Calgary road closures - September 19, 2014

ALERT: 14 Street N.W. is reduced to one lane in each direction between Northmount Drive N.W. and 24 Avenue N.W. until further notice due to a water main break. In addition speed is reduced to 30 km/h at this time. More information will be provided as it becomes available. Motorists are advised to follow detour signs.

Northeast

NEW: 12 Street N.E. over Memorial Drive will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly beginning Monday, September 22 until Saturday, September 27 due to bridge work.

NEW: 22 Avenue N.E. will be closed  between Centre Street and 1 Street N.E. from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, September 22 due to construction.

McKnight Boulevard will be reduced to one lane in each direction at 4 Street N.E. from 9 p.m. on Friday, September 19 to 5 a.m. on Monday, September 22 due to bridge work.

There will be various lane closures on Metis Trail between 64 Avenue N.E. and 96 Avenue N.E. from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily on weekdays, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily on weekends  starting Friday, September 12 to Friday, September 19 due to road paving.

There will be various lane closures on 32 Avenue N.E. between 12 Street N.E. to 36 Street N.E. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily until Tuesday, September 30 for road paving.

The intersection of Skyview Ranch Road and 128 Avenue N.E. will be reduced to one lane in each direction until September 30 for utility work.

17 Avenue N.E. and 18 Avenue N.E. are closed at Edmonton Trail until late August due to the Edmonton Trail road reconstruction project.

Northwest

NEW: Kensington Road will be closed between 16 Street N.W. and 18 Street N.W. from 8 a.m. on Saturday, September 20 to noon on Sunday, September 21 due to utility work.

NEW: 4 Street N.W. will be reduced to one lane in each direction between McKnight Boulevard and Blackthorn Road N.W. from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, September 20 due to road paving.

NEW: 4 Street N.W. will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Blackthorn Road N.W. and 64 Avenue N.W. from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, September 21 due to road paving.

40 Avenue N.W. will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Centre Street and Centre B Street from 9 a.m. on Friday, September 19 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 21 due to utility work.

Memorial Drive will be reduced to one lane in each direction at 19 Street N.W. from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, September 19 and 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 20 due to median repair.

19 Street N.W. will be closed between 12 Avenue N.W. and 14 Avenue N.W. from 7 a.m. on Tuesday, September 16 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30 due to utility work.

Symons Valley Road is completely closed between 144 Avenue N.W. and Sage Meadow Circle. This closure is expected to last until December 2014. During this time, all heavy truck traffic will be detoured to Shaganappi Trail, and local traffic will be detoured via Sage Hill Drive to 144 Avenue N.W. Visit the webpage for  further information.

Southeast

NEW: There will be various lane closures on Shepard Road at 85 Avenue S.E. from 7 a.m. on Saturday, September 20 to 3 p.m. on Monday, September 22 to due to utility work.. The use of alternate routes such as Barlow Trail is encouraged as delays are expected. Motorists are advised to watch for flagmen directing traffic.

NEW: Macleod Trail will be reduced to two lanes in each direction at 210 Avenue S.E. from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 21 due to traffic signal work.  Macleod Trail is already part of a construction zone with a reduced speed limit of 60 km/h that will remain in effect 24/7.

NEW: Westbound Heritage Drive will be reduced to one lane at Fairview Drive from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 21 due to utility work.

NEW: The sidewalk on the south side of 7 Avenue S.E. will be closed between 3 Street S.E. and 4 Street S.E. from Saturday, September 29 to Saturday, November 15 due to Central Library construction.

NEW: 9 Avenue S.E. will be reduced to one lane in each direction between 3 Street S.E. and 6 Street S.E. from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily on Saturday, September 20 and Sunday, September 21 due to road paving.

NEW: Riverfront Avenue will be closed between Macleod Trail and Confluence Way S.E. from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, September 20 due to road paving.

NEW:  The Langevin Bridge will be closed from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, September 20 due to road paving.

17 Avenue S.E. will be closed between Centre Street and 1 Street S.E. from 7 p.m. on Friday, September 19 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, September 21 due to utility work.

