Update – Hit and Run Injury Collision

Calgary police have laid charges in relation to the hit and run, injury collision that took place downtown early Saturday morning.

At approximately 3:30 a.m., on Saturday, March 16, 2013, a motor vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of 8 Street and 8 Avenue S.W., between a minivan and a car. Immediately following the collision, the van fled the scene with the car in pursuit. Upon stopping at a traffic light several blocks from the initial incident, the driver of the car left his vehicle and attempted to stop the driver of the van from leaving the area, by reaching into the driver’s side window of the vehicle. The driver of the van then accelerated away from the intersection with the driver of the car hanging out of the driver-side window of the minivan.

The driver of the van continued driving until his vehicle collided with a building just south of 6 Ave. S.W. The man who was hanging on to the vehicle was trapped between the van and the wall of the building. The man injured in this incident was transported to hospital in critical, life-threatening condition. The building was also damaged as a result of this incident.

Mourad FEHAM, 43, of Calgary has been charged with four counts of failing to comply with a probation order and one count each of:

impaired driving causing bodily harm
impaired driving over .08 causing bodily harm
hit and run – person
dangerous operation of a motorized vehicle causing bodily harm

FEHAM made his first appearance in court this morning.
