Calgary road closures - September 18, 2015

Northeast

NEW: The right lane of eastbound Beddington Trail N.E. is closed at Beddington Boulevard N.E.from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, September 18, and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 20. This lane will also be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Monday, September 22 to Friday, September 25. During this time, the left lane of northbound Beddington Boulevard N.E. is also closed at Beddigton Trail N.E. This closure continues daily during these hours until 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 26 and accommodates construction.

NEW: The left lane of northbound and southbound 36 Street N.E. are closed south of 8 Avenue N.E. between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 19. This closure accommodates utility work.

NEW: The right lane and adjacent sidewalk of westbound McKnight Boulevard N.E. is closed at Trelle Drive N.E. daily between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. beginning on Monday, September 21. This closure continues during these hours until Friday, September 25 and accommodates utility work.

NEW: Centre A Street N.E. is closed between 13 Avenue N.E. and 16 Avenue N.E. between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday, September 20. This closure accommodates utility work.

NEW: The right lane and adjacent sidewalk of southbound 36 Street N.E. at 24 Avenue N.E. is closed between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Monday, September 21. This closure accommodates construction.

McKnight Boulevard Widening and Reconstruction Project

  • NEW: The left lane of eastbound and westbound McKnight Boulevard N.E. is closed at 12 Street N.E. between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 19. The left lane of northbound 12 Street N.E. is also closed north of McKnight Boulevard N.E. during this time. This closure accommodates median removal.
  • NEW: Various closures at the intersection of McKnight Boulevard N.E. and Aviation Boulevard N.E. between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Sunday, September 20. This work accommodates median removal.
  • There will be no access from eastbound McKnight Boulevard N.E. to Aviation Road N.E., as well as no access from Aviation Road N.E. to eastbound McKnight Boulevard N.E. beginning on Thursday September 10. This closure continues through the end of the 2015 construction season.
  • The left lane of eastbound and westbound McKnight Boulevard N.E. is closed and the speed is reduced to 50 km/hr. between 12 Street N.E. and 19 Street N.E. daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning Friday, August 21. This closure continues until the end of September as part of the McKnight Boulevard widening project.

Southbound 36 Street N.E. is closed between 32 Avenue N.E. and 26 Avenue N.E. and the speed limit is reduced to 50 km/hr. daily between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. beginning Monday, August 24. During weekends, this closure will be extended between 6:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. This closure continues daily until 3 p.m. on Friday, September 25 and accommodates construction of a turn lane.

Eastbound and westbound Country Hills Boulevard N.E. has been temporarily realigned between 52 Street N.E. and 60 Street N.E. This alignment continues through 2015.

Northwest

NEW: 4 Street N.W. is closed between 32 Ave N.W. and 40 Ave N.W. between 4:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday, September 20. This closure accommodates paving.

NEW: 14 Street N.W. is reduced to one lane in each direction at 20 Ave N.W. on Saturday, September 19 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. This closure accommodates water utility work.

NEW: 10 Street N.W. is reduced to one lane in each direction at 2 Ave N.W. on Saturday, September 19 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. This closure accommodates utility work.

NEW: Kensington Road is reduced to one lane in each direction at 22 Street N.W. from 7 a.m. on Saturday, September 19 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, September 20.

Update: Eastbound and westbound John Laurie Boulevard N.W. at McKnight Boulevard N.W. are reduced to a single lane daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning Monday, September 14. This closure continues daily during these hours until 3 p.m. on Friday, September 25 and accommodates concrete work.

Northbound 14 Street N.W. at John Laurie Boulevard N.W. is reduced to a single lane daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning on Monday, September 14. During this closure the ramp from westbound John Laurie Boulevard N.W. to northbound 14 Street N.W. will be closed. This closure continues daily during these hours until the end of September and accommodates utility work.

Eastbound Beddington Trail N.W. will be reduced to a single lane at Hidden Valley Link N.W. between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily until the end of September. This closure accommodates sound barrier installation

The right lane of southbound 10 Street N.W. at 2 Avenue N.W. will be closed until the end of September. This closure accommodates construction

Crowchild Trail North will have one lane in each direction closed at 24 Avenue N.W. for signal work from Monday, August 17 daily between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. During this closure, the ramps to eastbound and westbound 24 Avenue N.W. will also be closed. This closure continues until Sunday, November 15 and accommodates intersection improvements. This closure accommodates work on Crowchild Trail traffic congestion reduction program.