Southbound Highfield Road will be closed between 26 Avenue S.E. and Blackfoot Trail from 7 a.m. on Wednesday, September 17 to 6 p.m. on Monday, November 17 due to flood related slope reconstruction. Motorists are advised to access Blackfoot Trail from 26 Avenue S.E.

27 Street S.E. will be closed between 85 Avenue S.E. and 86 Avenue S.E. from Monday, September 15 to Monday, September 29 due to utility installation.

94 Avenue S.E. will be closed between 52 Street S.E. and 60 Street S.E. until Friday, October 31 due to utility work. At the same time, 60 Street S.E. will be closed between 90 Avenue S.E. and 94 Avenue S.E. Business access will be maintained.

There will be various lane closures on Spiller Road S.E. south of 25 Avenue S.E. starting Tuesday, August 26 until Tuesday, October 21 due to utility work.

4 Street S.E. will be closed between 9 Avenue S.E. and 8 Avenue S.E. until the end of January 2015.  This closure is needed to facilitate the construction of the +60 pedestrian bridge at the National Music Centre.

Southwest

NEW: 1 Street S.W. will be closed between 5 Avenue S.W. and 6 Avenue S.W. from 7 p.m. on Friday, September 19 to 5 a.m. on Monday, September 22 due to utility work.

NEW: 14 Street S.W. will be reduced to one lane in each direction between 6 Avenue S.W. and Memorial Drive (The Mewata Bridge) from 9 p.m. on Friday, September 19 to 5 a.m. on Monday, September 22 due to bridge work.

Eastbound Sifton Boulevard will be closed between 7 Street S.W. and 8 Street S.E. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily on Thursday, September 18, Friday, September 19 and Monday, September 22 due to construction work related to the Riverdale Avenue pedestrian bridge replacement.

Bow Trail will be reduced to one lane westbound and one lane eastbound between 37 Street S.W. and 40 Street S.W. starting Tuesday, September 2 at 8 a.m. until Saturday, September 20 at 6 p.m. for utility replacement.

The left lane and sidewalk are closed on 11 Avenue S.W. between 11 Street S.W. and 12 Street S.W. until Tuesday, September 30 due to building construction.

Special Events

Calgary Catholic School District Walk and Run – Saturday, September 20, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

  • The right lane on eastbound 50 Avenue S.W. will be closed between 20 Street S.W. and 14A Street S.W.
  • The right lane on northbound 19 Street S.W. will be closed between 50 Avenue S.W. and 58 Avenue S.W.
  • Parking will be restricted on 50 Avenue S.W> and 19 Street S.W.

Motorists are advised to watch for Calgary Police Service along the event route.

Mount Royal University Colour Run for the United Way – Saturday, September 20 from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

  • Westbound Richard Road will be closed between Richardson Road and Mount Royal Gate S.W.
  • Westbound Mont Royal Gate will be closed between Richard Road and Mount Royal Circle S.W.
  • The right lane on eastbound Richardson Way will be closed between Richardson Road S.W. and Richard Road S.W.

Motorists are advised to watch for Calgary Police Services along the event route.

Nuit Blanche – from 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 20 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 21

  • 8 Avenue S.E. will be closed between 1 Street S.E. and Centre Street.
  • The right lane on Macleod Trail will be closed between 7 Avenue S.E. and 9 Avenue S.E.

Ronald McDonald Rock the House Run – Sunday, September 21 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

  • 40 Avenue N.W. will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Varsity Drive N.W. and 49 Avenue N.W.
  • The right lane will be closed on southbound 53 Street N.W. from 40A Avenue N.W. to the north entrance of Market Mall.
  • Varsity Drive will be closed west of Shaganappi Trail. Motorists are advised to use 32 Avenue N.W. for access.
  • 40 Avenue N.W. will be closed west of Shaganappi Trail. Motorists are advised to use 32 Avenue N.W. for access.

Watch for runners and Calgary Police Service in the Varsity area and obey all traffic control devices.
