Alleged Child Abduction Attempt

The Calgary Police Service is currently investigating a report of an alleged attempted child abduction in the northeast.

At approximately 8:40 p.m., on Sunday, May 11, 2014, a 10-year-old girl was sitting at the front of her home in the 5700 block of 18 Avenue N.E., when she was allegedly approached by a man who tried to grab her arm. The girl told investigators the man stopped his black truck in front of her home and walked up to her, then attempted to abduct her. She screamed and the offender left the area.

The suspect is described as being Caucasian, between 30 and 40 years old, 5’5” to 5’8” tall, and approximately 180 to 200 pounds. He was bald and had a tattoo on his left shoulder. He was wearing a white V-neck T-shirt and blue jeans.

The vehicle is described as a black pick-up truck, which may have damage to its front passenger side.

Police continue to canvass the area looking for witnesses or anyone who may have information about this incident.

The Calgary Police Service encourages parents to talk to their children about ways to protect themselves. This includes walking in pairs, staying in busy, well-lit areas and if they are suspicious of someone, trust their instincts and flee the area, or scream to draw attention to themselves.
