Calgary road closures - May 28, 2014

Northeast

There will be various left lane closures on 16 Avenue N.E. between 5 Street N.E. and 14 Street N.E. nightly from 6 p.m. to midnight from Monday, May 26 to Thursday, May 29 due to boulevard maintenance.

Eastbound Memorial Drive is reduced to one lane at 4 Street N.E. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily until Saturday, May 31 due to construction.

Northwest

NEW: Westbound Memorial Drive will be reduced to one lane between 14 Street N.W. and Centre Street from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 29 due to boulevard maintenance.

NEW: 16 Avenue N.W. will be reduced to one lane in each direction over the Bow River from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 29 due to bridge testing.

NEW: Gladstone Road N.W. will be closed between 11A Street N.W. and 12 Street N.W. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 29 due to utility work.

NEW: There will be various left lane closures on eastbound Memorial Drive N.W. between 14 Street N.W. and Centre Street from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 29 due to boulevard maintenance.

Extended: Left turns will be restricted on northbound Nose Hill Drive N.W. at Crowfoot Road N.W. from 9 .m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 29 due to construction.

The right lane on southbound Banff Trail N.W. will be closed at 23 Avenue N.W. from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28 due to construction.

Edmonton Trail will be closed at 17 Avenue N.W. and 18 Avenue N.W. from 5 a.m. on Friday, May 16 until early June due to the Edmonton Trail road reconstruction project.

Southeast

NEW: Parking will be restricted on 6 Avenue S.E. between Centre Street and 1 Street S.E. from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. due to filming

There will be various lane closures on 9 Street S.E. at 32 Avenue S.E. from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily from Tuesday, May 27 to Tuesday, June 10 due to utility work. 

6 Street S.E. will be reduced to one lane between 6 Avenue S.E. and 9 Avenue S.E. from 9 a.m. on Friday, May 23 to Wednesday, May 28 due to construction.

The right lane will be closed on southbound 52 Street S.E. between 68 Avenue and 72 Avenue S.E from 7 a.m. on Sunday, April 27 to Sunday, June 1 due to utility work. The speed limit will be reduced to 50 km/h at this time. In addition, 68 Avenue S.E. will be closed west of 52 Street S.E. with traffic detoured to 64 Avenue and 72 Avenue S.E. The regional pathway on the west side of 52 Street S.E. will be closed and detoured to the east side of 52 Street S.E. Local business access will be maintained. Alternate routes such as Barlow Trail are recommended as delays are expected.

Southwest

NEW: The 7 Street S.W. cycle track is closed between 6 Avenue S.W. and 7 Avenue S.W. due to dangerous building conditions at 608 7 Street S.W. until further notice. Information on a cycle track detour will be provided as it becomes available.

NEW: 5 Street S.W. will be closed between 4 Avenue S.W. and 5 Avenue S.W. from 7 p.m. on Friday, May 30 to 5 a.m. on Monday, June 2 due to water main replacement work.

NEW:  Crowchild Trail will be reduced to one lane in each direction at 54 Avenue S.W. from 3 a.m. to 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 29 due to utility work. Crews will be on site to stop all northbound and southbound traffic as required, while overhead lines are removed across roadway. At this time the speed will be reduced to 50 km/h.

Parking will be restricted on westbound 15 Avenue S.W. between 1 Street S.W. and 2 Street S.W. from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28 due to filming.

There will be various lane closures on eastbound Bow Trail between Sarcee Trail and 37 Street S.W. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily on weekends from Wednesday, May 21 to Wednesday, June 4 due to construction. At this time the speed limit will be reduced to 50 km/h.

13 Avenue S.W. will be closed between 11 Street S.W. and 12 Street S.W. from 6 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10 due to utility work.

There will be various lane closures on 14 Street S.W. between 6 Avenue and 38 Avenue S.W. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily on weekdays, and 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends. Work will be ongoing until late-summer. Visit Calgary.ca for more information.

There will be various lane closures on 14 Street S.W. between Heritage Drive and Anderson Road from Monday, May 12 until August for operational improvements. More information is available on the website.

Two left lanes on 4 Avenue S.W. will be closed between 3 Street S.W. and 5 Street S.W. during peak hours. During off-peak hours (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) three left lanes will be closed. The first phase of this project is expected to last until the end of May.

2 Avenue S.W. is closed between 2 Street and 3 Street S.W. until July 3 at 6 p.m.

The left lane and sidewalk are closed on 11 Avenue S.W. between 11 Street S.W. and 12 Street S.W. until Tuesday, September 30 due to building construction.

Special Events

49th Annual Scotiabank Calgary Marathon 
Sunday, June 1 from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • Olympic Way will be closed from 14 Avenue S.E. to 19 Avenue S.E. (Also, Olympic Way from 4 Street S.E. to 12 Street S.E. will be closed for one hour between 7 a.m. to 8 a.m.)
  • 4 Street S.E. will be reduced to one lane from 8 Avenue S.E. to 14 Avenue S.E.
  • 11 Avenue will be reduced to two westbound lanes from Olympic Way to 14 Street S.W.
  • 17 Avenue S.W. will be reduced to two westbound lanes from 15 Street S.W. to 14 Street S.W.
  • 14 Street S.W. will be closed between 17 Avenue S.W. and 12 Avenue S.W.
  • Northbound 14 Street will be reduced to one lane between 12 Avenue S.W. and Kensington Road.
  • 12 Street will be closed between 9 Avenue S.E. and 2 Avenue N.E.
  • 1 Avenue N.E. will be reduced to one eastbound lane between 12 Street N.E. and 4 Street N.E.
  • 4 Street N.E. will be reduced to one lane on east side from 1 Avenue N.E. to Riverfront Avenue N.E.
  • 8 Avenue S.E. will be closed between 4 Street S.E. and 6 Street S.E.
  • Memorial Drive will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Centre Street and the Langevin Bridge (4 Street N.E.)
  • Memorial Drive will be completely closed between 10 Street N.W. and Crowchild Trail N.W.
  • Riverfront Avenue will be closed from 1 Street S.W. to 6 Street S.E.
  • Southbound Elbow Drive will be reduced to one right lane from 5 Street S.W. to 32 Avenue S.W.
  • At Flanders Avenue S.W. ramps both directions on Crowchild Trail S.W. will be closed.

Drive with caution and watch for runners in the Mount Royal, Bankview, and Garrison Woods areas:

  • Premier Way S.W., Council Way, and 30 Avenue S.W.
  • 38 Avenue S.W., between 13 Street S.W. and 15 Street S.W.
  • 14 A Street S.W., between 39 Avenue S.W. and 50 Avenue S.W.
  • 20 Street S.W. from just south of 58 Avenue S.W. to 44 Avenue S.W.
  • Richard Road S.W. from Flanders Avenue S.W. to west of Richardson Way S.W.
  • Richardson Way S.W. from Richard Road S.W. to Sarcee Road S.W.
  • Sarcee R S.W. from Richardson Way S.W. to 32 Avenue S.W.
  • 29 Street S.W. from 32 Avenue S.W. to 26 Avenue S.W.
  • 26 Avenue S.W. from 29 Street S.W. to 14A Street S.W.
