Calgary road closures and lane restrictions - June 6, 2014

Northeast

NEW: 2 right lanes are closed on southbound 36 Street N.E., south of 20 Avenue N.E. for emergency utility work. This closure is expected to be in place until 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 8.

There will be limited access to and from 12 Street N.E. and Aviation Boulevard N.E. at McKnight Boulevard N.E. from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 7 due to pavement repair. We recommend taking an alternate route if possible.

17 Avenue N.E. and 18 Avenue N.E. will be closed at Edmonton Trail from 5 a.m. on Friday, May 16 until June due to the Edmonton Trail road reconstruction project.

Westbound McKnight Boulevard N.E. will be reduced to one lane at 4 Street N.W. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily from Friday, June 6 to Friday, June 13 due to construction.

Northwest

NEW: 20 Avenue N.W. will be closed between 1 Street N.W. and 2 Street N.W. from 6 a.m. on Saturday, June 2 to midnight on Sunday, June 8 due to road construction.

NEW: Northbound Nose Hill Drive N.W. will be reduced to one lane at Silver Spring Boulevard N.W. from 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 7 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 8 due to utility work.

NEW: There will be various EB lane closures on Memorial Drive N.W. between Kensington Road and 10 Street N.W. on Saturday, June 7 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for isolated base repairs.

NEW: 16 Avenue N.W./Bow River Bridge will be reduced to one lane at 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 7  for paving.

10 Street N.W. will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Memorial Drive N.W. and 4 Avenue S.W. from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly from Wednesday, June 4 to Sunday, June 8 due to bridge paving.

Southeast

NEW: The lower deck of the Centre Street bridge will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3: 30 p.m. on Sunday, June 8 for maintenance.

NEW:  The left lanes will be closed on northbound and southbound Blackfoot Trail at the bridge over Glenmore Trail from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily on Monday, June 9 and Tuesday, June 10 to allow for work related to the Blackfoot Trail Bridge re-hab project.

NEW: 18 Avenue S.E. will be closed between Centre Street and 1 Street S.E. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 8 due to the building move of McHugh House.

NEW: Centre Street will be closed between 15 Avenue S.E. and 18 Avenue S.E. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 8 due to the building move of McHugh House.

NEW: Southbound 11 Street S.E. will be reduced to one lane at 18 Avenue S.E. from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday, June 9 due to building construction.

NEW: Southbound Flint Road S.E. will be reduced to one lane north of Heritage Drive S.E. from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 7 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, June 9 and Tuesday, June 10 due utility work.

NEW: There will be various lane closures on 9 Avenue S.E. between 3 Street S.E. and 6 Street S.E. starting Monday, June 9 until the end of August. There will also be various closures on 6 Street S.E. between 9 Avenue and 6 Avenue S.E. for East Village construction. This work will stop during Stampede (July 4-13).

Northbound Macleod Trail will be reduced to one lane between Highway 22X and Sun Valley Boulevard S.E. from 10 p.m. on Friday, June 6 to 5 a.m. on Saturday, June 8 due to utility work. At this time speed will be reduced to 50 km/h.

There will be various lane closures on 9 Street S.E. at 32 Avenue S.E. from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily from Monday, June 2 to Monday, June 16 due to utility work.

There will be construction on Sunmills Drive S.E. between Sun Valley Boulevard S.E. and Suncastle Drive S.E. starting mid June due to traffic calming measures being implemented in the area. Traffic should be minimally impacted but motorists are asked to be aware and cautious around crews working.

There will be various lane closures on 9 Street S.E. at 32 Avenue S.E. from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily from Tuesday, May 27 to Tuesday, June 10 due to utility work. 

Southwest

NEW: Centre Street will be closed at 5 Avenue S.W. from 8 p.m. on Friday, June 6 to 5 a.m. on Monday, June 9 due to utility work.

NEW: 2 Street S.W. will be closed between 2 Avenue and 3 Avenue S.W. on Saturday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily for plus 15 construction.

NEW: 2 Street S.W. will be reduced to one lane between 4 Avenue S.W. and 5 Avenue S.W. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily from Friday, June 6 to Friday, June 13 due to sidewalk repair.

NEW: There will be various lane closures on Glenmore Trail between 69 Street S.W.  and 101 Street S.W. on Friday, June 6 to Sunday, June 8 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for spray patching.

NEW:  There will be various lane closures on Bow Trail between 33 Street S.W. and Sarcee Trail on Friday, June 6 and Saturday, June 7.

