Calgary road closures and lane restrictions for August 14, 2013

Emergency closure
Northbound and southbound Elbow Drive S.W. between Anderson Road and Southampton Drive will be completely closed due to a fire incident. Traffic is being redirected to 14 Street S.W. or Macleod Trail S.E. Drivers should consider using alternative routes.
Upcoming Special Events
GlobalFest 2013
The following road closures will be in effect on August 16, 18, 20, 22 and 25:
  • 17 Avenue S.E. will be closed between 52 Street S.E. and 68 Street S.E. will be closed to all traffic from approximately 8 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. each evening.
  • 23 Avenue S.E. will be closed from 52 Street S.E. to 60 Street S.E. and 60 Street S.E. will be closed from 17 Avenue S.E. to 23 Avenue S.E. from 6 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. each evening.
  • Hubalta Road/21A Avenue will be closed from 52 Street S.E. to 17 Avenue S.E. from 6:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. each evening to accommodate parking.
  • Access for businesses located along 17 Avenue S.E between 52 Street S.E. and Hubalta Road S.E. will be available via 52 Street S.E. and 21A Avenue S.E with a valid permit.
  • Access for business located along 23 Avenue S.E. between 52 Street and 60 Street S.E. and 60 Street S.E. between 17 Avenue and 23 Avenue S.E. will be available via 52 Street S.E. and 23 Avenue S.E. with a valid permit.
Motorists will be directed to Memorial Drive via 68 Street S.E. (for westbound traffic) and 52 Street S.E. (for eastbound traffic) to bypass the closure. Signs will be posted to help direct traffic around the area. Access to the communities located in the event area will be by permit only. Confluence Way S.E. will be closed from Riverfront Avenue S.E. to 6 Avenue S.E. at the following times:
  • Thursday, August 22 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Friday, August 23 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Saturday, August 24 from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Sunday, August 25 from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m.
 
S-Park
10 Street S.W. will be closed between 6 Avenue and 7 Avenue from 6 a.m., Friday August 9, to 9 p.m. Sunday, August 25 for S-Park. Business access between 6 Avenue and alleyways will be maintained on weekdays.
 
New road closures and lane restrictions for August 14, 2013
Northwest 
Southbound Shaganappi Trail at Dalhousie Drive will be reduced to one lane from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14 and Thursday, August 15 for curb concrete work.
 
John Laurie Boulevard between 19 Street N.W. and Shaganappi Trail will be reduced to one, westbound lane due to construction, from 9 p.m., Thursday, August 15 to 5 a.m., Friday, August 16.

Northeast
Country Hills Boulevard N.E. between 14 Street N.E. and Deerfoot Trail will have the left lane closed in both directions for construction. Closures are as follows:
  • Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., from Monday, August 12 to Friday, September 6
  • Saturdays and Sundays, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., from Monday, August 12 to Friday, September 6
 
Southeast
Dartmouth roundabout (Dartmouth Road S.E. at 26 Avenue S.E.) will have various lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily on Tuesday, August 13, Wednesday, August 14 and Thursday, August 15 for paving preparation.
 
Dartmouth roundabout will be closed for paving with traffic detoured to Blackfoot Trail from 7 p.m., Friday, August 16 to 7 p.m., Sunday, August 18.
 
52 Street S.E. between Glenmore Trail and 130 Avenue S.E. will be reduced to one lane with a mobile closure, nightly from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. until Friday, August 30 for paving. Police will be on scene to direct traffic, speeds will be reduced to 50 km/h and construction will begin southbound and switch to northbound as work progresses.
 
5 Avenue South at Centre Street will be reduced to one, eastbound lane due to construction between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m., Sunday, August 18.
 
6 Avenue South between 1 Street S.E. and Centre Street will be reduced to one lane, due to construction, from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, August 17.
 
Southwest
Elbow Drive between 50 Avenue S.W. and 51 Avenue S.W. will be reduced to a single lane in each direction for utilities work, from 6 a.m., Saturday, August 17, to 8 p.m., Sunday, August 18.
 
Elbow Drive between 48 Street S.W. and 49 Street S.W. will be reduced to a single northbound lane for utilities work, from 6 a.m., Saturday, August 17, to 8 p.m., Sunday, August 18.
 
14 Street S.W. between 9 Avenue S.W. and 10 Avenue S.W. will be closed for bridge construction from 9 p.m., Friday, August 16 to 9 a.m., Saturday, August 17.

