Assault Charges

The Calgary Police Service has charged two people following an assault in the city’s south earlier this month. Investigators continue to look for a third victim, who has yet to come forward.

On Wednesday, May 15, 2013, just before 11 p.m., two women were walking on the southbound platform at Shawnessy LRT station, when they passed a man and a woman standing with two other men on the platform. A verbal altercation took place and the two women crossed to the northbound platform.

The man and the woman followed the two women, confronted them, physically assaulted them, sprayed them with bearspray and stole a purse before fleeing the area.

After reviewing CCTV footage, investigators now believe a third victim, a woman standing on the northbound platform was also assaulted. Detectives would like to speak with this woman and are urging her to contact police.

Letoya Oranette POWDERFACE, 27, of Calgary, has been charged with one count of assault and released on a promise to appear.

Under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, a male charged with two counts of assault with a weapon, and theft under $5,000, cannot be named.
