Woman Charged with Obstruction

The Calgary Police Service has charged a local woman following an allegation of jury tampering in connection with a recent court case.

On Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, police were contacted by Alberta Justice after a member of a sitting jury alleged that she had been approached by a relative of the accused in the case. The juror, who reported the communication to the Justice, alleged she was offered money in exchange for a not-guilty vote.

The juror was removed from the jury following the accusation. A police investigation into the claim was launched by members of the Calgary Police Service Robbery Unit.

On Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, Robbery Unit detectives arrested Erica LEVIN, 69, of Calgary, and charged her with obstruction of justice.

LEVIN is next scheduled to appear in Calgary Provincial Court on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013.
