Calgary road closures and lane restrictions for August 02, 2013
Upcoming Special Events
Inglewood Sunfest - Saturday, August 3, 11 a.m.to 5 p.m.
- 9 Avenue S.E. will be closed between 11 Street S.E. and 14 Street S.E.
- 12 Street S.E. will be closed between 8 Avenue and 10 Avenue S.E.
- 13 Street S.E. will be closed between 8 Avenue and 10 Avenue S.E.
Bowness Street Festival and Tour de Bowness – Monday, August 5, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Bowness Road will be closed from 62 Street N.W. to 66 Street N.W.
- 63 Street N.W. will be closed from Bowness Road to Bowwood Drive N.W.
- 64 Street N.W. will be close from Bowness Road to Bowwood Drive N.W.

- 36 Avenue N.W. will be closed from Bow Anne Road to Bowwood Drive N.W.

New road closures and lane restrictions for August 02, 2013
Southeast
The new 52 Street S.E. overpass over Stoney Trail/Highway 22X opens to traffic Sunday, August 4as part of Calgary’s southeast ring road construction.
For the next three weeks, beginning Sunday, August 4, traffic will be impacted as follows:
Northbound and southbound access:
- Motorists travelling south on 52 Street S.E. to Stoney Trail/ Highway 22X – take the new overpass over the ring road and then turn right to access the new temporary intersection on Stoney Trail/Highway 22X.
- Motorists travelling north on 52 Street S.E. to Stoney Trail/Highway 22X – take the detour to the west side of 52 Street at the Auburn Bay Drive S.E./Mahogany Gate S.E. intersection and then turn left to access the new temporary intersection at Stoney Trail/Highway 22X.
Westbound and eastbound access:
- Motorists heading west on Stoney Trail/Highway 22X onto 52 Street S.E. – take the detour to the new westbound lanes of Stoney Trail/Highway 22X. Make a left turn at the new temporary intersection to access northbound and southbound 52 Street S.E.
- Motorists heading east on Stoney Trail/Highway 22X to 52 Street S.E. – take the detour to the new westbound lanes of Stoney Trail and then make a right turn to access northbound and southbound 52 Street S.E.
A new bridge carrying 17 Avenue S.E. over Stoney Trail will be partially open Friday, August 2. The existing detour will be modified to allow for the completion of this interchange. From Friday, August 2until Wednesday, August 14,traffic will be impacted as follows:
Northbound and southbound:
- Southbound traffic on Stoney Trail to 17 Avenue S.E. will head east on 16 Avenue N.E. and south on 100th Street. A secondary detour is also available at Peigan Trail.
Westbound and eastbound access:
- Westbound traffic on 17 Avenue S.E. heading north on Stoney Trail will be rerouted north on 100 Street S.E. then west on to TransCanada/Highway 1. The secondary detour for this route will be north on 68 Street S.E. then east on TransCanada/Highway 1.
- Eastbound traffic on 17 Avenue S.E. heading north on Stoney Trail will use the new east to northbound ramp at the brand new 17 Avenue S.E. interchange.
- Northbound traffic on 84 Street south of Peigan Trail can head north on Stoney Trail via westbound Peigan Trail. Access to westbound Peigan Trail is also open from southbound Stoney Trail.
- On August 14 new ramps will open for southbound Stoney Trail traffic heading east or west on 17 Ave S.E., and westbound 17 Avenue S.E. traffic heading north on Stoney Trail. The existing detour ramp for eastbound 17 Avenue traffic heading north on Stoney Trail will remain open.
At that time Stoney Trail south of 17 Avenue and all Peigan Trail ramps accessing Stoney Trail will be closed until the new southeast Calgary ring road officially opens in the fall.
Motorists should use caution in this area and obey all signs, message boards, and flag people. Fines double in construction zones when workers are present.
Centre Street South between 5 Avenue and 6 Avenue S.E. will be closed beginning at 7 a.m., Saturday, August 3 until 8 p.m., Sunday, August 4, for utility work. During this closure there will be restricted access for transit only.
1 Street S.E. between 5 Avenue and 6 Avenue will be reduced to one southbound lane beginning at 8 a.m., Saturday, August 3 until 8 p.m., Sunday, August 4, for construction.
Macleod Trail South between 25 Avenue S.E. to north of 25 Avenue S.E. will have a northbound left lane closure daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Saturday, August 3, with speed restrictions of 50 km/h for construction.
Macleod Trail South between 25 Avenue S.E. to north of 25 Avenue S.E. will have a northbound left lane closure daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily, from Wednesday, August 7, to Friday, August 9, with speed restrictions of 50 km/h for construction.
52 Street between 114 Avenue and extending to 130 Avenue S.E. will have alternating lane closures with speed restrictions of 50 km/h daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both Tuesday, August 6 and Wednesday, August 7 for construction.
Northwest
10 Street N.W. between 5 Avenue N.W. and 13 Avenue N.W. will be reduced to one lane in both directions from 7 a.m. Saturday, August 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, August 4 for an emergency utility repair.
John Laurie Boulevard between Shaganappi Trail and 19 Street N.W. will be reduced to one eastbound lane beginning at 9 p.m., Friday, August 2 to 5 a.m., Saturday, August 3 and again from 3 p.m., Saturday, August 3 to 5 a.m., Sunday, August 4, for construction.
Westbound 16 Avenue N.W. between 2 Street N.W. and 14 Street N.W. will have one left lane closed daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Monday, July 29 until Friday, August 2 for landscaping.
Northeast
Barlow Trail between Airport Trail and 100 Avenue N.E. will be closed in both directions beginning at midnight, Tuesday, August 6, and ending at 4 a.m., Tuesday, August 6 for a utilities upgrade related to Airport Tunnel work.
53 Street N.W. between 53 Avenue, extending to Varsity Estates Drive N.W. is currently reduced to a single lane and controlled by flag personnel with speed reductions to 50 km/h but will reopen for the long weekend, beginning Friday, August 3. Work and closures will resume at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, August 6.
McKnight Boulevard at Edmonton Trail N.E. will have various lane closures beginning at 7 p.m., Friday, August 2 until midnight, Saturday, August 3, for bridge construction.
Southwest
Shawnessy Boulevard S.W. between Millrise Boulevard and Millrise Drive S.W. will have various lane closures from Tuesday, August 6 to Saturday, August 10 for road paving – weather permitting.
Two westbound, right lanes on Bow Trail at 26 Street S.W. will be closed, reducing westbound Bow Trail to one lane from at 7 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, August 3 for construction.
Northbound Sirocco Drive S.W. will have a left lane closure, reducing northbound Sirocco Drive to one lane from 7 a.m., Saturday, August 3, to 5 p.m., Sunday, August 4 for construction.
Northbound Sirocco Drive S.W. to westbound 17 Avenue S.W. will have the left turn lane closed with traffic detoured to 45 Street S.W., from 7 a.m., Saturday, August 3, to 5 p.m., Sunday, August 4, for road maintenance.
Westbound 17 Avenue S.W. at Sirocco Drive S.W. will be reduced to one lane from 7 a.m., Saturday, August 3, to 5 p.m., Sunday, August 4, for road maintenance.
Both eastbound and westbound 17 Avenue at 69 Street S.E. will be reduced to one lane from 7 a.m., Saturday, August 3, to 5 p.m., Sunday, August 4, for road maintenance.
