UPDATE: Man Identified in Weapons Investigation

A man has been officially charged in relation to a weapons investigation, the details of which were released earlier today.

On Friday, Oct. 23, 2015, Husayn NATHOO, 24, of Calgary, was arrested and charged with:

  • Two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm,
  • Two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose,
  • Two counts of possession of a weapon obtained by crime, and
  • One count of possessing a firearm knowing serial number altered, defaced or removed.

NATHOO is also facing the following drug-related charges stemming from a related matter at the University of Calgary on Thursday, Sept. 3rd, 2015. In connection to this matter he has been charged with:

  • One count of possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking,
  • One count of possession of cocaine, and
  • One count of possession of the proceeds of crime.

NATHOO will next appear in court on Friday, Nov. 6, 2015.

Charges in Weapons Offences at U of C

The Calgary Police Service Guns and Gangs Unit has charged a former student following an investigation into the discovery of guns hidden at the University of Calgary

On Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015, electrical contractors working at the University of Calgary located a box containing two unloaded .45 calibre semi-automatic pistols in a false ceiling in the Earth Sciences building.  Campus Security and the Calgary Police Service were notified and commenced a seven-week investigation.

A person of interest was identified early in the investigation. The person of interest, and other individuals, were monitored throughout this investigation and it was determined that the risk to students and staff at the University of Calgary was minimal.

The person of interest, a 24-year-old man from Calgary, was arrested earlier today, Friday, Oct. 23, 2015, and is currently facing the following charges:

  • Two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm,
  • Two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose,
  • Two counts of possession of a weapon obtained by crime, and
  • One count of possessing a firearm knowing serial number altered, defaced or removed.

His name will be released once he has seen a Justice of the Peace and the charges have been confirmed.
