Single vehicle Fatal Collision in 2400 Blk Crowchild Trail SW

On Friday, November 20, 2015, at approximately 4:50 PM, a single vehicle, fatal injury collision occurred in the 2400 block of Crowchild Trail SW.

A 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe, operated by a 32 year old male, was northbound on Crowchild Trail S.W. in the 2400 block when it lost control and left 80 metres of tire scuff marks as it rotated clockwise across four lanes of traffic from left to right. The Tahoe went off the road to the right and struck the concrete sound barrier wall. The front of the Tahoe broke through the wall, causing several sections of the wall to collapse.  The Tahoe came to rest on the grass boulevard on the east side of Crowchild Trail S.W.

The driver of the Tahoe sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. A 25 year old female passenger sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to the Foothills Medical Centre.

Several minutes prior to the collision; the Calgary Police Service was called to a domestic related call, involving the same vehicle and the male and female occupants. A witness indicated that the male had pulled the female out of the vehicle and onto the sidewalk in the 2600 block of 33 Avenue S.W. The male and female then got back into the vehicle, drove eastbound on 33 Avenue, turned northbound onto Crowchild Trail S.W. and subsequently collided into the sound barrier.

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section is investigating the incident. Speed appears to be factor in the collision.

Any witnesses to the accident or the events leading up to it are asked to contact the Traffic Section at 403-567-4000.
