The City is honouring 17 recipients at the 2013 Calgary Awards
On Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. The City of Calgary is presenting 17 awards to the recipients at the 2013 Calgary Awards in the Calgary Municipal Complex. Media are invited to attend the event to obtain interviews and/or photographs.
The Calgary Awards is The City’s citizen recognition program celebrating Calgarians and local organizations for their outstanding achievements and significant contributions to improve the quality of life in Calgary. Mayor Nenshi and Members of City Council will recognize the recipients at the ceremony.
The awards presentation will stream live online at Calgary.ca/calgaryawards. The presentation will also air on Shaw TV, Channel 10 beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The Community Achievement Awards – Recognizes outstanding contributions and achievements in community life.

- Grant MacEwan Lifetime Achievement – Dr. Barrie I. Strafford
- Arts – Dennis Garnhum
- Commerce – First Calgary Financial
- Community Advocate – Dr. Sandra M. Reilly
- Community Advocate Organization – NeighbourLink Calgary
- Education – Dr. Nicole Culos-Reed
- Education Honourable Mention – Don Hladiuk
- Heritage – Alida A. Visbach
- Youth – Stephen (Soohyun) Cho
The Environmental Achievement Awards - Recognizes environmental achievements in advanced technology, management, conservation, protection, enhancement, education, stewardship and promotion of the city’s environment.
- Blue Skies – ATB Investor Services
- Corporate – Husky Energy – Bat Conservation & Education Program
- Educational Institution – University of Calgary – Zero Waste Strategy
- Educational Institution Honourable Mention – McKenzie Lake School
- Individual – Court Rustemeyer

The Signature Award – Recognizes an outstanding individual who has brought significant recognition to Calgary.

The City of Calgary W.O. Mitchell Book Prize – Recognizes literary achievement by a Calgary author.
- “Almost a Great Escape: A Found Story” by Tyler Trafford, Goose Lane Editions
The Award for Accessibility – Recognizes buildings or facilities that exceed minimum requirements for accessibility for persons with disabilities.

In 1994, The City of Calgary established the Calgary Awards to celebrate and recognize outstanding achievements and contributions made by Calgarians. Each year, individuals, corporations, community groups, schools and organizations are nominated in five major award categories.
