Animal Abuse Investigation

The Calgary Police Service has concluded its investigation into a report of animal abuse in the community of Whitehorn.

Officers were called to the community around 4:30 p.m., on Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, by a dog owner who claimed he had discovered his husky cross several blocks from his home, bound and gagged. It was alleged the animal had been missing from a yard in the 0-100 block of Whitehaven Road N.E., since approximately 11:45 a.m., that same day.

The owner claimed the animal had its paws bound together and its muzzle bound shut.

Following a thorough criminal investigation, scene examination and multiple interviews with the alleged victim and others, the Service has determined there are significant and unexplained inconsistencies with the complaint.

The investigation into the allegation of animal abuse is therefore now closed, although detectives continue to look at several other aspects of the case, including the subsequent fundraising efforts.
