Calgary road closures - June 30, 2015

Northeast

NEW: 57 Avenue N.E. will be reduced to a single lane in each direction in the eastbound lanes at 9 Street N.E. beginning at 7 a.m. on Thursday, July 2. The westbound lane will be closed, and flagmen will be onsite directing traffic as this closure accommodates utility work. The closure continues until 7 p.m. on Monday, July 6.

The centre lanes of northbound and southbound 19 Street N.E. between 14 Avenue N.E. and 16 Avenue N.E. will be closed daily between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. beginning on Friday, June 26. This closure continues daily during these hours during weekdays, and between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekends, through to 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 4. The closure accommodates median work.

Eastbound Country Hills Boulevard N.E. is closed at Barlow Trail N.E.  beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, June 26. Traffic will be detoured around the closure via a temporary ramp. The left lane of northbound Barlow Trail N.E. at Country Hills Boulevard N.E. is also closed during this time. This closure accommodates intersection work.

The right lane of eastbound Country Hills Boulevard N.E. is closed east of Barlow Trail N.E. beginning at 9 p.m. on Sunday, June 28. This closure continues until 9 p.m. on Friday, July 3 and accommodates construction.

Northbound Falconridge Boulevard N.E. is reduced to a single right lane at Saddletowne Circle N.E. between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily beginning on Tuesday, June 23. The right lane of southbound Falconridge Boulevard N.E. at Saddletowne Circle N.E. is also closed. This closure continues daily during these hours until Friday, July 10 and accommodates construction.

Eastbound and westbound Country Hills Boulevard N.E. has been temporarily realigned between 52 Street N.E. and 60 Street N.E. This alignment continues through 2015.

Northbound right lane of 11 Street N.E. at 64 Avenue N.E. is closed daily between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. until Saturday, July 4. The closure is extended to 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on the weekend, but resumes normal hours during the weekdays. This closure accommodates curb rehabilitation.

Northwest

83 Street N.W. will be closed between 33 Avenue N.W. and Bowfort Road N.W. starting at 11 p.m. Sunday, June 28 until Spring 2016.

Trans Canada Highway / Bowfort Road N.W. Interchange Project

  • The left lane of westbound 16 Avenue N.W. is closed at Bowfort Road N.W. daily between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. This closure continues until the end of July and is related to the Trans Canada Highway / Bowfort Road Interchange Project.
  • The left lane of eastbound 16 Avenue N.W. is closed at Bowfort Road N.W. daily between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. This closure continues until the end of July and is related to the Trans Canada Highway / Bowfort Road Interchange Project.

The right lane of southbound 10 Street N.W. at 2 Avenue N.W. will be closed until the end of June. This closure accommodates construction.

Country Hills Boulevard N.W. east of Rocky Ridge Road N.W. will be reduced to a single lane in each direction beginning at 9 a.m. daily until the end of June for road construction.

Eastbound 16 Avenue N.W. will be reduced to one lane east of Sarcee Trail N.W. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily on weekdays until the end of June due to utility work.

Southeast

NEW: 50 Avenue S.E. between 23 Street S.E. and 25 Street S.E., plus the intersection of 50 Avenue S.E. at Barlow Trail S.E., will have various multiple lane closures from 8 p.m. Thursday, July 2 to 5 a.m. Friday, July 3 and from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. nightly on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4 for paving. The Calgary Police Service will be on site to assist with traffic control. Alternate routes such as Peigan Trail or 52 Street S.E. are recommended as delays are expected.

The left lane of 12 Avenue S.E. is closed to vehicle traffic between 1 Street S.E. and 3 Street S.E. between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30. Bike lane traffic will be detoured into the closed lane while utility work occurs in the existing bike lane.

Northbound and southbound Barlow Trail S.E., between 50 Avenue S.E. and 61 Avenue S.E., will have the speed limit reduced to 60 km/h until mid-July to allow for preparation of paving. There will be various stages of construction which will have lane closures during weekdays and full road closures on weekends.  Updates will be provided as work progresses.

