Youth Charged in Connection with Violent Incident

The Calgary Police Service has charged a youth in connection with a violent attack in the community of Coventry Hills.

At approximately 4 p.m., on Friday, Feb. 13, 2015, a man in his 30s was walking his dog in the 0-100 block of Coverdale Place N.E., when a group of youths approached him and began to utter threats.

The victim attempted to walk away from the group, when a 17-year-old male pulled out a machete and attacked him. The victim was struck several times in the face, head, shoulder and back. His left ear was severed during the incident.

Hearing the man’s screams for help, several nearby homeowners ran to his aid and called 911. The youths ran from the area prior to police arrival.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries. He requires extensive reconstructive surgery.

On Saturday, March 14, 2015, investigators arrested and charged a 17 year old with aggravated assault, possession of a dangerous weapon, carrying a concealed weapon and two counts of breaching current conditions.

His name cannot be released under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