83 Street N.W. will be closed between 33 Avenue N.W. and Bowfort Road N.W. until Spring 2016. There will be no access to Bowness Road N.W. from 16 Avenue N.W. during this closure; motorists are advised to use an alternate route.

Trans Canada Highway / Bowfort Road N.W. Interchange Project

  • A new detour at 16 Avenue N.W. and Bowfort Road N.W. opened on Wednesday, September 2. This detour is expected to last until late 2016, and accommodates the construction of the Trans Canada Highway / Bowfort Road N.W. Interchange project.
  • The left lane of westbound 16 Avenue N.W. will be closed at Bowfort Road N.W. between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily.

Southeast

NEW: Macleod Trail will have one lane in each direction between Park Road and 9 Avenue S.E. on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20 from 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

 

NEW: The right lane will be closed on northbound Macleod Trail north of 162 Avenue S.E. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, September 21 for work related to the Macleod Trail / 162 Avenue S.E. interchange. Macleod Trail is already part of a construction zone with a reduced speed limit of 60 km/h, that will remain in effect 24/7 for duration of construction.

 

NEW: Eastbound and westbound Glenmore Trail between 18 Street S.E. and Barlow Trail will have the speed limit reduced to 50 km/h starting at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 19 and continuing through the 2015 and 2016 construction season, with an estimated project completion in 2017.  This is required for work related to the Glenmore Trail / Ogden Road interchange project.  There will be various stages of construction which will have traffic pattern changes and numerous lane closures on both Glenmore Trail and Ogden Road S.E.  For further information on this project please go to Calgary.ca and search “Glenmore Ogden”.

NEW: The two right lanes of Macleod Trail S.E. are closed between 9 Avenue S.E. and 7 Avenue S.E. from 10 p.m. on Thursday, September 17 to 5 a.m. on Friday, September 18. This closure accommodates paving.

NEW: Various closures on Macleod Trail S.E. between 18 Avenue S.E. and 7 Avenue S.E. beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 18. This closure continues until 7 p.m. on Sunday, September 20 and accommodates paving work.

NEW: 9 Avenue S.E. is closed between 3 Street S.E. and 4 Street S.E. between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 19. During this time traffic will be detoured, and motorists are advised to expect delays in the area. This closure accommodates work on the National Music Centre.

NEW: 1 Street S.W. is closed between 10 Avenue S.W. and 9 Avenue S.W. between 5 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Sunday, September 20. This closure accommodates work on the 1 Street S.W. Underpass project.

NEW: The right lane of 17 Avenue S.E. is closed at 37 Street S.E. between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 19. This closure accommodates water services work.

NEW: The right lane of northbound 8 Street S.E. is closed between 9 Avenue S.E. and Macdonald Avenue S.E. beginning at 8 a.m. on Friday, September 18. This closure continues until 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 19 and accommodates water services work.

NEW: Southbound 52 Street S.E. between 68 Avenue and 72 Avenue S.E. will be reduced to a single lane of traffic from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, September 19, to allow for roadway repairs.

NEW: Barlow Trail is closed between 61 Avenue S.E. and 72 Avenue S.E. beginning at 6 a.m. on Saturday, September 19. Motorists are advised to use 30 Street S.E. and 40 Street S.W. as alternate routes, and to expect delays. This closures remains in place until 9 p.m. on Sunday, September 20 and accommodates paving.

NEW: 9 Avenue S.E. is closed between 13 Street and 14 Street S.E. beginning at 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 19. Traffic in the area will be detoured and motorists are advised to expect delays. This closure remains in place until 5 a.m. on Monday, September 21 and accommodates construction.

NEW: The right lane of westbound 194 Avenue S.E. is closed at Chapparal Boulevard S.E. beginning at 6 a.m. on Monday, September 21. During the closure, through traffic travelling westbound on 194 Avenue S.E. will be detoured through the left turn bay at 194 Avenue S.E. This closure remains in place until 10 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23 and accommodates water services work.

NEW: Various lane closures at Road A S.E. and 130 Avenue S.E. beginning at 12 a.m. on Wednesday, September 16. This closure remains in place until early December 2015 and accommodates traffic signal work.

The left lane will be closed and the speed limit reduced to 50 km/h on northbound and southbound Barlow Trail S.E. at Shepard Road S.E. daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, beginning Wednesday, September 9 until Wednesday, September 23, to allow for work related to the Glenmore Trail / Ogden Road interchange project.

