Calgary road closures and lane restrictions for August 29, 2013

 

There will be rolling police closures on westbound 8 Avenue S.W. (Stephen Avenue) from 1 Street S.E. to 11 Street S.W. from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, September 1. 

 

The following roads will be closed for the Shaw Charity Classic golf tournament from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m., daily, from Friday, August 30 to Sunday, September 1:

1 Avenue N.E.  at 8 Street N.E. will be closed for construction from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday, September 1.

Beddington Trail N.E. at Beddington Boulevard  N.E. will have alternating lane closures for road inspection from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, August 30.

 

Eastbound Crowchild Trail N.W. at Stoney Trail N.W. will be reduced to one lane for the Tuscany LRT extension project from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, August 30.

 

4 Street N.W. will be closed at 25 Avenue N.W. for water main replacement from 9 a.m., Friday, August 30 to 6 p.m., Sunday, September 1.

 

50 Avenue S.E. from 52 Street S.E. to 47 Street S.E. will have two, westbound lanes closed for utilities work from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday, September 3.

 

Eastbound 61 Avenue S.E. between 30 Street S.E. and Barlow Trail S.E. will be closed at 9 a.m., Monday, September 3 for about one week, for gas main upgrades. Local business traffic only will be allowed to enter eastbound 61 Avenue S.E. with remaining traffic detoured to 72 Avenue S.E. and 66 Avenue S.E. This is the stage one detour and is part of the gas main replacement project at Barlow Trail and 61 Avenue S.E., which will have various stages of construction during the month of September. Eastbound 9 Avenue S.E. at Macleod Trail will have the right lane closed from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, August 31, for road maintenance.

 

Northbound Macleod Trail at 9 Avenue S.E. will have two left lanes closed from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, August 31, for road maintenance.

 

There will be various single lane closures and the speed restricted to 60 km/h on Northbound and southbound Blackfoot Trail south of Heritage Drive.  The closures are as follows:

Due to mechanical difficulties, the scheduled opening of 11 Avenue S.W. between 14 Street S.W. and 18 Street S.W. has been revised to 4 p.m., Thursday, August 29.

 

17 Avenue S.W. between 35 Street S.W. and Sarcee Trail S.W. will have various lane closures for paving from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both Saturday, August 31 and again on Sunday, September 1.

 

33 Street S.W. between 17 Avenue S.W. and 14 Avenue S.W. will be closed for paving from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday, September 2.

 

Spruce Drive S.W. from Bow Trail S.W. to 8 Avenue S.W. will be closed for paving from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday, September 1.

 

Westbound Bow Trail east of Crowchild Trail will have the right lane closed and the speed limit reduced to 50 km/h from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, September 3, for bridge maintenance. Access to the Crowchild Trail exit will be maintained.

 

On Saturday, August 31 City of Calgary crews will begin the Surface Overlay Paving process on 17 Avenue S.W. from 35 Street S.W. to Sarcee Trail S.W. This work will last the entire long weekend, weather permitting, and require several road closures and lane restrictions:

 

Westbound 6 Avenue S.W. will be closed at 8 Street S.W. for LRT track repair from 7 p.m., Friday, August 30 to 5 a.m., Tuesday, September 3. Motorists are urged to use 4 Avenue S.W. as an alternate route.

 

Southbound Elbow Drive S.W. will be closed from 50 Avenue S.W. to 51 Avenue S.W. from 6:30 a.m., Friday, August 30 to 8 p.m., Sunday, September 1, for deep utilities service.

 

Northbound Elbow Drive S.W. will be reduced to one lane from 50 Avenue S.W. to 51 Avenue S.W. from 6:30 a.m., Friday, August 30 to 8 p.m., Sunday, September 1, for deep utilities service.

 

Symons Valley Road N.W. from 144 Street N.W. to just past the city limit at Range Road 261A will be reduced to one shared lane of traffic, requiring flag personnel to direct traffic until, and a speed reduction to 50 km/h until mid-September for road paving.  

 

City crews are currently undergoing the Surface Overlay Paving process at Southbound Stoney Trail N.W. between Beddington Trail N.W. and Country Hills Boulevard N.W. Lane reductions are in place from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., daily, beginning Tuesday, August 27 until Friday, August 30. Drivers are advised to expect delays.

 

Westbound Country Hills Boulevard at Sarcee Trail N.W. will be reduced to one lane for construction from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily, beginning Monday, August 26 to Thursday, August 29.

 

Northbound Crowchild Trail will have a left turn restriction onto 24 Avenue N.W. daily from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. starting Monday, August 19 and lasting through to the end of November. This is part of a traffic flow pilot and will include a closure of the left turn lanes along northbound Crowchild Trail between 16 Avenue and 24 Avenue.

