Youth charged in homicide investigation

The Calgary Police Service has charged a youth in connection with a Homicide Unit investigation.

The 17-year-old male cannot be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, however, he is charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of an 18-year-old man early Sunday morning.

A second person, an 18-year-old man, is in custody and being interviewed by homicide investigators.

On Sunday, July 19, 2015, at approximately 1:30 a.m., officers responded to the 4000 block of 19 Street N.W., for reports of a man in medical distress.

The victim suffered injuries during an altercation at the residence and was transported to a local hospital where he died a short time later.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday. The victim's identity will be released once this is complete.
