Two suspicious incidents involving children

The Calgary Police Service is investigating two recent incidents involving children being spoken to or approached by strangers.

On Wednesday, March 27, 2013, a 12 year old boy was riding his bicycle near Tararidge Close and 64 Avenue N.E., when he was approached by a man in a clean, black car. The man allegedly asked the boy to get into the car.

The boy said no, and rode his bike away from the area, to his home.

The man was wearing baggy clothing, including a black hoodie, with the hood pulled over his face.

Police circulated throughout the area, but did not locate the vehicle or suspect.

Investigators are examining whether this might be related to another incident that was reported last week.

On Friday, March 22, 2013, at approximately 3:30 p.m., a 9 year old girl had left her school in the 900 block of Tuscany Drive N.W., and was waiting for her mother.

A man approached her, and is believed to have said he was her uncle and that she’d be safe with him. Not recognizing him, the girl ran to a nearby park. The man entered a dirty, black, four-door sedan, which was facing westbound on Tuscany Drive, and left the area.

A short time later, the girl was met by her mother, who called police.

The man was described as Caucasian, 6’ tall, wearing a black hoodie with the hood up and dark blue jeans. One of his lips was cracked with blood on it and he had a deep voice.

At this time, it is not known whether this is related to the incident in Taradale.

The Calgary Police Service always recommends that parents talk to their children about safety tips relating to strangers.

Never talk to strangers, take anything from strangers or go anywhere with a stranger.

Do not be fooled by tricks or phony conversation.

If a stranger tries to grab you, yell, scream and kick.

Never tell a stranger you are by yourself or that your parents or guardian are not home.

Always report suspicious activity to police.
