Calgary road closures and lane restrictions for August 23, 2013

Upcoming Special Events
 
Shaw Charity Classic
The following roads will be closed to the public for the Shaw Charity Classic golf tournament from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m., daily, beginning  Friday, August 30,  and including Saturday, August 31 and Sunday, September 1, over the Labour Day long weekend:
  • 14 Street S.W. will be closed from Anderson Road S.W. to the intersection of Canyon Meadows Drive S.W. and Elbow Drive S.W.
  • Access for residents of the affected area will be maintained
  • Digital message signs will be posted in the area with detour information
  • Participants in the event are urged to take public transit and/or the shuttle will pick up at the Anderson C-Train Station and at Mount Royal University
  • Drivers are advised that there will be no parking in the residential areas permitted; there is no public parking on the event site
  • Calgary Police Service will be on site to direct traffic
Party for the Parks
Westbound 8 Avenue S.W. will be closed between 5 Street and 6 Street from 3 p.m. until 11 p.m.onSaturday August 24, for a fundraiser event at Chicago Chophouse.
 
GlobalFest 2013
The following road closures will be in effect on August 16, 18, 20, 22 and 25:
  • 17 Avenue S.E. will be closed between 52 Street S.E. and 68 Street S.E. will be closed to all traffic from approximately 8 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. each evening.
  • 23 Avenue S.E. will be closed from 52 Street S.E. to 60 Street S.E. and 60 Street S.E. will be closed from 17 Avenue S.E. to 23 Avenue S.E. from 6 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. each evening.
  • Hubalta Road/21A Avenue will be closed from 52 Street S.E. to 17 Avenue S.E. from 6:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. each evening to accommodate parking.
  • Access for businesses located along 17 Avenue S.E between 52 Street S.E. and Hubalta Road S.E. will be available via 52 Street S.E. and 21A Avenue S.E with a valid permit.
  • Access for business located along 23 Avenue S.E. between 52 Street and 60 Street S.E. and 60 Street S.E. between 17 Avenue and 23 Avenue S.E. will be available via 52 Street S.E. and 23 Avenue S.E. with a valid permit.
Motorists will be directed to Memorial Drive via 68 Street S.E. (for westbound traffic) and 52 Street S.E. (for eastbound traffic) to bypass the closure. Signs will be posted to help direct traffic around the area. Access to the communities located in the event area will be by permit only. Calgary Opera Summer Festival (Opera in the village)
Confluence Way S.E. will be closed from Riverfront Avenue S.E. to 6 Avenue S.E. at the following times:
  • Thursday, August 22 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Friday, August 23 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Saturday, August 24 from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Sunday, August 25 from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m.
S-Park
10 Street S.W. will be closed between 6 Avenue and 7 Avenue from 6 a.m., Friday August 9, to 9 p.m. Sunday, August 25 for S-Park. Business access between 6 Avenue and alleyways will be maintained on weekdays.
 
New road closures and lane restrictions for Friday, August 23
Northeast
Westbound 16 Avenue N.E. at Edmonton Trail N.E. will be reduced to one lane for utility work from 7 p.m., Saturday, August 24 to 4 p.m., Sunday, August 25.  Calgary Police Service will be on site to direct traffic at the intersection.  Drivers are advised to expect major delays and to plan alternate routes.
 
McKnight Boulevard N.E. at Edmonton Trail N.E. will be reduced to one lane in each direction for bridge rehabilitation from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, August 24.
 
9 Avenue S.E. at 4 Street S.E. will be reduced to one lane for construction from 7 a.m., Saturday, August 24 to 12 p.m., Sunday, August 25.
 
Centre Street South between 5 Avenue S.E. and 6 Avenue S.E. will be closed for constructions from 7 a.m., Saturday, August 24 to 8 p.m., Sunday, August 25.
 
Eastbound Memorial Drive N.W. at 19 Street N.W. will be reduced to one lane for construction from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday, August 26.
 
Eastbound Crowchild Trail N.W. at Stoney Trail N.W. will be reduced to one lane for construction on the northwest LRT extension from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday, August 26.
 
Sarcee Trail N.W. at Citadel Boulevard N.W. will be reduced to one lane for utility work from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday, August 26.
 
Southeast
Cancelled: Beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, August 26, the left lanes of Macleod Trail in both directions, and the northbound turning lane, at 60 Avenue S.E. will be closed to accommodate repairs to a broken sanitary main. This work is scheduled to continue through until Wednesday afternoon. Major delays are expected, and commuters are encouraged to consider alternate routes. North/south alternatives include Blackfoot Trail and Elbow Drive.
 
Westbound Sun Valley Boulevard at Midlake Boulevard S.E. will be reduced to one lane from 9 a.m., Monday, August 26 to 8 p.m., Friday, August 30 for utility upgrades. Detour signage will be posted.
The left lane will be closed on westbound Glenmore Trail S.E., east of Ogden Road from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, August 25 for road maintenance. Drivers are advised to be on the lookout for workers. Speed will be reduced to 50 km/h along this stretch.
 
Southwest
Spruce Meadows Trail (Hwy 22x) at Sheriff King Street S.W. and 6 Street S.W. will have various lane closures and speed reductions to 50 km/h from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily Monday, August 26 to Saturday, August 31 for paving. Calgary Police service will be on site to assist with traffic control. Alternate routes are recommended as delays are expected.
 
Ongoing road closures and lane restrictions
Northwest
Northbound Crowchild Trail will have a left turn restriction onto 24 Avenue N.W. daily from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. starting Monday, August 19 and lasting through to the end of November. This is part of a traffic flow pilot and will include a closure of the left turn lanes along northbound Crowchild Trail between 16 Avenue and 24 Avenue.

