Calgary road closures - April 28, 2015

ALERT: Eastbound 5 Avenue N.W. between 21 Street N.W. and 22 Street N.W. is closed due to emergency water main break. This closure will remain in place until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29.

ALERT: Various closures on Deerfoot Trail during evenings beginning Sunday, April 26. These closures will allow the province to perform street sweeping on Deerfoot Trail. Traffic will be detoured, use alternate routes and expect delays. For more information, see Provincial Closures below.

Northeast

NEW: The right lane of 1 Street N.E. at 8 Avenue N.E. will be closed beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29. This closure continues until 3 p.m. on Friday, May 1 and accommodates utility work.

NEW: Eastbound 26 Avenue N.E. is closed east of 52 Street N.E. between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29. A two-way traffic setup will be installed in the westbound lanes, as this work accommodates crane work.

NEW: 2 Street N.E. between 5 Avenue N.E. and 9 Avenue N.E. will have various lane closures beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29. These closures will continue until further notice and accommodate utility upgrade work.

Update: The two right lanes of eastbound 16 Avenue N.E. at 19 Street N.E. will be closed daily between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. the following day beginning Monday, April 27 at 9 p.m. This closure will continue until 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 2 and accommodates construction.

The right lane of southbound Edmonton Trail N.E. at 36 Avenue N.E. is closed between 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 27 and 5 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29. During this closure there will be no access between 36 Avenue N.E. and Edmonton Trail N.E. This closure accommodates construction.

Skyview Ranch Drive N.E. will be reduced to single lanes of alternating traffic between Skyview Ranch Manor N.E. and Skyview Ranch Crescent N.E. beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, April 27. This closure continues until 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29 and accommodates utility work.

The right lane of each direction of Airport Trail N.E. between Barlow Trail N.E. and 36 Street N.E. (in tunnel) will be closed daily between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. beginning on Thursday, April 23. This closure will continue daily during these hours until Tuesday, May 5 and accommodates utility work.

Northwest

Southbound 10 Street N.W. at 2 Avenue N.W. is reduced to a single left lane. This closure remains in place until the end of April and accommodates new development construction.

Eastbound 16 Avenue N.W. will be reduced to one lane east of Sarcee Trail N.W. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily on weekdays until the end of April due to utility work.

Southeast

NEW: Various lane and sidewalk closures on 9 Avenue S.E. between 3 Street S.E. and 5 Street S.E. daily between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. beginning Wednesday, April 29. These closures will continue during these hours daily until Monday, May 25 and accommodate construction.

NEW: Southbound Olympic Way S.E. between 9 Avenue S.E. and 11 Avenue S.E. will be reduced to a single left lane between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29 and Thursday, April 30. Additionally, the sidewalk on southbound Olympic Way S.E. will be completely closed until 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 30. This closure accommodates sidewalk rehabilitation.

NEW: Various lane closures at Olympic Way S.E. and 12 Avenue S.E. between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29. This closure accommodates paving.

12 Avenue S.E. at 4 Street S.E. is reduced to left two lanes between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily beginning on Monday, April 27. This closure will continue during these hours daily through Wednesday, April 29 and accommodates construction.

8 Avenue S.E. is closed at 5 Street S.E. beginning at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22. This closure will remain in place until 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 7 and will accommodate road construction.

94 Avenue S.E. between 52 Street S.E. and 60 Street S.E. will be closed beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, April 20. The closure will remain in place until 8.pm. on Friday, July 31 and accommodates new road construction.

Westbound lane closures resume across the Graves Bridge on Glenmore Trail S.E. over the Bow River, west of 18 Street S.E. beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, March 30. A single westbound left lane closure and 60 km/hr speed reduction will be in place 24/7 and multiple westbound lane closures will occur during evenings and weekends. Eastbound lane closures will no longer be required. This work will continue throughout the month of April and accommodates water services utility work.

4 Street S.E. is reduced to one lane in each direction between 9 Avenue S.E. and 8 Avenue S.E. until September 30. This closure is needed to facilitate the construction of the +60 pedestrian bridge at the National Music Centre.

Southwest

26 Street S.W. is closed between 16 Avenue S.W. and 17 Avenue S.W. beginning at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28. This closure will continue until 6 p.m. on Friday, May 1 and accommodates underground utility installation.

42 Avenue S.W. between 1A Street S.W. and Stanley Road S.W. will be closed beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, April 27. This closure remains in place until 6 p.m. on Friday, May 1 and accommodates underground utility installation.

Alternating closures on 11 Street S.W. at 8 Avenue S.W. between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. beginning Friday, April 17. Alternating closures will continue on weekdays during these hours until Friday, May 8 and accommodate utility work.

Southbound 12 Street S.W. between 15 Avenue S.W. and 16 Avenue S.W. is completely closed to traffic beginning at 7 a.m. on Thursday, April 16. This closure will remain in place until 9 p.m. on Sunday, May 8 and accommodates Enmax utility work.

Southbound 1 Street S.W. will be reduced to one lane between 9 Avenue S.W. and 10 Avenue S.W. starting Sunday, January 25 to accommodate the 1 Street S.W. underpass enhancement project. At the same time the sidewalk on southbound 1 Street S.W. will be closed. Pedestrians should use the sidewalk on the east side of 1 Street S.W. These closures will be in place until the work on the west side of the underpass is complete.

Provincial Closures

The following closures allow provincial crews to perform street sweeping on Deerfoot Trail between 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28 and 5 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29:

• Northbound Deerfoot Trail closed between Southland Drive S.E. and 17 Avenue S.E. All Deerfoot traffic will be detoured to allow provincial crews to complete this work.

Special Events

Safe Cycling Street Fair – Saturday, May 2 – 6 a.m. until 5 p.m.

• 10 Avenue S.W. will be closed between 2 Street S.W. and 4 Street S.W. between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. for this event.

Firefighter Stairs for Charity – Sunday, May 3 – 6 a.m. until 3 p.m.

• Parking along 5 Avenue S.E. between 1 Street S.E. and Centre Street S will be limited between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. due to a charity event hosted by the Calgary Fire Department.
