Calgary road closures - May 5, 2015

Northeast

Northbound 36 Street N.E. is reduced to a single left lane between 24 Avenue N.E. and 25 Avenue N.E. beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, May 4. This closure continues until 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 24 and accommodates construction.

2 Street N.E. between 5 Avenue N.E. and 9 Avenue N.E. will have various lane closures beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29. These closures will continue until Monday, June 15 and accommodate utility upgrade work.

Northwest

NEW: The right lane of eastbound 32 Avenue N.W. east of Centre Street N will be closed beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6. This closure will remain in place until 3 p.m. on Friday, May 8 and accommodates utility work.

Country Hills Boulevard N.W. east of Rocky Ridge Road N.W. will be reduced to a single lane in each direction beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 4. This construction project continues until the end of June.

Southbound 10 Street N.W. at 2 Avenue N.W. is reduced to a single left lane. This closure remains in place until the end of May and accommodates new development construction.

Eastbound 16 Avenue N.W. will be reduced to one lane east of Sarcee Trail N.W. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily on weekdays until the end of May due to utility work.

Southeast

Confluence Way S.E. between 6 Avenue S.E. and Riverfront Avenue S.E. will be closed beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, May 4. This closure remains in place until 3:30 on Wednesday, May 13 and accommodates construction.

 

The existing westbound left lane closure and 60 km/h speed reduction will remain in place 24/7 until mid-May across the Graves Bridge over the Bow River on Glenmore Trail west of 18 Street S.E. Multiple westbound lane closures will be allowed during evenings and weekends. The eastbound right lane will be closed and the speed reduced to 60 km/h on the Graves Bridge, Beginning Monday, May 11 and remains in place 24/7 until mid-June. This is the continuation of the Water Services new water main installation, using bridge structure as above ground support to cross Bow River.

The right lane and adjacent sidewalk of westbound 9 Avenue S.E. at 4 Street S.E. is closed beginning at 9 a.m. on Thursday, April 30. This closure remains in place until 6 p.m. on Monday, May 25 and accommodates construction.

Various lane and sidewalk closures on 9 Avenue S.E. between 3 Street S.E. and 5 Street S.E. daily between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. beginning Wednesday, April 29. These closures will continue during these hours daily until Monday, May 25 and accommodate construction.

8 Avenue S.E. is closed at 5 Street S.E. beginning at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22. This closure will remain in place until 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 7 and will accommodate road construction.

94 Avenue S.E. between 52 Street S.E. and 60 Street S.E. will be closed beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, April 20. The closure will remain in place until 8.pm. on Friday, July 31 and accommodates new road construction.

4 Street S.E. is reduced to one lane in each direction between 9 Avenue S.E. and 8 Avenue S.E. until September 30. This closure is needed to facilitate the construction of the +60 pedestrian bridge at the National Music Centre.

Southwest

8 Street S.W. between 10 Avenue S.W. and 11 Avenue S.W. will be closed beginning at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5. This closure will continue until 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 10 and accommodates construction.

5 Street S.W. between 2 Avenue S.W. and 3 Avenue S.W. will be closed beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, May 4. This closure will continue until 7 p.m. on Monday, June 8 and accommodates +15 construction between Eau Claire Tower and Centennial Place.

12 Avenue S.W. between 32 Street S.W. and 33 Street S.W. will be closed beginning at 6 a.m. on Friday, May 1. This closure will continue until 6 p.m. on Friday, May 15 and accommodates sanitary line upgrades.

42 Avenue S.W. between 1A Street S.W. and Stanley Road S.W. will be closed beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, April 27. This closure remains in place until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6 and accommodates underground utility installation.

Alternating closures on 11 Street S.W. at 8 Avenue S.W. between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. beginning Friday, April 17. Alternating closures will continue on weekdays during these hours until Friday, May 8 and accommodate utility work.

Southbound 12 Street S.W. between 15 Avenue S.W. and 16 Avenue S.W. is completely closed to traffic beginning at 7 a.m. on Thursday, April 16. This closure will remain in place until 9 p.m. on Sunday, May 8 and accommodates Enmax utility work.

Southbound 1 Street S.W. will be reduced to one lane between 9 Avenue S.W. and 10 Avenue S.W. starting Sunday, January 25 to accommodate the 1 Street S.W. underpass enhancement project. At the same time the sidewalk on southbound 1 Street S.W. will be closed. Pedestrians should use the sidewalk on the east side of 1 Street S.W. These closures will be in place until the work on the west side of the underpass is complete.

Calgary Flames

17 Avenue S.W. may experience road closures between 2 Street S.E. and 14 Street S.W. contingent on pedestrian traffic swell following scheduled Calgary Flames’ game on Tuesday, May 5. Detour signage will be in place and motorists are advised to expect delays in the area.

Special Events

Scouts Canada Soap Box Derby

Lake Ontario Drive S.E. will be closed between Lake Crimson Drive S.E. and Lake Sylvan Drive S.E. from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 9.

Dashmesh Culture Centre – Annual Sikh Parade

From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 9 the route of the Dashmesh Culture Centre – Annual Sikh Parade will have the following lane reductions and road closures:

  • Martindale Boulevard N.E. will be closed between Martindale Gate N.E. and Falconridge Boulevard N.E.
  • Falconridge Boulevard N.E. will be reduced to two lanes on the east side of the road between Taradale Drive N.E. / Martindale Boulevard N.E. to 64 Avenue N.E.
  • 64 Avenue N.E. will be reduced to two lanes on the south side of the road between Falconridge Boulevard N.E. and Martindale Gate N.E.
  • Martindale Gate N.E. will be reduced to two lanes on the west side of the road between 64 Avenue N.E. and Martindale Boulevard N.E.

Sport Chek Annual Mother’s Day 5 km and 10 km Road Race

From 6 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Sunday, May 10 the route for the Sport Chek Annual Mother’s Day Run and Walk will be closed to motorists. The lane closures, which will accommodate runners and pedestrians along the route, are:

  • Macleod Trail will be reduced to two lanes for northbound traffic between Glenmore Trail and Mission Road.
  • Macleod Trail will be reduced to one lane for southbound traffic between Glenmore Trail and Mission Road.
  • Elbow Drive S.W. will be reduced to two lanes on the south side between 4 Street S.W. and Lansdowne Avenue S.W.
  • 4 Street S.W. will be closed between 42 Avenue S.W. and 58 Avenue S.W.
  • 58 Avenue S.W. will be closed between 5 Street S.W. and Macleod Trail.
  • Mission Road S.W. will be reduced to one lane, northbound only between 4 Street S.W. and Macleod Trail.

Motorists are advised that there will be a heavy police presence on site.
