50 Avenue S.W. and Fairmount Drive S.E. pavement rehabilitation begins June 10

Please be advised that City crews will begin pavement rehabilitation on 50 Avenue south from MacLeod Trail S.W. to Builders Road S.E. as well as on Fairmount Drive S.E. from Glenmore Trail to Flint Road S.E. on Monday, June 10.

 

Crews will first mill the road surface, then level manholes, repair concrete as necessary and complete the paving in mid-June. This work will take place in off-peak hours or in off-peak travel directions and is expected to last two weeks. When possible, crews will work into the evening in order to complete the job as quickly and efficiently. Paving work is weather dependent and could be delayed without notice.

 

Parking and lane restrictions will be in effect on multiple streets in and around the area during construction. Lane closures will be necessary for this work and drivers are advised to follow detour signs and should use caution when driving on milled roads or when near crews.

 

Up-to-date traffic restrictions and detours regarding this construction work will be available at Calgary.ca/trafficinfo. 

 

“No Parking” signs will be placed approximately 12 hours before parking restrictions begin. If possible, transit routes along these roads will maintain regular scheduled service during construction.

 

Regular maintenance and upgrading is an important part of improving the safety and extending the life-cycle of our roadways. When more extensive repair methods are required, pavement rehabilitation is carried out through pavement rehabilitation or the Surface Overlay Paving program.

Paving is prioritized based on specific guidelines for road conditions. Roads that experience high traffic volumes need proactive rehabilitation to maintain the safety of the road as well as to extend its service life. Performing preventative construction can avoid hazards like potholes, cracks and frost heaves and lessen the need for more invasive maintenance.