Victoria Bridge rehabilitation project

  • NEW: Northbound Macleod Trail S.E. north of 25 Avenue S.E. across the Victoria bridge will be reduced to a single lane of traffic from 11 p.m. Monday, June 29 to 2 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, to allow for work related to Victoria Bridge re-hab project.
  • Work related to Victoria Bridge re-hab project continues. Alternate routes are recommended as major delays are expected. Macleod Trail S.E. has opened to the first stage Victoria Bridge detour with newly shifted lane marking alignments in the northbound lanes. For information on the Victoria Bridge re-hab project please go to Calgary.ca and search “Victoria Bridge”.
  • The exit ramp allowing U-turns from southbound 1 Street S.E. to northbound Macleod Trail, north of 25 Avenue S.E. will be closed beginning at 5 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19 until late September.
  • In addition, the regional pathway link to the Macleod Trail bridge deck (Victoria Bridge) will also be closed. Pathway users will be directed to use the 1 Street S.E. link one block to the west.

Glenmore Trail Bridges Rehabilitation Project

  • Eastbound and westbound Glenmore Trail S.E. west of Deerfoot Trail S.E. at the bridge over 11 Street S.E., will have the speed limit reduced to 50 km/h starting at 8 p.m. on Friday, June 5, and continuing through the 2015 construction season, for work related to the Glenmore Bridges re-hab projects. There will be various stages of construction which will have traffic pattern changes on Glenmore Trail and numerous lane closures on both Glenmore Trail and 11 Street S.E. under Glenmore Trail.  For further information please go to Calgary.ca and search “Glenmore Trail Bridges”.
  • Three bridges on Glenmore Trail east of Macleod Trail and west of Deerfoot Trail, including Glenmore Trail over 11 Street S.E., Glenmore Trail over Fairmount Drive and Glenmore Trail over the CP/LRT tracks, will have various road closures and the speed limit reduced to 50 km/h beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 29. This project will continue through the 2015 construction season, for work related to the Glenmore Bridges rehabilitation project.  During construction, there will be various stages which will require traffic pattern changes on Glenmore Trail and numerous lane closures on both Glenmore Trail and Centre Street S / Fairmount Drive S.E. under Glenmore Trail S.E. The two right lanes of 9 Avenue S.W. between 3 Street S.W. and 4 Street S.W. will be closed nightly between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. until further notice. This closure accommodates construction.94 Avenue S.E. between 52 Street S.E. and 60 Street S.E. will be closed until Friday, July 31 for new road construction.
  • Eastbound Glenmore Trail west of Deerfoot Trail at the 11 Street S.E bridge will have various single and multiple lanes closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly Monday, June 29 until Saturday, July 4 to allow for work related to the Glenmore Trail Bridges projects. The speed limit on Glenmore Trail will remain at 50 km/h for the duration of construction.
  • Westbound Glenmore Trail west of Deerfoot Trail at the 11 Street S.E bridge will have various single and multiple lanes closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly Monday, June 29 until Saturday, July 4 to allow for work related to the Glenmore Trail Bridges projects. The speed limit on Glenmore Trail will remain at 50 km/h for the duration of construction.
  • Westbound Glenmore Trail east of Macleod Trail at the Centre Street/Fairmount Drive bridge and the L.R.T. bridge will continue to have the two left lanes closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly Saturday, June 27 until Saturday, July 4 to allow for work related to the Glenmore Trail Bridges projects. The speed limit on Glenmore Trail will remain at 50 km/h for the duration of construction.
  • 11 Street S.E. under Glenmore Trail will continue with various single lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily Saturday, June 27 until Saturday, July 4 to allow for work under bridge.
  • Eastbound Glenmore Trail east of Macleod Trail at the Centre Street/Fairmount Drive bridge and the L.R.T. bridge will continue to have the two left lanes closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly Saturday, June 27 until Saturday, July 4 to allow for work related to the Glenmore Trail Bridges projects. The speed limit on Glenmore Trail will remain at 50 km/h for the duration of construction.

4 Street S.E. is reduced to one lane in each direction between 9 Avenue S.E. and 8 Avenue S.E. until September 30. This closure is for construction of the +60 pedestrian bridge at the National Music Centre.

Southwest

Update: Various lane closures on northbound and southbound Sarcee Trail S.W. between Bow Trail S.W. and Bowdale Crescent S.W. for nightly paving between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. beginning Monday, June 29. A single lane of traffic in each direction will always be maintained during this closure. The closure continues nightly during these hours until Friday, July 3.

