Two men charged in homicide investigation

Two men have been charged in connection with the death of an 18-year-old man following an assault that occurred over the weekend.

At approximately 2:45 a.m., on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, emergency crews were called to the 200 block of 10 Avenue S.W., for reports of a man needing medical assistance.

When crews arrived, they found the man suffering from critical, life-threatening injuries. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he died at around 10 a.m.

It is believed the victim was involved in two altercations prior to his death. Following the first incident, the victim and his associates were separated from the situation, but a short time later the groups re-engaged outside a downtown bar.

The second altercation involved at least two suspects who have now been arrested and charged, but detectives believe that others may have been involved in the assault.

Nathan Paul GERVAIS, 18, from Calgary, has been charged with first-degree murder. Franz Emir CABRERA, 19, from Calgary, has been charged with second-degree murder.

Both are scheduled to appear in court this morning, Monday, Nov. 25, 2013.

Although an autopsy is not scheduled to take place until Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, his family has identified the victim as Lukas STRASSER-HIRD. The autopsy will determine the cause of death.

Detectives would like to thank the media and public for their assistance with this investigation.
