Suspicious Death Victim Identified

During an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the victim of Friday’s suspicious death investigation has been identified.

Just after 3 a.m., Friday, Jan. 2, 2015, police were called to the 1400 block of 8 Street N.W. for a report of gunshots. Upon arrival, a man in his 20s was found deceased in the alley. 

An autopsy currently ongoing, today, Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, has identified the victim as Murat Osman OMAR, 23. Cause of death is yet to be determined.

Although the investigation continues, this is believed to have been a targeted attack. Detectives have identified a vehicle of interest and are seeking public assistance to locate and identify it. The vehicle is believed to be a 2000 to 2003, silver, Acura MDX. A CCTV image of the vehicle in question, as well as a clearer image of a vehicle of the same make, model and year, is available on The City of Calgary Newsroom.

No suspects have been identified at this time.

No new information is available in relation to the New Year’s Day shooting. The Service continues to ask people who were at the party, or who may have any information, to come forward.

Investigators still do not believe the homicides of Murat OMAR and Abdullahi AHMED are related, however, the investigation continues.
