Calgary road closures and lane restrictions - August 29, 2014

ALERT: Northbound 36 Street N.E. at 20 Avenue/Rundlehorn Drive N.E. is expected to re-open by end of day Sunday, August 31. The road is currently closed for emergency utility repairs caused by a water main break. City crews have been working diligently to repair the utility and re-open the road as quickly and safely as possible. Further details will be provided as repairs progress.

Northeast

NEW: Two right lanes will be closed on northbound Metis Trail between 80 Avenue N.E. and 64 Avenue N.E. on Saturday, August 30 from 7 a.m. to 12 noon for paving.

NEW: Edmonton Trail will be closed between 20 Avenue N.E. and 23 Avenue N.E. from 5 a.m. on Saturday, August 29 to 5 a.m. on Tuesday, August 2 for the Edmonton Trail road reconstruction project.

There will be various lane closures on Metis Trail N.E. between 64 Avenue N.E. and 96 Avenue N.E. from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily beginning Thursday, August 28 until Monday, September 15 for road paving.

There will be various lane closures on 32 Avenue N.E. between 12 Street N.E. to 36 Street N.E. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily until Tuesday, September 30  for road paving.

There will be various lane closures on 32 Avenue N.E. between Deerfoot Trail and 36 Street N.E. from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly until Tuesday, September 2 due to road paving.

There will be various lane closures on 36 Street N.E. between 16 Avenue N.E. and 32 Avenue N.E. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily until Tuesday, September 5 due to curb rehabilitation and paving.

The intersection of Skyview Ranch Road and 128 Avenue N.E. will be reduced to one lane in each direction until September 30 for utility work.

17 Avenue N.E. and 18 Avenue N.E. are closed at Edmonton Trail until late August due to the Edmonton Trail road reconstruction project.

Northwest

NEW: Eastbound 32 Avenue N.W. will be reduced to one lane between 37 Street N.W. and 39 Street N.W. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily beginning Tuesday, September 2 until Monday, September 8 due to utility work. On weekends this lane closure will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

There will be various lane closures on Shaganappi Trail between Bowness Road and 32 Avenue N.W. from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. night beginning Thursday, August 28 to Saturday, August 30 due to road testing.

12 Avenue N.W. will be closed between Centre Street and 1 Street N.W. from 9 a.m. on Friday, August 29 to 5 a.m. on Tuesday, September 2 due to utility work.

Northbound Crowchild Trail will be reduced to one lane at University Drive N.W. from 9p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly until Sunday, August 31 due to bridge deck repairs.

The right lanes on north and southbound Northland Drive N.W. will be closed throughout the summer due to bike lane improvements and road repaving.

Symons Valley Road is completely closed between 144 Avenue N.W. and Sage Meadow Circle. This closure is expected to last until December 2014. During this time, all heavy truck traffic will be detoured to Shaganappi Trail, and local traffic will be detoured via Sage Hill Drive to 144 Avenue N.W. Visit the webpage for  further information.

Southeast

NEW: There will be various lane closures on Cushing Bridge (17 Avenue S.E. between 19 Street S.E. and Deerfoot Trail) from 8 p.m. on Friday, August 29 to 7 a.m. on Saturday, August 30 due to road paving.

NEW: Southbound Blackfoot Trail at the bridge over Glenmore Trail will have the two right lane closed from 7 p.m. Friday, August 29 until 1 a.m. Saturday, August 30 to allow for bridge deck paving.

NEW: Blackfoot Trail between 58 Avenue S.E. and Glenmore Trail will have alternating lane closures from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily starting Saturday, August 30 until Monday, September 1 for paving.  The speed limit will be reduced to 50 km/h during this time. The Calgary Police Service will be on site to assist with traffic control and close ramps to Blackfoot Trail from Glenmore Trail as paving crews progress through intersections. The use of alternate routes is recommended as delays are expected.

94 Avenue S.E. will be closed between 52 Street S.E. and 60 Street S.E. until Friday, October 31 due to utility work. At the same time, 60 Street S.E. will be closed between 90 Avenue S.E. and 94 Avenue S.E. Business access will be maintained.

