UPDATE - LIFE-THREATENING INJURY COLLISION
Update - Calgary Police Service can confirm the 82 year old female pedestrian has died as a result of her injuries sustained.
On Sunday, March 2, 2014, at approximately 10 AM, a pedestrian collision occurred at the intersection of Centre Street and 3rd Avenue S.E. that resulted in life-threatening injuries.
A 1997 Dodge Dakota, operated by a 40 year old male, was eastbound on 3rd Avenue at the Centre Street S.E. intersection. The Dodge commenced a left-hand turn onto northbound Centre Street. The Dodge struck an 82 year old female pedestrian crossing Centre Street westbound in the crosswalk from the northeast corner to the northwest corner. The pedestrian was thrown approximately 6.0 meters towards the north. The Dodge came to a controlled stop in the crosswalk on the north side of the intersection.
The pedestrian sustained critical life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Dodge was not injured.
The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section is investigating the incident. Neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors in the collision. Any witnesses to the accident or the events leading up to it are asked to contact the Traffic Section at 403-567-4000.
