Calgary road closures - September 10, 2014

The City of Calgary is experiencing a severe snow event that has impacted many City operations. To find more information about other City closures and service impacts, please see calgary.ca. Below are impacted road closures and restrictions.

Due to the weather traffic signals are out across the city. City crews are working with ENMAX to restore power to signals as soon as possible. When approaching a traffic signal that is out or flashing remember to treat it as a four-way stop. 

Northeast

There will be various lane closures on 36 Street N.E. between 16 Avenue N.E. and 39 Avenue N.E. from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to midnight until Sunday, September 14 due to road paving.

There will be various lane closures on Metis Trail N.E. between 64 Avenue N.E. and 96 Avenue N.E. from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily beginning Thursday, August 28 until Monday, September 15 for road paving.

There will be various lane closures on 32 Avenue N.E. between 12 Street N.E. to 36 Street N.E. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily until Tuesday, September 30 for road paving.

The intersection of Skyview Ranch Road and 128 Avenue N.E. will be reduced to one lane in each direction until September 30 for utility work.

17 Avenue N.E. and 18 Avenue N.E. are closed at Edmonton Trail until late August due to the Edmonton Trail road reconstruction project.

Northwest

NEW: There will be various lane closures on Crowchild Trail between University Drive and 16 Avenue N.W. from 9 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9 to 5 a.m. on Thursday, September 10 due to bridge work.

NEW: There will be various lane closures on Crowchild Trail between Memorial Drive and 33 Avenue N.W. from 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 11 to 3 a.m. on Friday, September 12 due to utility inspections.

11A Street N.W. will be closed between Kensington Road and Gladstone Road from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. beginning Tuesday, September 9 until Friday, September 12 due to utility work.

The right lanes on north and southbound Northland Drive N.W. will be closed throughout the summer due to bike lane improvements and road repaving.

Symons Valley Road is completely closed between 144 Avenue N.W. and Sage Meadow Circle. This closure is expected to last until December 2014. During this time, all heavy truck traffic will be detoured to Shaganappi Trail, and local traffic will be detoured via Sage Hill Drive to 144 Avenue N.W. Visit the webpage for  further information.

Southeast

NEW: 6 Avenue S.E. will be reduced to two lanes between Macleod Trail and 1 Street S.E. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily beginning Thursday, September 11 until Monday, September 15, excluding Saturday and Sunday,  due to building construction.

NEW: There will be various lane closures on Macleod Trail at Heritage Drive from 9 p.m. on Thursday, September 11 to 1 a.m. on Friday, September 12 to accommodate bridge testing. At this time speed will be reduced to 50 km/h.

Updated: Westbound 130 Avenue S.E. will be closed between 52 Street S.E. and Copperpond Boulevard S.E. until Thursday, September 18 due to major utility work. The speed limit in the area will be reduced to 50 km/h. Residents are advised to use McIvor Boulevard S.E. to 52 Street S.E.

94 Avenue S.E. will be closed between 52 Street S.E. and 60 Street S.E. until Friday, October 31 due to utility work. At the same time, 60 Street S.E. will be closed between 90 Avenue S.E. and 94 Avenue S.E. Business access will be maintained.

There will be various lane closures on Spiller Road S.E. south of 25 Avenue S.E. starting Tuesday, August 26 until Tuesday, October 21 due to utility work.

4 Street S.E. will be closed between 9 Avenue S.E. and 8 Avenue S.E. until the end of January 2015.  This closure is needed to facilitate the construction of the +60 pedestrian bridge at the National Music Centre.

Southwest

Bow Trail will be reduced to one lane westbound and one lane eastbound between 37 Street S.W. and 40 Street S.W. starting Tuesday, September 2 at 8 a.m. until Saturday, September 20 at 6 p.m. for utility relocation.

The left lane on 4 Avenue S.W. will be closed between 2 Street S.W. and 1 Street S.W. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily beginning Tuesday, September 2 until Friday, September 12 due to building construction.

The two centre lanes will be closed on 5 Avenue S.W. between 2 Street S.W. and 1 Street S.W. until September 15 for utility work.

The left lane and sidewalk are closed on 11 Avenue S.W. between 11 Street S.W. and 12 Street S.W. until Tuesday, September 30 due to building construction.

Special Events

Really, Really Long Table Dinner Event – 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Monday, September 15

  • 8 Avenue SW will be closed between Centre Street and 1 Street SW

Spruce Meadows “Masters” – from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, September 12, and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, September 13  and Sunday, September 14

  • Eastbound Spruce Meadows Trail/Highway 22X will be reduced one lane between Tournament Lane and Spruce Meadows Way S.W.
  • Spruce Meadows Way S.W. will be reduced to one lane southbound and two lanes northbound, just south of Highway 22X.
  • Speed will be reduced to 50 km/h during this time.

Inglewood Night Market – 1 p.m. on Friday, September 12 to 6 a.m. on Saturday, September 13

  • 10 Avenue S.E. will be closed between 9 Street S.E. and 11 Street S.E.
