Woman Charged in Fatal Hit-and-Run Collision

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section has charged a woman in connection with a fatal collision yesterday.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, emergency crews responded to reports of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle in the 3100 block of 17 Avenue S.E.

When crews arrived, they discovered a 26-year-old man deceased on scene. The offending vehicle fled the area prior to police arriving.

The vehicle was later discovered a few blocks from the scene, however, the driver was not inside.

The vehicle was registered to an address in Chestermere, and with the assistance of the RCMP, a woman was taken into custody while returning to the home around 4:30 a.m. Alcohol is suspected as a factor in this collision.

Julia Marie MCMILLAN, 40, of Chestermere is charged with hit-and-run causing death. The investigation is continuing.
