughout construction but one lane will remain open in each direction and speed limits will be reduced to 50 km/h during this night work. This work is a part of Alberta Transportation’s Calgary Provincial Highway project.
  • On Thursday, August 8 at 11 p.m. 52 Street S.E. at Highway 22X between Copperfield Gate S.E. and Auburn Bay Drive S.E./Mahogany Gate S.E. will be closed permanently for the construction of the Southeast Stoney Trail ring road. More information about alternative traffic routes can be found on the Chinook Roads Partnership website.