 

Victoria Bridge rehabilitation project

  • The left lane will be closed on northbound Macleod Trail north of 25 Avenue S.E. across the Victoria bridge from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, September 17 and Friday, September 18.  The left lane closure will continue on Saturday, September 19 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. to allow for work related to Victoria Bridge re-hab project.
  • The northbound lanes on Macleod Trail, north of 25 Street S.E. have been temporarily realigned as part of the Victoria Bridge Rehabilitation Project. Please pay attention in this area.
  • The exit ramp allowing U-turns from southbound 1 Street S.E. to northbound Macleod Trail, north of 25 Avenue S.E. will be closed until late September.
  • The regional pathway link to the Macleod Trail bridge deck (Victoria Bridge) will also be closed. Pathway users will be directed to use the 1 Street S.E. link one block to the west.

Glenmore Trail Bridges Rehabilitation Project

  • Glenmore Trail east of Macleod Trail and west of Deerfoot Trail will have various lane closures until October. During this time the speed limit on Glenmore Trail will be reduced to 50 km/h between Macleod Trail and Deerfoot Trail for the duration of construction, expected to last until October.
  • The pedestrian underpass and sidewalk connection under Glenmore Trail east of Macleod Trail S.E. will be closed for work related to the Glenmore Trail Bridges projects. Pedestrians will be directed to use Macleod Trail to cross Glenmore Trail. The pedestrian underpass is anticipated to be closed until September.
  • Three bridges on Glenmore Trail east of Macleod Trail and west of Deerfoot Trail, including Glenmore Trail over 11 Street S.E., Glenmore Trail over Fairmount Drive and Glenmore Trail over the CP/LRT tracks, will have various lane closures until October. During construction, there will be various stages which will require traffic pattern changes on Glenmore Trail and numerous lane closures on both Glenmore Trail and Centre Street S / Fairmount Drive S.E. under Glenmore Trail S.E.

4 Street S.E. is closed at 9 Avenue S.E. beginning at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8. During the closure, there will be no access to 4 Street S.E. via 9 Avenue S.E. Motorists are advised to use 6 Avenue S.E. via 6 Street S.E. as a detour. This closure will continue until 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 2 and accommodates construction of the National Music Centre.

Various lanes of 94 Avenue S.E. between 52 Street S.E. and 68 Street S.E. will be closed until Wednesday Sept. 30 for new road construction.

The right lane of southbound 3 Street S.E. is closed between 6 Avenue S.E. and 9 Avenue S.E. from 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily until further notice. A two way traffic setup will be installed in the left northbound lane of 3 Street S.E. between 7 Avenue S.E. and 6 Avenue S.E. This closure accommodates the Municipal Building Flood Mitigation Project.

The two right lanes of 9 Avenue S.W. between 3 Street S.W. and 4 Street S.W. will be closed nightly between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. until further notice. This closure accommodates construction.

4 Street S.E. is reduced to one lane in each direction between 9 Avenue S.E. and 8 Avenue S.E. until Sept. 30. This closure is for construction of the +60 pedestrian bridge at the National Music Centre.

Southwest

NEW: The two left lanes of 6 Avenue S.W. are closed between 5 Street and 6 Street S.W. beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, September 18. This closure continues until 6 p.m. on Sunday, September 20 and accommodates water services work.

NEW: 17 Avenue S.W. is closed between 4 Street S.W. and 5 Street S.W. beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 25. Eastbound traffic will be detoured to 12 Avenue S.W. via 8 Street and westbound traffic will be detoured to 11 Avenue S.W. via 4 Street to bypass construction. Alternate routes are recommended as delays are expected. This closure accommodates deep service utility installation and remains in place until 5 a.m. on Monday, September 28.

NEW: 4 Avenue S.W. is closed for paving between 8 Street S.W. and 14 Street S.W. beginning at 10 p.m. on Friday, September 18. Traffic will be detoured to 14 Street S.W via 6 Avenue S.W. This closure continues until 5 a.m. on Monday, September 21.

NEW: The cycle track on 5 Street S.W. between 12 Avenue S.W. and 11 Avenue S.W. is closed between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20. During this time there will be a single lane closure on southbound 5 Street S.W. and a single lane closure on 12 Avenue S.W. to accommodate cycle track detours. This closure accommodates construction.

NEW: 8 Street S.W. is closed between 10 Avenue S.W. and 8 Avenue S.W. beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 18. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes and expect delays in the area. This closure continues until 5 a.m. on Monday, September 21 and accommodates construction.

