Calgary road closures - April 9, 2015

ALERT: 33 Avenue S.W. between 17 Street S.W. and 18 Street S.W. is closed due to underground utility emergency, beginning at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7. This closure will remain in place until further notice. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes.

ALERT: Southbound Haddon Road S.W. at Southland Drive S.W. is closed due to emergency water main break. A two-way traffic setup is in place in the northbound lanes. This closure is expected to remain in place until 6 p.m. on Friday, April 10.

Northeast

The left lane on 16 Avenue N.E. is closed between 4 Street N.E. and Edmonton Trail N.E. beginning at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7. This closure will remain in place until 3 p.m. on Friday, April 10 and accommodates utility work.

McDougall Road N.E. is closed between 7A Street N.E. and 8 Street N.E. beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8. This closure will remain in place until 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 12 and accommodates utility excavation work.

St. Georges Drive N.E. will be reduced to single lanes in each direction at 12 Street N.E. beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 1. The closure remains in place until 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15 and accommodates utility work.

The centre lane in all directions at Olympic Way S.E. and 11 Avenue S.E. are closed beginning 9 a.m. on Tuesday, March 16. The closure will remain in place until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15 and will accommodate utility work.

Northwest

Southbound 10 Street N.W. at 2 Avenue N.W. is reduced to a single left lane. This closure remains in place until the end of April and accommodates new development construction.

Eastbound 16 Avenue N.W. will be reduced to one lane east of Sarcee Trail N.W. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily on weekdays until the end of April due to utility work.

Southeast

Southbound Bow Bottom Trail S.E. between 137 Avenue S.E. and 146 Avenue S.E. will be reduced to a single lane beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, April 6. This closure remains in place until 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 12 and accommodates water service utility work.

3 Street S.E. between 7 Avenue S.E. and 9 Avenue S.E. will be reduced to single two-way traffic beginning at 9 a.m. on Sunday, April 5. This closure will remain in place until 6 p.m. on Friday, April 10 and accommodates utility work.

The southbound lanes of 3 Street S.E. at 6 Avenue S.E. will be closed between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays beginning Sunday, April 5. This closure will also affect the two-way traffic setup on 3 Avenue S.E. between 7 Avenue S.E. and 9 Avenue S.E., which will be designated as northbound only during this time. This closure will remain in place until Friday, April 10 and will accommodate the evening commute.

Westbound lane closures resume across the Graves Bridge on Glenmore Trail S.E. over the Bow River, west of 18 Street S.E. beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, March 30. A single westbound left lane closure and 60 km/hr speed reduction will be in place 24/7 and multiple westbound lane closures will occur during evenings and weekends. Eastbound lane closures will no longer be required. This work will continue throughout the month of April and accommodates water services utility work.

4 Street S.E. is reduced to one lane in each direction between 9 Avenue S.E. and 8 Avenue S.E. until September 30. This closure is needed to facilitate the construction of the +60 pedestrian bridge at the National Music Centre.

Southwest

NEW: 101 Street S.W. between Glenmore Trail S.W. and Old Banff Coach Road S.W. will be reduced to a single shared lane of traffic between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Friday, April 10. This closure will have speed limit reduced to 50 km/h and will be controlled in stages by flagman personnel. It accommodates Enmax service upgrades.

Southbound 1 Street S.W. will be reduced to one lane between 9 Avenue S.W. and 10 Avenue S.W. starting Sunday, January 25 to accommodate the 1 Street S.W. underpass enhancement project. At the same time the sidewalk on southbound 1 Street S.W. will be closed. Pedestrians should use the sidewalk on the east side of 1 Street S.W. These closures will be in place until the work on the west side of the underpass is complete.

Special Events

Calgary Highlanders 2015 St. Julien’s Parade – Saturday, April 11

Motorists should watch for Police escorting the Military parade from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the following areas:

  • Eastbound 8 Avenue will be impacted from 11 Street S.W. to Macleod Trail S.E. by a police escort of military parade.
  • Northbound Macleod Trail is closed from 6 Avenue S.E. to 9 Avenue S.E.
  • Westbound 8 Avenue will be impacted from 11 Street S.W. to Macleod Trail S.E. by a police escort of military parade.

Mount Royal University Sprint Triathlon – Sunday, April 12

Motorists are advised to watch for Police presence in the following areas:

  • The right lane on 33 Avenue S.W. will be closed between Sarcee Road and Crowchild Trail from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • The right lane on southbound Crowchild Trail will be closed between 33 Avenue S.W. and Mount Royal Gate from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Mortorists are advised to watch for cyclists on Sarcee Roads between Richardson Way and 33 Avenue S.W.
