Seeking public assistance to identify witness

The Calgary Police Service is seeking public assistance to locate a man who may have witnessed, or has information on a homicide that took place in early 2012.

On Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, 911 was called after a man was seen laying on the ground in front of a residence in the 2100 block of 16 Street S.W.

He was transported to hospital in serious, life-threatening condition.

On Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, he died in hospital.

The deceased was identified as Gatleak THOR METKURJOCK, 20, of Calgary. The cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma.

This is not believed to have been a random incident.

METKURJOCK had been at a party inside a residence across the street.

While investigators have spoken to some of the people in and around the house at the time of the incident, there are several witnesses who have not yet come forward.

Police are attempting to identify one particular witness who may have information. It is not believed at this time that he played a role in the incident.

The witness is described as black, approximately 18-25 years of age, with a medium build. He was wearing a patterned winter jacket and blue jeans. He is believed to go by the nickname “Lucky.”

Investigators are releasing photos of the possible witness, taken at a nearby business, in the hopes that he will come forward or someone may be able to identify him. These photos are posted on The City of Calgary Newsroom.