Northbound 8 Street S.W. between 8 Avenue S.W. and 10 Avenue S.W. is closed between 9 p.m. and 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, September 17. This work accommodates preparations for deep utility work on the weekend.

The right lane will continue be closed and the speed limit reduced to 60 km/h daily and nightly on eastbound Glenmore Trail (HWY 8) west of Sarcee Trail S.W., until the end of September, to allow for urgent storm sewer repairs.  The lane closure will be removed daily between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. Monday to Friday, to reduce impact to the a.m. commuting traffic.

101 Street S.W. is closed between Lower Springbank Road S.W. and Highway 8 beginning at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, September 9. This closure continues until 7 p.m. on Friday, September 18 and accommodates construction.

The right lane of northbound 8 Street S.W. and adjacent sidewalk are closed between 8 Avenue S.W. and 10 Avenue S.W. until late September. This closure accommodates the 8 Street Underpass project. Pedestrians are advised to use the west sidewalk.

The cycle track on 12 Avenue S.E. will be detoured between 3 Street S.E. and Olympic Way S.E. until further notice to accommodate construction.

Southbound 1 Street S.W. will be reduced to one lane between 9 Avenue S.W. and 10 Avenue S.W. this summer to accommodate the 1 Street S.W. underpass enhancement project. At the same time, the sidewalk on southbound 1 Street S.W. will be closed. Pedestrians should use the sidewalk on the east side of 1 Street S.W. These closures will be in place until the work on the west side of the underpass is complete.

Crowchild/Flanders Ave Interchage

  • Update: The northbound exit ramps from Crowchild Trail S.W. to Flanders Avenue S.W. are currently close until late 2016. Motorists will be unable to access Flanders Avenue S.W. via northbound Crowchild Trail S.W. Motorists are advised to use 33 Avenue S.W. or 50 Avenue S.W. via Crowchild Trail as alternate routes.
  • Caen Avenue (from the Currie Business Park entrance to Quesnay Wood Drive) is closed to allow for the utility work necessary for the Interchange construction. This stretch of Caen Avenue will be closed until late 2016. A temporary off-ramp provides access into the Currie Business Park, from Crowchild Trail South to Battleford Avenue.
  • Construction work has begun on Richard Road and eastbound Flanders Avenue.Traffic on Richard Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction (north and sound bound).

Special Events

Calgary Catholic School District Walk and Run – Saturday, September 19, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

  • The right lane on eastbound 50 Avenue S.W. will be closed between 20 Street S.W. and 14A Street S.W.
  • The right lane on northbound 19 Street S.W. will be closed between 50 Avenue S.W. and 58 Avenue S.W.
  • Parking will be restricted on 50 Avenue S.W. and 19 Street S.W.
  • Motorists are advised to watch for Calgary Police Service along the event route.

 

Mount Royal University Colour Run for the United Way – Saturday, September 19 from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

  • The right lane on westbound Richard Road will be closed between Richardson Road and Mount Royal Gate S.W.
  • The right land on westbound Mount Royal Gate will be closed between Richard Road and Mount Royal Circle S.W.
  • The right lane on eastbound Richardson Way will be closed between Richardson Road S.W. and Richard Road S.W.
  • Motorists are advised to watch for Calgary Police Services along the event route.

 

Ronald McDonald Rock the House Run – Sunday, September 20 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

  • 40 Avenue NW will be closed between Shaganappi Trail NW and Varsity Road NW
  • The right lane will be closed on northbound 53 Street NW from North Varsity Drive NW to Varsity Estates Drive NW
  • The right lane will be closed on southbound 53 Street NW from 40 Ave NW to the north entrance of Market Mall
  • Varsity Drive will be closed west of Shaganappi Trail. Motorists are advised to use 32 Avenue N.W. for access.
  • 40 Avenue N.W. will be closed west of Shaganappi Trail. Motorists are advised to use 32 Avenue N.W. for access.

Watch for police and runners in the Varsity area and obey all traffic control measures.

Beakerhead – Beakernight Event – Saturday, September 19 at 6 a.m. to Sunday, September 20 at 4 a.m.

  • 10 Avenue SW will be closed between 14 St SW and 18 St SW
  • Two way traffic access to Telus Building on south side of 10th Ave SW west of 14 St SW
  • One lane access to emergency veterinary clinic on north side of 10 Ave SW east of 18 St SE