5 Street S.W. between 8 Avenue and 9 Avenue will have three left lanes closed as well as two left lanes and a sidewalk closure on 9 Avenue S.W. between 4 Street and 5 Street beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, August 16 and lasting until 5 a.m. Monday, August 19 for the removal of a tour crane from8 Avenue Place.
 
Ongoing road closures and lane restrictions
Northeast
Samis Road N.E. between Centre Street North and 1 Street N.E. will be closed from 9 a.m. Monday, July 29 until Saturday, August 17 at 6 p.m., for utility work.
 
McKnight Boulevard N.E. between 19 Street N.E. and 52 Street N.E. will be reduced to one lane nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. from Monday, July 29 until Saturday, August 24, for paving.
 
Edmonton Trail between 28 Avenue N.E. and 41 Avenue N.E. will be restricted to the two west lanes, one lane in each direction starting at 6 a.m. on Saturday, July 21. The two east lanes are closed for reconstruction for approximately three months. Access to several roads on the east side of Edmonton Trail is also closed. Businesses and residents will still have access from the east. The sidewalks along the east side are closed and bus stops will be temporarily re-located. 36 Street N.E. will be closed between 80 Avenue N.E. and Country Hills Boulevard, beginning Monday, April 8, between Airport Trail and Country Hills Boulevard for the roadway to be reconstructed from two lanes to four lanes. The closure, which will last approximately four months, will allow Airport Trail connections to be made to 36 Street N.E. eastbound from the Airport Trail tunnel. Southeast
48 Street S.E. north of 90 Avenue will be closed until 3 p.m. on Monday, August 19, for utility work.
 
90 Avenue S.E. between 48 Street S.E. and 52 Street S.E. will have one lane closed in each direction from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily from Monday, July 22 until Friday, July 26. In addition, the lane will be restricted between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Monday, July 29 until Monday, August 19, for utilities.
 
3 Street S.E. between 7 Avenue S.E. and 9 Avenue S.E. will have one lane in both directions closed until the end of September, due to flood damage.
 
15 Street S.E. (Heritage) between Heritage Drive and westbound Glenmore Trail will be closed until approximately Thursday, August 15, for reconstruction of the road due to flood damage.
 
114 Avenue S.E. between 68 Street S.E. and Stoney Trail will have the speed reduced to 50 km/h from 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 16 until the end of September due to construction activities adjacent to the roadway. This work is being completed for Stoney Trail tie-in work.
 
The left turn lane on northbound Seton Way S.E. is closed for construction beginning at 6 a.m., Thursday, August 8 and will continue until Tuesday, December 31 at midnight. Drivers are advised to watch for directional signage.
 
Southwest
The single lane bridge on 9 Avenue S.W. over 14 Street S.W. will be closed beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 15. Traffic will be maintained on the two eastbound lanes on 9 Avenue S.W. over 14 Street S.W. In addition, 14 Street S.W. under the 9 Avenue S.W. bridge will have various lane closures starting at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 15 continuing until the end of September, for the 9 Avenue bridge over 14 Street S.W. rehabilitation.

Alberta Transportation projects
Eastbound Memorial Drive over Deerfoot Trail N.E. will be reduced to the two right lanes from east of St. George’s Drive N.E. Drivers wishing to travel south on Deerfoot Trail from eastbound Memorial Drive will need to use the St. George’s Drive off ramp exit. Drivers wishing to travel northbound on Deerfoot Trail from eastbound Memorial Drive can still access the northbound ramp from the right lane. This traffic pattern is expected to last for four weeks before switching to the left lanes. Traffic speeds have been reduced to ensure the safety of travellers and construction crews. This work is part of Alberta Transportation’s Deerfoot Trail Operation and Maintenance project.

Stoney Trail/Highway 22X will be reduced to one lane in each direction between the Deerfoot Trail interchange and east of the McKenzie/Cranston intersection nightly between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. from Saturday, July 29 to Saturday, August 10 to accommodate bridge work. Lanes will shift throughout construction but one lane will remain open in each direction and speed limits will be reduced to 50 km/h during this night work. This work is a part of Alberta Transportation’s Calgary Provincial Highway project.
  • On Thursday, August 8 at 11 p.m. 52 Street S.E. at Highway 22X between Copperfield Gate S.E. and Auburn Bay Drive S.E./Mahogany Gate S.E. will be closed permanently for the construction of the Southeast Stoney Trail ring road.
