Sex assault investigation

The Calgary Police Service is investigating a reported sexual assault against a woman in northwest Calgary.
 
At approximately 3 a.m. today, Saturday May 4, 2013, a 21-year-old woman was riding her bike in the 2000 block of 3 Avenue N.W. when she was followed by a small, light-coloured vehicle. When they reached the 2300 block, a man exited the vehicle and groped the woman.
 
The victim fought back, causing the man to flee.
 
The man is described as possibly of Middle Eastern descent, in his mid-20s, approximately 6’ tall with a thin to medium build and brown skin. He had short, black curly hair and stubble on his face. He was wearing a light, collared dress shirt, a dark jacket and dark jeans. He fled in the small, light-coloured vehicle.

Police are offering the following safety tips to all Calgarians to protect themselves:

Be aware of your surroundings. Exercise caution when out alone, to stay in busy, well-lit areas and to avoid dark, deserted places.

If you are suspicious of someone, trust your instincts. Scream or use a personal emergency alarm to attract attention.

Wait for transit or public transportation with other people in a well-lit area.