There will be various lane closures on Spiller Road S.E. south of 25 Avenue S.E. starting Tuesday, August 26 until Tuesday, October 21 due to utility work.

Westbound Glenmore Trail between 52 Street S.E. and Stoney Trail will be reduced to one lane with the speed limit reduced to 50 km/h from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly until Saturday, September 6 for paving.

4 Street S.E. will be closed between 9 Avenue S.E. and 8 Avenue S.E. until the end of January 2015.  This closure is needed to facilitate the construction of the +60 pedestrian bridge at the National Music Centre.

Westbound 130 Avenue S.E. will be closed between 52 Street S.E. and Copperpond Boulevard S.E. until Thursday, September 18 due to major utility work. The speed limit in the area will be reduced to 50 km/h. Residents are advised to use McIvor Boulevard S.E. to 52 Street S.E.

There are various lane closures on 9 Avenue S.E. between 3 Street S.E. and 6 Street S.E. until the end of August. There are also various closures on 6 Street S.E. between 9 Avenue and 6 Avenue S.E. for East Village construction.

Southwest

NEW: 11 Avenue S.W. will be closed between 1 Street S.W. and 2 Street S.W. from 7 a.m. on Saturday, August 30 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 31 due to building construction. Motorists are advised to use 10 Avenue S.W. as an alternate route.

NEW: Northbound 14 Street S.W. over the Mewata Bridge (between 9 Avenue S.W. and Memorial Drive N.W.) will be closed from 7 a.m. on Saturday, August 30 to 5 a.m. on Tuesday, September 2 due to bridge work. Two-way traffic will be allowed in the southbound lanes.

NEW: Northbound Elbow Drive will be closed between 4 Street S.W. and Britannia Drive S.W. from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 30 due to road paving. At this time two-way traffic will be allowed in the southbound lanes.

NEW: Southbound Elbow Drive will be closed between Britannia Drive S.W. and Sifton Boulevard S.W. from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, August 30 due to road paving. At this time two-way traffic will be allowed in the northbound lanes.

NEW: The ramp from westbound 6 Avenue onto Bow Trail will be closed from 9 p.m. on Saturday, August 30 to 3 a.m. on Sunday, August 31 due to bridge work.

NEW: Bow Trail will be reduced to one lane westbound and two lanes eastbound between 37 Street S.W. and 40 Street S.W. starting Tuesday, September 2 at 8 a.m. until Saturday, September 13 at 6 p.m. for utility relocation.

NEW: 1 Street S.W. will be closed between 5 Avenue S.W. and 6 Avenue S.W. from 7 p.m. on Friday, August 29 to 5 a.m. on Tuesday, August 2 due to building construction. At the same time 5 Avenue S.W. will be reduced to one lane between 2 Street S.W. and Centre Street.

NEW: The left lane on 4 Avenue S.W. will be closed between 2 Street S.W. and 1 Street S.W. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily beginning Tuesday, September 2 until Friday, September 12 due to building construction.

The two centre lanes will be closed on 5 Avenue S.W. between 2 Street S.W. and 1 Street S.W. until September 15 for utility work.

The left lane and sidewalk are closed on 11 Avenue S.W. between 11 Street S.W. and 12 Street S.W. until Tuesday, September 30 due to building construction.

Special Events

Pride Calgary Parade

The following road closures will be in effect on Sunday, August 31 to accommodate the parade route:

  • Macleod Trail will be closed between 9 Avenue S.E. and 6 Avenue S.E. from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • 8 Avenue will be closed between 1 Street S.E. and 11 Street S.W. from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • 11 Street S.W. will be closed between 8 Avenue S.W. and 9 Avenue S.W. from noon to 2 p.m.

Shaw Charity Classic Golf Tournament

The following roads will be closed from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily from Friday, August 29 to Sunday, August 31:

  • 14 Street S.W. from Anderson Road to the intersection of Canyon Meadows Drive and Elbow Drive.
  • Residential access will be maintained.
  • Spectators are advised to take public transit and/or the shuttle service, which will pickup at the Anderson CTrain station and at Mount Royal University.
  • Parking will be restricted in residential areas.
  • There is no public parking on the event site.
  • Visitors are advised to use public transit.