37 Street S.W. at 5 Avenue S.W. will be closed for utility work from Monday, June 29 at 8 a.m. until Thursday, July 2 at 6 p.m.

The cycle track on 12 Avenue S.E. will be detoured between 3 Street S.E. and Olympic Way S.E. until further notice to accommodate construction.

Southbound 1 Street S.W. will be reduced to one lane between 9 Avenue S.W. and 10 Avenue S.W. this summer to accommodate the 1 Street S.W. underpass enhancement project. At the same time the sidewalk on southbound 1 Street S.W. will be closed. Pedestrians should use the sidewalk on the east side of 1 Street S.W. These closures will be in place until the work on the west side of the underpass is complete.

Special Events

Canada Dayyc 2015  - 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1

  • Parking will be restricted on Riverfront Avenue S.E. from 1 Street S.E. to Macleod Trail S.E. from 6 a.m. on Monday, June 29 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 2.

The following closures will be in effect from 6 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1 to 2 a.m. on Thursday, July 2:

  • Riverfront Avenue will be closed between 1 Street S.W. and the Langevin Bridge
  • 2 Avenue S.W. will be closed between 1 Street S.W. and Riverfront Avenue.
  • 3 Avenue S.E. will be closed between Centre Street and 1 Street S.E.
  • 1 Street S.E. from between Riverfront Avenue S.E. to 4 Avenue S.E.
  • Macleod Trail north of 4 Avenue S.E.
  • Lower deck of the Centre Street Bridge

The following closures will be in effect from 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1 to 2 a.m. on Thursday, July 2:

  • Samis Road N.E. from Centre Street N to 1 Street N.E.
  • Memorial Drive between 10 Street N.W. and Edmonton Trail (with the exception of one community access lane between 3 Street N.W. and 4 Street N.W.
  • Upper deck of Centre Street Bridge
  • Centre Street from 3 Avenue S to 8 Avenue N
  • Various streets in Crescent Heights will be restricted to resident only including: Crescent Road at 3 Street N.E., 1 Street N.W. at 9 Avenue, 2 Street N.E. at 8 Avenue, 6 Street N.E. at Edmonton Trail.
  • Parking will be restricted on the south side of 8 Avenue N.E. between Centre Street and Edmonton Trail.

Calgarians are encouraged to walk, bike or take transit to the downtown area on Canada Day. To further facilitate this:

  • A daytime shuttle will run between carious Canada Dayyc event sites in the downtown core, including Eau Claire, Olympic Plaza and Fort Calgary.
  • Free parking will be available in the east lot of North Hill Centre and shuttle buses will run between North Hill and McHugh Bluffs from 6 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

East Village Street FairWednesday, July 1 – 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • 8 Avenue S.E. is closed between 4 Street S.E. and 6 Street S.E.

Soundtown CalgaryWednesday, July 1 – 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

  • 8 Avenue S.W. between 2 Street S.W. and 3 Street S.W. is closed.

Calgary Stampede ParadeFriday, July 3 – 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, July 3 the following roadways will be closed for the 2015 Calgary Stampede Parade:

  • Westbound 6 Avenue from 3 Street S.E. to 10 Street S.W.
  • 10 Street S.W. from 6 Avenue S.W. to 8 Avenue S.W.
  • Eastbound 9 Avenue from 10 Street S.W. to 3 Street S.E.
  • The 5 Avenue S.W. lane reversal will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. only.

All roadways are expected to re-open at approximately 2 p.m.

Stampede Road RaceSunday, July 5 – 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.

  • 19 Street S.W. is closed between 50 Avenue S.W. and 58 Avenue S.W.
  • The right lane of eastbound 50 Avenue S.W. is closed between 16 Street S.W. and 19 Street S.W.
  • Watch for runners in the following locations:
    • 21 Street S.W. from 51 Avenue S.W. to 58 Avenue S.W.
    • Langriville Drive S.W. south of 58 Avenue S.W.
    • The right lane of northbound Crowchild Trail S.W. between 66 Avenue S.W. and the entrance of North Glenmore Park.

Spruce Meadows North American TournamentFriday, July 3 through Sunday, July 5 – 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily

  • Speed reduction to 70 km/hr. then to 50 km/hr. in effect on Spruce Meadows Trail from 6 Street S.W. / Sherriff King Street S.W. to 53 Street S.W.