 

Country Hills Boulevard N.E. between 14 Street N.E. and Deerfoot Trail will have the left lane closed in both directions for construction. Closures are as follows:

Edmonton Trail between 28 Avenue N.E. and 41 Avenue N.E. will be restricted to the two west lanes, one lane in each direction starting at 6 a.m. on Saturday, July 21. The two east lanes are closed for reconstruction for approximately three months. Access to several roads on the east side of Edmonton Trail is also closed. Businesses and residents will still have access from the east. The sidewalks along the east side are closed and bus stops will be temporarily re-located. 36 Street N.E. will be closed between 80 Avenue N.E. and Country Hills Boulevard, beginning Monday, April 8, between Airport Trail and Country Hills Boulevard for the roadway to be reconstructed from two lanes to four lanes. The closure, which will last approximately four months, will allow Airport Trail connections to be made to 36 Street N.E. eastbound from the Airport Trail tunnel. Barlow Trail at 61 Avenue S.E. will have various stages of construction during the month of September to allow for gas main upgrades beginning at 9 a.m., Tuesday, September 3.  Drivers are advised to plan alternate routes, such as Deerfoot Trail, as delays are expected.  Updates will be provided as timelines for the various stages become available.

 

50 Avenue S.E. will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 32 Street S.E. to 25 Street S.E. from 6 p.m., Tuesday, August 27 to 6 p.m., Friday, August 30 for utilities construction.

 

1 Street S.E. will have a single, right lane closure between 6 Avenue S.E. and 7 Avenue S.E. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday, August 29 for landscaping.

 

Westbound Sun Valley Boulevard at Midlake Boulevard S.E. will be reduced to one lane from 9 a.m., Monday, August 26 to 8 p.m., Friday, August 30 for utility upgrades. Detour signage will be posted.

 

24 Street S.E. between 86 Avenue S.E. and Quarry Park Boulevard, will have all traffic shifted to an adjacent detour road on the east side of existing roadway, to allow for utility installations and surface upgrades starting at 5 a.m. Wednesday, August 21. In addition, 85 Avenue S.E. west of Shepard Road will be restricted to local traffic only with commuter traffic detoured to the new 86 Avenue S.E. alignment, that connects to the 24 Street S.E. detour road. This stage of development is expected to last for approximately six to eight weeks at which point an upgraded section of 24 Street S.E. will fully open to traffic. Updates will be supplied as project progresses.

 

52 Street S.E. between Glenmore Trail and 130 Avenue S.E. will be reduced to one lane with a mobile closure, nightly from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday, August 28 for paving. Police will be on scene to direct traffic, speeds will be reduced to 50 km/h and construction will begin southbound and switch to northbound as work progresses.

 

114 Avenue S.E. between 68 Street S.E. and Stoney Trail will have the speed reduced to 50 km/h from 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 16 until the end of September due to construction activities adjacent to the roadway. This work is being completed for Stoney Trail tie-in work.

 

The left turn lane on northbound Seton Way S.E. is closed for construction beginning at 6 a.m., Thursday, August 8 and will continue until Tuesday, December 31 at midnight. Drivers are advised to watch for directional signage.

 

Spruce Meadows Trail (Hwy 22x) at Sheriff King Street S.W. and 6 Street S.W. will have various lane closures and speed reductions to 50 km/h from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily Monday, August 26 to Saturday, August 31 for paving. Calgary Police service will be on site to assist with traffic control. Alternate routes are recommended as delays are expected.

 

The single lane bridge on 9 Avenue S.W. over 14 Street S.W. will be closed beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 15. Traffic will be maintained on the two eastbound lanes on 9 Avenue S.W. over 14 Street S.W. In addition, 14 Street S.W. under the 9 Avenue S.W. bridge will have various lane closures starting at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 15 continuing until the end of September, for the 9 Avenue bridge over 14 Street S.W. rehabilitation.

Southbound Stoney Trail between the Scenic Acres Link interchange N.W. and the Trans Canada Highway/Highway 1 will have various lane reductions and closures from 10 p.m., Thursday, August 29 to 5 a.m., Friday, August 30 as follows:

Stoney Trail N.W. between Country Hills Boulevard N.W. and Beddington Trail N.W. will be under construction .  Traffic will be impacted as follows:

Stoney Trail at Highway 22X and Stoney Trail at Sun Valley/Chaparral will remain under construction in preparation for the opening of the new interchange from Monday, September 2 to  Tuesday, September 17.  It is expected that eastbound and westbound traffic on Stoney Trail at Highway 22X and northbound and southbound traffic on Sun Valley Boulevard S.E. and Chaparral Boulevard S.E. will be impacted by construction activities.  Drivers are advised to expect delays and detours in the area.  Visit www.sestproject.ca for more information.
