Update #2 - Shooting Incident

A victim from the shooting that occurred earlier this morning has succumbed to his injuries, making this the first homicide of 2015.

The identity of the victim will not be released until after the autopsy scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, Jan. 2, 2015.

UPDATE - Shooting Incident

The Calgary Police Service continues to investigate a shooting incident that occurred earlier this morning.

At approximately 5 a.m., Thursday,  Jan. 1, 2015, police were called to a residence in the 1900 block of 36 Street S.W. for reports that shots were fired at a house party where more than 50 people were in attendance.

Seven people have been treated for gunshot wounds, one of which, a man, remains in life-threatening condition. The other six victims, have injuries ranging from minor to serious but stable. There are both male and female victims, all ranging in age from early 20s to early 30s.

Investigators have spoken with a number of witnesses, however, it’s believed many more have yet to come forward. The witnesses who have been spoken with thus far have identified themselves, and others at the party, as members of African communities. Investigators are asking members of the communities who may have any information about the incident to contact police, their Diversity Resources Member, Crime Stoppers or the Homicide Tip Line. Anyone who may have been in the area at the time is also asked to contact police.