Northeast
12 Avenue N.E. between Edmonton Trail and 2 Street N.E. will be closed for a new utilities installation from 9 a.m., Friday, August 23 to 5 p.m., Saturday, August 24.

Country Hills Boulevard N.E. between 14 Street N.E. and Deerfoot Trail will have the left lane closed in both directions for construction. Closures are as follows:
  • Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., from Monday, August 12 to Friday, September 6
  • Saturdays and Sundays, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., from Monday, August 12 to Friday, September 6
 
McKnight Boulevard N.E. between 19 Street N.E. and 52 Street N.E. will be reduced to one lane nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. from Monday, July 29 until Saturday, August 24, for paving.
 
Edmonton Trail between 28 Avenue N.E. and 41 Avenue N.E. will be restricted to the two west lanes, one lane in each direction starting at 6 a.m. on Saturday, July 21. The two east lanes are closed for reconstruction for approximately three months. Access to several roads on the east side of Edmonton Trail is also closed. Businesses and residents will still have access from the east. The sidewalks along the east side are closed and bus stops will be temporarily re-located. 36 Street N.E. will be closed between 80 Avenue N.E. and Country Hills Boulevard, beginning Monday, April 8, between Airport Trail and Country Hills Boulevard for the roadway to be reconstructed from two lanes to four lanes. The closure, which will last approximately four months, will allow Airport Trail connections to be made to 36 Street N.E. eastbound from the Airport Trail tunnel. Southeast
A single, southbound right lane on 1 Street S.E. between 6 Avenue S.E. and 7 Avenue S.E. will be closed for landscaping from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, August 24.

Industry Way S.E. between Innovation Avenue and Venture Avenue S.E., will be closed from 6 a.m. Thursday, August 22 to 12 p.m. Saturday, August 24 to allow for new utility installations. Northbound traffic will be detoured to Enterprise Way and southbound traffic will be detoured to Technology Way to bypass the construction. Local business access will be maintained.
 
24 Street S.E. between 86 Avenue S.E. and Quarry Park Boulevard, will have all traffic shifted to an adjacent detour road on the east side of existing roadway, to allow for utility installations and surface upgrades starting at 5 a.m. Wednesday, August 21. In addition, 85 Avenue S.E. west of Shepard Road will be restricted to local traffic only with commuter traffic detoured to the new 86 Avenue S.E. alignment, that connects to the 24 Street S.E. detour road. This stage of development is expected to last for approximately six to eight weeks at which point an upgraded section of 24 Street S.E. will fully open to traffic. Updates will be supplied as project progresses.
 
Memorial Drive west of 52 Street S.E. will have left lanes closed in both directions for utilities work from 7 a.m., Monday, August 19, to 6 p.m., Sunday, August 25.
 
52 Street S.E. between Glenmore Trail and 130 Avenue S.E. will be reduced to one lane with a mobile closure, nightly from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday, August 30 for paving. Police will be on scene to direct traffic, speeds will be reduced to 50 km/h and construction will begin southbound and switch to northbound as work progresses.
 
114 Avenue S.E. between 68 Street S.E. and Stoney Trail will have the speed reduced to 50 km/h from 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 16 until the end of September due to construction activities adjacent to the roadway. This work is being completed for Stoney Trail tie-in work.
 
The left turn lane on northbound Seton Way S.E. is closed for construction beginning at 6 a.m., Thursday, August 8 and will continue until Tuesday, December 31 at midnight. Drivers are advised to watch for directional signage.
 
Southwest
6 Avenue S.W. between 1 Street S.W. and 2 Street S.W. will have the three, westbound right lanes closed for water services from 7 a.m., Saturday, August 24 to 8 p.m., Sunday, August 25.
 
26 Street S.W. between Bow Trail and 6 Avenue S.W. will be closed for utility construction from 6 a.m., Saturday, August 24 to 7 p.m., Sunday, August 25.
 
Southbound Centre Street S, south of 5 Avenue S.W. will have a nightly right lane and east sidewalk closure from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. until Saturday, August 24 to accommodate building renovations. The area bus stop will be relocated just north of the construction.
 
The single lane bridge on 9 Avenue S.W. over 14 Street S.W. will be closed beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 15. Traffic will be maintained on the two eastbound lanes on 9 Avenue S.W. over 14 Street S.W. In addition, 14 Street S.W. under the 9 Avenue S.W. bridge will have various lane closures starting at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 15 continuing until the end of September, for the 9 Avenue bridge over 14 Street S.W. rehabilitation.

Alberta Transportation projects
Eastbound Memorial Drive over Deerfoot Trail N.E. will be reduced to the two right lanes from east of St. George’s Drive N.E. Drivers wishing to travel south on Deerfoot Trail from eastbound Memorial Drive will need to use the St. George’s Drive off ramp exit. This work is part of Alberta Transportation’s Deerfoot Trail Operation and Maintenance project.
  • Complete closure of eastbound Memorial Drive over Deerfoot Trail from 10 p.m. Friday, August 23, until 7 a.m. Saturday, August 24. Eastbound traffic on Memorial Drive will be rerouted onto southbound Deerfoot Trail to Blackfoot Trail/17 Avenue S.E. from there traffic can continue eastbound or exit to northbound Deerfoot and exit onto eastbound Memorial Drive. 
  • At 7 a.m. Saturday, August 24 the two right lanes on the bridge will be open to traffic with the speed reduced to 30 km/h until 7 a.m. Sunday, August 25.
  • The traffic pattern will return to the current construction pattern after Sunday morning.
