UPDATE #3 - Shooting Incident

Following an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the victim from a shooting incident that occurred on New Year’s Day has been identified.

At approximately 5 a.m., Thursday,  Jan. 1, 2015, police were called to a residence in the 1900 block of 36 Street S.W., for reports that shots were fired at a house party where more than 50 people were in attendance.

Six people received injuries ranging from minor to serious but stable.

A seventh victim was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition, where he succumbed to his injuries. He has been identified as Abdullahi AHMED, 26, of Calgary.

At this time this is not believed to be a randomly targeted residence, however, investigators are still working to determine the motive, and if any one person was specifically targeted. Both non-involved partygoers, and an innocent bystander who was driving past the residence at the time were struck.

It is believed the gunshots began within the residence and then travelled outside the residence as the offender(s) fled. There are no suspects, or descriptions of people or vehicles available at this time.

Investigators would like to thank the public who have come forward to assist in this investigation. However, police continue to request anyone who was at the party come forward to provide any information they may have.