NEW: There will be various lane closures on northbound Blackfoot Trail on the bridge over Glenmore Trail from 8 p.m. on Friday, June 6 to 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 8 to allow for work related to the Blackfoot Trail Bridge rehabilitation project. At this time the speed will be reduced to 30 km/h. Motorists should expect delays and are advised to use alternate routes.

NEW: There will be various daily lane closures on 14 Street S.W. from 17 Avenue to 38 Avenue S.W. on Saturday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8 from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily for paving.

NEW: There will be various lane closures on Glenmore Trail at 14 Street S.W. from 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 8 until 5 a.m. on Monday, June 9 for bridge maintenance.

NEW: 9 Avenue S.W. will be reduced to two lanes at 14 Street S.W. on Saturday, June 7 at 7 a.m. until Monday, June 9 at 6 a.m. for bridge paving.

14 Street SW closures

  • All northbound lanes on 14 Street S.W. from 13 Avenue S.W. to 10 Avenue S.W. will be closed.
  • One southbound lane from 10 Avenue S.W. to 17 Avenue S.W. will be open beginning at 6 a.m. on Sunday, June 8 until the end of the month.
  • 11 Avenue S.W., 12 Avenue S.W. and 13 Avenue S.W. will be open.
  • Turning restrictions will be in place including no right turn access on 11 Avenue S.W. and no left turn access on 12 Avenue S.W. 
  • There will be various lane closures on 14 Street S.W. between 6 Avenue S.W. and 38 Avenue S.W. from 9:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily on weekdays and 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends. Work will be ongoing until late-summer. Visit Calgary.ca for more information.

5 Avenue S.W. will be reduced to two lanes between 5 Street S.W. and 6 Street S.W. from 9:30 a.m. until mid-July due to water main replacement.

5 Street S.W. will be reduced to three lanes between 5 Avenue S.W. and 6 Avenue S.W. from 9:30 a.m. until mid-July due to water main replacement.

 The right lane on eastbound Glenmore Trail will be closed over the Graves Bridge until Wednesday, June 18 due to emergency pathway repair. At this time the speed will be reduced to 60 km/h.

Eastbound 8 Avenue S.W. will be closed between 4 street S.W. and 5 Street S.W. from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 8 due to building construction. Parking will be restricted in the area at this time.

13 Avenue S.W. will be closed between 11 Street S.W. and 12 Street S.W. from 6 a.m. until Tuesday, June 10 for utility work.

There will be various lane closures on 14 Street S.W. between Heritage Drive and Anderson Road until August for operational improvements. More information is available on the website.

Two left lanes on 4 Avenue S.W. will be closed between 3 Street S.W. and 5 Street S.W. during peak hours. During off-peak hours (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) three left lanes will be closed. The first phase of this project is expected to last until mid-June.

2 Avenue S.W. is closed between 2 Street and 3 Street S.W. until Thursday, July 3 at 6 p.m.

The left lane and sidewalk are closed on 11 Avenue S.W. between 11 Street S.W. and 12 Street S.W. until Tuesday, September 30 due to building construction.

Special Events

Wheels for Wells – Saturday, June 7

  • The right lane on eastbound Highway 22X will be closed from 37 Street S.W. to 24 Street S.W. from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • There will be no parking on 24 Street S.W. at Glenmore Christian Academy just north of Bridle Ridge Heights from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • The Speed limit will be reduced to 50 km/h on Highway 22X between 6 Street S.W. and 53 Street S.W. from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

16 years and under bike route

Motorists are advised to watch for cyclists on the routes outlined below:

  • Bridleridge Heights S.W.
  •  24 Street S.W.
  • Everridge Drive S.W.
  • Fish Creek Boulevard S.W.
  • Everbrook Drive

Calgary Police will be on-site.

Run Bowness – Sunday, June 8

  • 79 Street N.W. will be closed between 43 Avenue N.W. and 48 Avenue N.W. from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution and watch for runners in the area, including the following roadways:

  • 48 Avenue N.W.
  • Bow Green Crescent N.W.
  • 69 Street N.W.
  • Bowness Road N.W.
  • 67 Street N.W.
  • Bow Crescent N.W.

Calgary Police Service will be present in the area.

Kronos Triathlon Club – Calgary Kids of Steel Triathlon – Sunday, June 8

  • The right lane on 24 Avenue N.W. will be closed between East Campus Gate N.W. and Collegiate Road N.W. from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
  • The right lane on eastbound 32 Avenue N.W. will be closed between Collegiate Boulevard N.W. and East Campus Drive N.W. from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution and watch for cyclists in the area. Calgary Police Service will be present in the area.
