UPDATE - Serious Injury Collision in NW Calgary

At approximately 10:40 pm on Friday September 13, 2013, a critical injury collision occurred in the northbound lanes of the 1800 block of Crowchild Trail NW.

At that time, a 19 year old male pedestrian was eastbound, crossing Crowchild Trail in the 1800 block NW. The pedestrian narrowly missed being struck by a southbound vehicle. As the pedestrian continued into the northbound lanes, still traveling eastbound, an Acura MDX being operated by a 51 year old female driver, was traveling northbound in the right hand lane of Crowchild Trail NW. As the Acura entered the area, the pedestrian ran across the Acura’s path of travel without warning. The driver was unable to avoid the pedestrian and the collision occurred.

As a result of the collision, the pedestrian sustained critical head injuries and was transported to local hospital, where he remains in life-threatening condition. The driver of the Acura sustained no injuries. Vehicle speed is not considered to be a factor in the collision. Alcohol on behalf of the pedestrian is considered to be a factor. The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section is investigating.
